I forget if it was this game or another Darius game, but when the barracuda ships with the crystal dome on their heads appear, I heard that if you destroy the dome without damaging the ship, then you'll take control of the enemy ship and it will fight along side you until it's destroyed.

thecowboy2 You are correct. If you concentrate your fire on the sphere it will detach from the ship and after you collect it the enemy ship will switch sides.

PS1 had the game too, but was relegated to Japan only. People claim the PS1 version is plagued by slowdown, but the playthroughs I have seen of that version don't seem to slow down to me.

I was very impressed when you beat King Fossil without losing and without bombs. Every playthrough I end up using way too many lives and black hole bombs...and I've beaten U.N. Squadron on Gamer with an arcade stick without using the F-200 Efreet! Granted, it wasn't a 1cc run...

They’re technically sprites too (or more specifically a sprite made by taking pictures of a 3D model, called prerendered graphics) and it’s to allow that fluid Z-axis motion that they accomplish.

Along with *Prickly Angler* (G and I), *Neon Light Illusion* (H and J), *Fatty Glutton* (K and O), and *Double Dealer* (L and N). And both *Crusty Hammer* and *Deadly Crescent* can be fought in THREE different stages! P, R, T for the former, and Q, S, U for the latter.

Enix being part of Square is even worse! Eidos was the best choice to be part of Square, so of course, idiot Square dumped them.

Recently bought it,new to darius,wish I hadn't bothered This game is mediocre and cheap,coming from games like axeley,gradius,parodius,salamander,r-type and layer section to this is just nonsense,the only thing not cheap in this game is the sound track It looks good till you actually play it and them realise you just hold down fire and dodge,spam the bosses with your mega weapon and move on .. BORING,zero strategy,cheap effects and backgrounds and half arsed levels,practically no level design to speak of 3/10

While Taito were a poor man's Konami, I find Gradius and especially Irem's R-Type to be the most overrated shoot'em ups ever! Thunder Force is the king of shoot'em ups.
