It is. I was just talking about it with a friend a few days ago, because I'm a guitarist, but a guitarist friend of mine learned that whole damn thing perfectly, start to finish, and I just thought, I would never have the patience to get that whole thing down. Epic. Doug is a great singer and has the Strat sound down cold but Berton's tone is the best of the best Les Paul and rock and roll, and his playing is insane. One badass guitarist.

Bass and guitar play in unison. What I find most interesting about the bass here is that the bass player appears to be using a thumbpick. . .don't think I've ever seen another bassist play that way! Makes me think bass isn't (wasn't) his primary instrument.

Iconic. The Knack recorded the original version in one take and it was written in 15 minutes. Unheard of today. Doug Fieger, lead singer, RIP.
@possumverde9 жыл бұрын
Evan Thompson The basic song maybe, but when it comes to the solo, I think that tale is bit of rock mythology...It's too well constructed to have been done completely "spur of the moment." I could see it being recorded in one take but it's arrangement is a bit too well tweaked to have been completely spontaneous. They'd probably been jamming on and off on the basic riff for awhile and only put it together as an actual song in the studio. Still it does make for a good story.
@ETandAssociates9 жыл бұрын

I've always loved this song, from the very day it was released in summer, 1978. I was at my work study job in college when it came on the radio and still recall the electrifying excitement I felt. You just knew: it was hot! One thing about the song I especially like is the guitar solo. While being very melodic and signatory, it features just about every stock-in-trade rock guitar lick ever played. You can learn a lot about rock guitar playing by just transcribing the guitar solo alone!

An absolute masterpiece of pop music. The hook is fantastic. The playing tight as can be. And the drummer is slamming! I've been a professional drummer for most of my life (over 45 years). To nail what he is doing would take a few weeks of two hours/day. I have found that the greater the musician, the more he/she appreciates great hits, however simply they may be. For all those disparaging this song, fine...You're free to hate what you want to hate. But I have no desire to ever meet you. For those that love it, welcome to living life and having a great time while we're here. "MY SHARONA!"

Mick Berry you are spot on about this drummer and the song itself, it's a classic rock tune I remember listening to while cruising town, getting high and generally living life! I agree this fellow on the kit is killing it, apparently his name is David Henderson, while I'm not familiar with his work, as a drummer in my previous life I recognize talent when I hear/see it, this was the heyday of great music, It sucks that music nowadays will never come close to this level of excellence, peace
