Just batch an instant pot of lentil soup would be my version. Skip hemp, because I eat tons of seeds for breakfast. And that's way to much cumin for one serving for my taste. Maybe a quarter teaspoon cumin and a teaspoon of tumeric, plus some black pepper. I would add some iodized salt, too. Probably use onions, celery, carrots and at the last minute, some beet greens. I do think the X factor for a lot of centenarians is their mental outlook. Bryan Johnson's regimen, interesting as it is, seems rather joyless, and the effect that might have on his youthfulnees/longevity can't be quantified.
@ariesmry10 ай бұрын
Exactly. this is what happens when you get overly clinical about aging... you miss out on the joie de vivre. Besides having a great diet and daily, functional movement, many centenarians also have a sense of purpose, a strong community, and a genuine appreciation of their world. There is a simplicity to their life. I have several family members on both sides of my family that lived close to or past 100 and there diet was what it was. Having peak physical health, whatever that means, was not the only factor.

@mickeydemas10 ай бұрын
The thing is. This routine and way of eating brings HIM joy. The problem is it’s not a lifestyle most of us want. Other centenarian cultures go dancing while encouraging physical activity, fresh food and tight family and community bonding. He’s focusing on himself which is no surprise because we, in America, are individualists. But centenarians exist primarily in Collectivist communities where there is a culture of focus on each other, the well being of the group.

So glad you made this!!! One thing bothered me about this recipe! Dr. Greger states that’s the sulforafane levels are greatly reduced when cooking cruciferous vegetables and advised sprinkling dry mustard on the cooked veg to restore it. Not sure if any of the compounds added to this recipe did that. And, I followed Bryan’s KZbin short of his recipe that said to add the raw garlic and ginger to the dressing that included the cumin, EVOO and vinegar. I made the recipe as directed in the KZbin short and it was tasty, with the addition of the dry mustard. But lots of effort for a daily lunch, as it’s advised to cut the vegetables at the time of cooking to maintain the antioxidant levels that deplete over time if cut in advance.

My digestion has improved significantly and not matter how boring or bland this may taste I just get through it no matter what because its just so amazing. The dark chocolate with vegetables is key to make sure you just keep shoving it back it causes me to keep eating it and there is no food on earth better than chocolate imo.

I think I would probably keep the veggie lentils in tact, but I'd be inclined to blend the ginger garlic lime vinegar olive oil in a dressing - it would be nicer.. Could you chop the vegetables and mushrooms down smaller and toss it around like more of a salad? I'd get bored eating this everyday - unless work was super busy and I had no time to think about food. I would probably have to use it as a base - then add either cheery tomatoes or maybe butternut pumpkin just to mix it up. And I couldnt NOT have sea salt on it. Just me. Which to be fair - on balance it would be miles better than my current daily big meal. :). I'll give it a go. for 7 days and see. yeah - try a month and see what happens.

I made an accompanying sauce to a fried polenta ball in school and it called for only one raw garlic micro planed clove, and I was like - no we can deff do two... omg it was actually inedible people were coughing left and right. Nearly all the young children who were at the event that tried it stared crying. Bahaha I'll never forget it. I'm ranting now, but ultimately I am still surprised that a full tbsp of cumin for a single serving wasn't completely inedible

But these vegetables should be organically grown, especially broccoli and cauliflower, because they are often treated with chemicals to make them grow big. The second thing is to focus on healthy, seasonal vegetables and fruits. This requires changing my daily habits so that I don't eat broccoli every day. The list of cruciferous vegetables is longer, so they can be replaced with other vegetables such as kale, kohlrabi or Chinese cabbage. I think it's worth diversifying the menu. One thing that is worth sticking to is things that provide low GI and even more so have a low glycemic load
@CandyGirl44Ай бұрын
I wouldn't boil the veggies - I normally only lightly steam or microwave them. Unless you are going to use it to make soup or something. And somewhere I would add some avo😂. But I would also use more seasoning - nutmeg for the cauliflower, lemon juice for the broccoli , a sh*t ton more of garlic, black pepper and veggie salt.

I'd dip the broccoli and cauliflower in this pureed for fun. I think it is not too bad if the meal is pureed / becomes soupy because if you do it every day and you want to make it more fun, you would just dip the pureed/spread with some veggies (like cucumber, carrot, bell pepper), bread, or crackers. You can switch cumin with something else. Try mixing different spices, variety of oils, specialty vinegar, or some condiments in the pureed / spread for fun. I won't be able to eat the whole bowl if I treat it as a dipping. I'd be already full after I dip a bunch for fun. lol

Like negates how the body receives vitamins, minerals, etc...? I've heard some food combos will do that, defeating the purpose of the "healthy" ingredients.
@Berkana10 ай бұрын
Bryan Johnson's recommendation makes a big mistake by boiling the broccoli. Broccoli's biggest benefit is sulforaphane, but sulforaphane is made when the cells are crushed and two chemicals, glucoraphanin and myrosinase react. But when you boil broccoli, the heat deactivates the myrosinase, so you miss out on the sulforaphane. To get the benefits of sulforaphane, you need to chew the broccoli raw, or blend it, or chop it up, let it react and rest, and then cook it. The sulforaphane itself is somewhat heat stable, but if you cook and then chew it, you miss out on the benefits of the sulforaphane.
@nobull65245 ай бұрын
Aren’t you supposed to steam it?
@Berkana5 ай бұрын
@@nobull6524 For tastiness, yes, steaming is better than boiling. For health, no. Steaming or not is not the issue; the raw cells need to be crushed for the sulforaphane reaction to occur.

Living longer is all some people strive for. It’s honestly “noble” in a way, some millionaire dude spending all this money to use the scientific method and find ways to extend our existence. My personal view is that eating veggies and staying active is what leads to a physically healthier life. I’m not vegan or vegetarian by any stretch but I recognize the importance both to myself and to the entire WORLD (look up how much fresh water goes into making ONE burger) ultimately is. It’s just the most sensible solution imo. Eat more plants people!!!

@sharonknorr110610 ай бұрын
So when you boil all that stuff, a lot of the nutrients are lost into the water, so unless you are going to use that water, you have already negated some of the benefits. Chopping up the broccoli and cauliflower and letting it sit for about 40 minutes before cooking it allows an enzyme to release the sulforaphane in those - cooking first destroys the enzyme, so again, you don't get the full benefit of those wonderful vegetables (you can season with ground mustard seeds at the end, however, to make up for that if you cook first.) Same thing with garlic - would be much more beneficial if minced up raw and allowed to sit rather than boiling. Anyways, I don't see this as being a game changer for those looking to maximize their nutrition and other benefits of a plant-based diet.
