The "super-loud" silence they did when walking forward will always be so incredibly impressive to me. The absolute mastery of empty space, the precision. Genius level stuff, honestly! Made me loose my breath the first time. Never knew silence could sound so clearly.

PTX is great at using silence as actual music in their arrangements! All groups have occasional Rests in their songs, but PTX adds body language & emotion to their "rests" to make them actual notes in their music! 💖

A side note here. For the next 9 years ( until the pandemic) they never missed a concert except one when venue forced them to cancel for weather When Kirsty broke her ankle she wheeled out on a scooter and preformed. Sick, well, whatever they preform. Yes they are crazy talented but they are also Hard working and respect their fans.

That's not quite true. They had to cancel one show just after Matt joined when Kirstie fell very ill very fast. She posted about it after that you can read on the internet, and a video on twitter. She started vomiting just after sound check and could barely stand so they had to get an ambulance to take her to the hospital. As it was all so last minute the fans were already at the venue and the rest of the band had to go out there and face them, Scott explaining what was going on (that is the video on twitter). There were some boos but most people were supportive, especially when they found out that she'd almost needed her stomach pumped.

My favorite episode. During the Sing Off Avi checked out the competition by being friendly to the other bands. Here he is using overtones to make friends with other groups. He did go back and tell the trio based on his research that they could actually win it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/joawhnilgJJ0l7s Avi came into the Sing Off having won several acapella competitions. Including one with Fermata Nowhere for Rythmn Section at the International Championship of Collegiate Acapella (ICCA) the name changed to award it to him from Vocal Percussionist. It has been awarded only one other time to a vocal bass in 2017.

Back in July of 2015, when I first heard PTX (basically when I first discovered KZbin), I was so stunned by their "Carol of the Bells" that I listened to/watched it AT LEAST 20 times before searching for something else. Somehow the next thing I stumbled on was this performance right here--"Born to Be Wild." I so much wanted to watch the whole Sing-Off from the beginning, and to find every PTX song on KZbin, but I couldn't do it. I couldn't tear myself away. I togged between "Bells" and "Born" for a couple of weeks. Just couldn't bear to break away from either one of them. Every time I watched, I would pick up on something I hadn't noticed before. I salute you, SauceyDad. I would never be able to watch a PTX video for the first time and still talk coherently.

They were amazing from the very first time they stepped on the stage together. However, they all knew that they didn't know everything, and that helped them so much during the course of this competition, and afterward. The fact that, as you've said before, they were like sponges and soaked up every little bit of information they could and used it effectively, that, as much as pure talent, won them this show. Well, that and the work ethic instilled in each and every one of them by their parents. We'll talk more about that, though, in the last performance video. This one was one of THE ones everyone talks about. You have, I believe, two more before they absolutely blow your damn mind yet again. Maybe as many as three! Great video, man, as always. I would love to see those three judges reacting to Hallelujah, The Prayer, Come Along, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Can't Sleep Love at Popspring and Aha at Singapore Vista for the Mitch slap and for them to understand his extraordinary vocal skill and talent. Also, to Sound of Silence, The Prayer, Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Imagine to hear the PTX harmonies, bass section, KO and their signature Wall of Sound. BTW - you should watch the Pentacon sessions including Pentacon Parents when their parents did a live Q and A for fans. They seem to be well grounded with strong values.

This is a good one, but 10 and 12 are leagues above the rest! 12 is where Mitch is able to show off his unicorn-ness and they definitely recognized him for it! From what I’ve heard the producers of the show wanted to keep Mitch in the background, because he was “obviously” gay. So sad that that was ever an issue, for anyone, let alone for Mitch.

The whole issue of "straightening out" the final episode (and whitewashing the Trevor Project's primary objective) was ugly, but it is something that would not happen today, thankfully. Mitch was bullied for his voice in school and was still reluctant to expose his sexuality during this time. In the video on superfruit when they review some of these performances he constantly notes how low he was singing and calls himself masc. Mitch.
@hernameispekka_Rebecca2 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. both Scott and Mitch were out at the time but Scott kind of had to... half go back in the closet in his public persona for "marketability" at the time. And from what I've heard (don't know how true it is but knowing the times it sounds true) since Mitchs gayness is more "obvious" (eyeroll) he was kept in the background and in his lower register by the series producers. Which I'm inclined to belive because of the fact that they removed even any mention to lgbt when featuring the freaking Trevor project!

I'm not sure if he was reluctant for himself or because the show's producers didn't want him to show it. Big mistake holding him back and not letting him shine. Maybe their show could've gotten more viewers had word got out that there was an amazing tenor on it that we all needed to hear.
@margretrosenberg4202 жыл бұрын
The first Mitch-slap didn't come until Episode 12. The show was so intent on making Scott their only lead that they were actively discouraging letting anyone else lead, so it took a lot of planning for Pentatonix to find a way to administer the Mitch-slap. When it finally happens, however, it's spectacular.

I could only perceive it as instead of assuming the worst, while knowing the possible what if’s and continuing those doubts. With her doubts controlling the performance here she instead performed at an even higher level than ever before. She didn’t fold what creation she made while under pressure. Mitch refers to his performances from the Sing Off as masc (as in masculine) Mitch. The Mitch slap is coming though. You just have to wait for it.
