Scott is king of riffs… and Kirstie is queen of belting and Mitch is heavenly, Matt was what stole the show for me because we don’t get to hear him that often. And of course Kev is a master at everything. I love this song so much!

This is a masterpiece. All 5 shined in their own way. Combined they created something better than could be achieved individually. Kirstie has said this is her favorite Christmas song and you can profoundly feel their emotions. They are all in on this upgrade to their previous version. This one has the harmonies and the emotions and the arrangement is awesome. That slight pause in the middle of Kirstie’s last Divine created anticipation that resulted in almost perfection. I am 61 and this is the best version I have ever heard. My Mama liked this and Silent Night and when I hear Pentatonix sing I can almost imagine Christmas when I was a small child. Great reaction as always. I had hoped to see you react to this.
@beckyv336911 ай бұрын
Enjoy your reactions. I believe what sets Pentatonix apart and at a higher level than other accapella groups is that they feel the connection to the song. They are not afraid to put their heart on the line. We as the listener are pulled into the emotion of the song and it touches our soul. This is music at its truest form.
@PtxXtp11 ай бұрын
That’s one reason but I think there’s a lot more too and what makes them the most successful a cappella group of all time. Their arrangements are top tier especially when you hear the same songs done by more than one group. Also the other groups do a lot of harmonies in the background and while Ptx does that too, they also make themselves the full instrumentals in the background giving their songs more depth than just a lead and the harmonies. Another thing is the level of each singer in Ptx. Everyone of them could be a lead singer/performer and it works plus having a musical genius like Kevin in the group and the musical genius of the help of Ben Bram.
@HelenWheelsUtah11 ай бұрын
My favorite part about this song is how they effortlessly slide from singing lead to singing background, not only verse to verse but from line to line, it seems. Whoever's voice matched the needs of the moment was the one who had lead and everybody else supported them beautifully! The key change from Matt's solo to Mitch singing was almost sneaky. Many times the key change is obvious, but in this case it went so beautifully together that I had to ask myself if that was really a key change. Then, to lead us up to the very end was Kirstie with that absolutely incredible crescendo and beautifully belted high note (notes!) Then it ends the same way it began, with Scott's unaccompanied voice. This piece was pure _magic!_ This really needs to win their next Grammy.
@cosmicdrift83119 ай бұрын
Scott's ending wasn't quite unaccompanied. If you listen carefully, you'll hear Kirstie's last note reverberating in the background.

I've been following them since they won The Sing-Off in 2011 and I am constantly surprised that they continue to grow as musicians and vocalists after all this time! When will they plateau? This holiday season they did some really special things in their releases! Kevin does get to sing when they put together an arrangement with no beatboxing. The 5-part harmonies are wonderful! Kevin actually has the highest note in the group. He also plays cello and PTX occasionally brings it into an arrangement. If he's playing, you'll see it in the video. "Cello-boxing". To see more of Kevin's other skills I recommend two of their releases this holiday season from Vevo Live Studio! "Kiss From A Rose" and "Christmas Time is Here, Pure Imagination" (a mashup). They're live (squeeeee!) from the Vevo Live Studio and were released in the order I mentioned them in. I'm so looking forward to the rest of Pentatonix Week! Thank you!
@Gwennedd11 ай бұрын
Kevin sings more than most people realize. He's doing backing vocals anytime he's not actively beatboxing, but since the camera's not focused on him, we don't see him add his parts.
@Badger7772211 ай бұрын
I had the same reaction you did about Mitch's outfit - I thought he had on PJ bottoms and a robe, like he'd been woken up and headed for the studio without bothering to dress! I've since learned that his "robe" is a throwback to an old smoking jacket, which I can now see - but I was a little worried for a while! As for the vocals, for me this is the Matt and Kirstie show - not taking anything away from anyone else, but those two blew me away!
@jamesjudge389110 ай бұрын
When you see them at the Grammys, you'll see there's actually a sixth member of the group. Their arranger, Ben Bram, pulls together what he knows everyone can do and arranges the songs flawlessly. Obviously, the arrangement that gets recorded isn't the first thing that comes out of Ben's computer, but they build to this level of performance from there, and by reputation, extremely collaboratively.

A great reaction worthy of a great performance. Pentatonix should no longer be pigeonholed just as a world class acapella group. They deserve to be seen as the world class performance that they are. Thank you so much for this reaction and the analysis. Pure Pentatonix Perfection - yet again. They are masters of their craft. This is a fantastic rendition of this classic song. They were astounding, all five of them, individually and together. Scott with his pop vocals and yes he is the king of riffs; Matt so strong and defined; Mitch with his lower register, smooth as silk, always perfectly enunciating is the king of runs and vibratos, and then hitting and holding that note on "name"; Kirstie sharp and clear and that belting that went on and on; and Kevin driving that beat 100%. I see that you have done some PTX reactions already so I will try to find those. Welcome to the world of Pentaholics. I’m laughing at you not knowing Scott does riffs. His nickname is the king rifter (riffer) in the fandom. Some could say that sometimes he does too much when it comes to riffing.he tends to get carried away. Especially when singing live. There’s compilation videos of Scott’s riffs and runs. Mitch too. He’s just as good at riffing as Scott, he’s just way more subtle about it but he can definitely do all the same movements up and down the scale as Scott can.

Matt sang his solo as one who truly believes what he's singing about, and loves that Christ child born that holy night. My throat catches at the end, every time, when Scott brings it back down for a final "Oh night divine"--and there's Matt, with his hand over his heart. Perfect. In other news...of course Mitch rocks that moustache! Mr. Mitchell Grassi rocks anything he wants to. (Mullet? Bald? Dress? White bathrobe? Yep, ANYTHING.)

Pentatonix is no longer strictly a capella, though I believe this arrangement is. They have used instruments and extra voices on their Christmas music for several years. And experimented with instruments and vocal processing on their original songs to achieve the current pop sound they are looking for,
