I had the pleasure of seeing this 6 months ago. Camped in the desert and had a local guide organize a spectacular tour of Madaen Saleh and the city of Al Ula. After traveling to over 25 countries, seeing this- is still one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen, in person. Really, quite amazing. Especially the old palace remains- the pictures are a treasure. This country has a reputation, yes. When you are from another place - there is total mystery and some confusion, for sure. Not saying everything is or has been perfect, at all. Simply saying, after visiting and seeing with my own eyes and experiencing the country ... well, like any place... if, you go, your own experience is the only one that matters.

Ahmad Alibrahim its my pleasure. I have truly enjoyed living in my host country. I hope to see as much of your country- this next year. One of the reasons I moved here was to immerse myself in a culture and a part of the world that is mysterious to the rest of the world. Like anyone who travels a lot, my perspective is more open- because I actually travel to a place and have a personal experience- rather than form an opinion based on stereotypes. Here’s to your country and me seeing more of it. :)

Not treasure, its the place of punishment from time of Salih alayhissallaam. The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Do not enter the dwellings of those who were punished by Allaah (God )except while crying. If you are not crying then do not enter their dwellings lest you be afflicted with what afflicted them.’ He then masked his face with his mantle and rode faster until they crossed the valley.’1 In another narration, Ibn Umar told a different part of the story: Allaah's Messenger found that some of the Muslims who were travelling ahead of him had stopped in the dwellings of the people of al-Hijr in order to draw water from the well there. They drank from this water, refilled their water skins from it, and also used it to mix with their grains and make dough. When he ﷺ heard this, he commanded them to pour out the water in their water skins and to throw away the dough they had made with it.2 1 -2 Bukhārī and Muslim

Those stone home dwellings carved in solid rock are the left over of the Thamud, who had the technology given to them, until they betray the Creator and were banished. Every Muslim who read the Quran will know of the story.. The pillars of Iram by the people of Ad and people of Thamud who carve rocks in the valleys. Of course the western historians wouldn't know and they came up with all sort of theories why these places were left and remain intact still. والله علم

But the basic thing is after they have Oil from Nature,they could not think anything else.May be you heard,Saudis went to visit USA and England and with couple of women with them and booked the whole Hotel. In 1963 King Ibne Saud went to Bairut with 65 young women and booked the entire Hotel and did not allow any photographer. But one American Photographer with telescopic lens took one shot from two miles away. The present so called government send the student to US OR England. They are afraid of coup...so they give thousands of dollar to those student but basically those so called student do not go to school or college.They goes to Hotels with charming girls and drink. A breath of fresh air from Saudi Arabia embracing their pre-islamic history. Let's hope Al Qaida won't redecorate the location like ISIS did to Syrian and Iraqi museums and historic sites. I know how we Persians appreciate our ancient history and how important it is to our identity. Let's hope these historic sites can bring a broader picture of Arab identity to it's current population and make them realise that they had a culture too before Islam. And that should still be worn with pride as part of their heritage and national identity. Great video.
@asmaas68536 жыл бұрын
DHSNAKE the islamic history is not embraced anymore look at mecca how it's turned into . Its spiritual value has lost ( at least for me ) it nature has been destroyed the mountains are replaced with ugly buildings and hotels the government only care for money 💰 but ignoring the history of this city that even goes way before islam to Ibrahim and his son Ishmael
@DHSNAKE6 жыл бұрын
asmaa s that's exactly my point too. To know who we are we must know our past. That is part of our identity. To say everything before Islam was the age of ignorance is literally attempting to erase a people's past but why? To mold them into something new. Don't get me wrong, Islam just like any other religion should exists as a cultural landmark for regions and entire ethnic groups plus Mecca and kaaba it self is also part of Saudi Arabian history now and it's place should be respected just as the historic findings of the pre Islamic era of Arabian peninsula. My point is that a religion should not be allowed to completely dominate a society or culture or it will eradicate all the aspects of that culture that the theology don't approve of in order to assert it's own control. While it might not seem as a horrible loss at first sight, to loose your identity is to loose your connection with your past. I'm genuinely happy that this treasure exists and I can't repeat this enough, guard this or similar pre Islamic historic sites because unfortunately Saudi Arabia have a real problem with people thinking in very strict and uncompromising religious patterns and anything that would seem slightly in conflict with their views will come under attack and destruction. I mean do you remember Talibans destroying one of the oldest and few remaining large statues of budda in afghanistan? Communist (and totally non religious) China offered a colossal amount of money to buy and relocate the statue. Well, that piece of cultural heritage was blown up. Or ISIS destroying museums in Iraq and Syria. Relics several thousands of years old destroyed in a moment in order to "maintain actual ignorance" about a forgotten time. I'm fascinated to learn more about that era of Arab history rather than hearing how there was nothing before islam. Who were Arabs of that time? How did they live? How did they think? How did they view existence and everything within it? That too is the cultural heritage of your people if your a Saudi (I assume). Btw, I know our people are supposed to hate each other but I don't get that either. If Europeans that started two world wars along with countless centuries of animosity and wars before those world wars and yet they can create a union together and live peacefully side by side, why are we people of middle east not doing the same thing?! At some point Europeans put their differences aside and started to see each other like actual people and not potential enemies. Why aren't we doing the same? What do you think?

@DHSNAKE6 жыл бұрын
Abdullah Al-Hazzani why would I be? That was almost 1400 years ago! Lol
@abdullahal-hazzani98826 жыл бұрын
DHSNAKE Well I am sorry about what I said about colonizing Persia, I have just read this comment and I have to say that I respect the way you think, we should respect our pre-Islamic- period,first point I agree with, because it is a part of our identity, second point we must stop hate each other and stop killing each others because we have a lot of common things including the geographical and cultural things, don’t go far, in second world war Europeans killed each others more than any period in the history, and yet, they established their EU.

lol those Islamic writing on wall are the last mark on something that pre dates Islam. That is a ancient civilisation far older than Islam. Islam came way more in modern times, different culture, pre Islam

After a period of time, the people of Thamud decided to kill the camel, and when they killed it, God destroyed them all with the shouting, and his prophet good and those who believed with him from the people of Thamud escaped, and then Saleh and his believers left to Makkah.

Arabia, Levant and Mesopotamia/Iraq full of historical site, with old castle, old fort, old palace, old city wall, but Yemen, Iraq and Syria today many historical Building and ruins are destroyed, Syria Castle, City wall, caravanserai,old city, old building. it sad, in 1920s Saudi destroyed many artifact and building too. i believe they regret now. this is proof of Arab civilization. if Arab it self love to wipeout and have nothing like Sub-saharan africa like Congo, Central Africa Republic, Senegal.

I hate when they do things in private....gives them time to hide/destroy what THEY don't want people to know, steal and keep artifacts of their choosing, etc. It also gives them time to "rewrite" history and create narratives.....le sigh.

fantastic but these are not tombs so i would take the tour guides words with a grain of salt. Just because they have been crudely vandalized by ancient arabic graffiti does not make them Islamic either. They are preislam. The volcanic regions of arabia have hundreds if not thousands of stone markings more fascinating than the Nazca lines but as i can tell they would rather distract you with these supposed tombs than to have to answer for what those markings might be because they are preislamic as are these supposed tombs, but they dont want to accept their pagan past. Look up the channels of Michael Tellinger and Brien Foerster before you go.
@sanabougossa54705 жыл бұрын
Gods Eye View they accept their pagan past . They just no longer feel connected to it. It is labelled “ time of ignorance “ . Just like us european don’t really feel connected to our Middle Ages or Stone Age

All is well said but I didn't understand how the script engraved can be Islamic? Islam is 1300 years old. But the structure if it is prehistoric it would be before advent of Islam. Let real scientific facts come out and not some fanatic views.

still under work for Tourism more improvements to come ... human Civilization in Arabia is one of the oldest in the world ... dates back to Al-Magar civilization 7000-9000 B.C funnily enough ... it's the same culture we have for thousands of years .. in Al-Magar we found that they take cares of horses and wear Jambya (which we still do it today) and much more like Kingdom of Dilmun and Kingdom of Kindah and others

are Saudis trying to create a culture. They should be proud of the desert hey have and keep setting up tents. there are a lot of people who go to Mecca which will bring a lot of money to the country. what tourism??? they cut hands in the public and a lot of fundamentalism in the country, and a woman daring to walk in the country without the covering them with a black cloth all round.
