aaron paul communicates jesse's humanity with such nuance and detail. the little disgusted turn and shake of his head when walt says "some kind of turf dispute, and... apparently we lost" is SO GOOD. really highlights how little walt thinks of their dealers' lives, while meanwhile they are jesse's friends that do exactly what he was doing months before. it's just a good early indicator of the contrast between walt and jesse's attitudes towards the lives of others

I think it demonstrates that Saul has a good understanding of the business. As Eladio put it, you can't really have emotion in any of this. Saul knows that dealers getting shot is a sad reality of the game, and you have to just kind of accept that. (Even Walt wants Jesse to put aside any revenge for Combo, as it was a pointless turf dispute. Him being unable to is what drove the wedge between Walt and Gus).

This is one of those interesting scenes in the context of Better Call Saul, where it works a little worse and a little better. Jimmy dismissing this death as collateral with the coldness that it no longer matters to him? It's an established part of the character arc, season six of BCS went to great pains to establish this as part of what becoming Saul meant, but it can't help but feel a little off. I think a big part of it is the acting, that Bob just doesn't have as much to work with in this guy, and certainly doesn't have in his acting yet that this guy has actually seen death so viscerally. But there's also that spark of opportunity. Jimmy saw pots of gold all the time, and there's a very strong through-line in how he pursues this circumstance, chooses now as the time to pull that Gus string. He sees opportunity and pursues it for its own sake, and that of course is what digs his grave.

One of the very few continuity errors in BCS/BB. Saul actually knows a guy (Mike) who knows a guy (Gus). While here he claims to know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows another guy. Impressive that two shows as legendary as they are in their own rights and which on top of that were then connected after the fact have such small continuity errors.
@worthlessfools13 ай бұрын
Nope. He said that last "..who knows a guy" in a rather shaky voice. We see in BCS that he is actually a bad liar, and whenever lying he has that shaky voice. He realized he could have been saying too much when he said he knows a guy who knows a guy, so he added another knows a guy to cover his tracks a bit.

Street aspects of BB were always it's weakest point. As with any form of entertainment suspension of disbelief is required to enjoy the show fully as a work of art and a character study, however street aspects of the show was wayyyyy over simplified. 1. In reality Combo situation would have happened much more earlier. 2. They would have never reached 40k revenue from a pound. A pound is a LOT to move if you don't have the proper network, having a bunch of montage scenes with dudes selling small amounts in nightclubs or the streets doesn't make this okay. 3. Let's overlook everything and take the scenes leading to Combo's death at it's face value. Street operations doesn't work with a dude standing by himself on a corner standing it up and moving it at the same time. Crews have lookouts, stash guys, front and muscle. Whole set up is way too simplified. 4. Jesse's crew would have given themselves up to the cops easily and someone would have snitched a 100 percent. Whole operation doesn't make sense. 5. Breaking point of the show/central conflict between Jesse and Gus' two dealers would have never happened the way it was depicted. Depiction of Gus on the show is a cutthroat business man, top guys doesn't meet their street level dudes on clandestine meetings talking openly. Someone at the level of Gus doesn't even speak to their lieutenants face to face, let alone street guys. Fallout part is more believable, someone like Gus would have taken the hits seriously and considered it a coup, however set up is once again over simplified and doesn't make sense. If Gus' set up was like that, he would have been caught a long time ago, so the depiction of him as this shrewd business man who operates out of the shadows doesn't make any sense when compared to on screen actions. Breaking Bad is top 5 all time and may even be the greatest character study, however it can never be considered as the goat due to all these flaws.
