I absolutely love that you shred your own cheese. People do not understand that bag cheese is coded in potato starch which is why it always turns out grainy when you make a cheese sauce or macaroni and cheese with it. As much as I love Welsh rabbit, the beer and cheese sauce is ruined because of potato starch. Thank you for reminding me about how easy this recipe is. My mom always added a quarter cup of chopped parsley to the mix to make it festive at Christmas time. It never changed the flavor, but boy do any sausage balls look wonderful!!!!?

I was taught how to make this by my grandmother. The only thing we do different is that we cook our sausage and add it in to the mixture. We just put it directly on the pan. My son has us add a bit of Cayenne pepper every now and then. It adds a different taste.

Thank you for the video upload! I use to make these many moons ago. Now I will be alone for Thanksgiving and Christmas (Pandemic 2020) and wanted to make them for myself as my family is 600+ miles away. I am auto immune, so I have to be alone + just got out of a week long hospital stay with a Crohn's Disease flare. NOT looking for pity. Just please yall, never take your health for granted. I'm a college graduate that lives in the projects now due to my health. I love these. I went to the Bisquick site and everything had changed. They had recipes for all different ways of making these. But not this one. This one is the best! I use Jimmy Dean Hot sausage to give them a kick and I don't use dipping sauces. But that's just my preference. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone this crazy year! Making (and eating) these will bring me back so many good memories.

I use to love making them, but it really hard using hand, so I finally got me the KitchenAid mixer. Total so much easier using the mixer. I use half mild and half hot sausage.

I wouldn't be able to do anything without my mixer. My grandmother bought me my first Kitchenaid mixer over 25 years ago....it is Cobalt blue and it still works perfectly like it was brand new. It changed my life...haha. I got my mother's white one when she was no longer able to cook and I have been using it too...it is the very basic model but I love them all. I remember how hard these sausage balls were to make before we had these mixers and there is no way my hands could handle that now. Thanks so much for watching and commenting...Happy Holidays!! Caren p.s. I am going to try the recipe your way this next time....I love spicy stuff.

Never thought to use a stand up mixer. I use plastic gloves to mix combine ingredients and if necessary, adding milk helps the mixture stick together. Or use a mixer like you did which looks 10x faster. Great video.

The insurance company I worked for in the early 70s printed a cookbook of recipes submitted by the employees and this recipe, with the addition of spices , is in there. This makes a tasty, filling appetizer. My involvement was typing up the submitted recipes. I still have my copy, which is showing it’s age, and I treasure it.

@@ccjohnson6798 Thanks for your reply and Merry Christmas to you and your family. It is Christmas today. I have have added dried herbs, chopped olives, onion, etc. to the sausage ball mix. I know you said you use the mixer but at this point I am still able and prefer mixing the dough by hand as I get chunks of sausage. Umm, bacon bits added sounds good. Even a touch of horseradish.
