Making a Sausage Toad in the Hole with Roast potatoes, lemon carrots and Onion Gravy.
Ingredients
225g plain flour
4 Eggs
300ml milk &water (50/50 mix)
1/2 tsp salt
For Onion Gravy
1 medium onion finely sliced
1 dessertspoon of flour
500ml stock, beef or chicken (Fresh, carton or cube are all OK)
Salt & Pepper to taste

This is a real family favourite in many homes. I actually make my own sausage but you can use any sausage you prefer.

I have been binge-watching your videos for a couple of days now because you cook just like my grandad, it's bringing all my favourite childhood memories back! We have a very typical Yorkshire family so I can tell you now this will go down well with the family! I love how you give tips and explain everything in a way I can understand, even giving options to replace ingredients when it's difficult to find exactly what you need! 10/10 the best cooking channel on youtube.

I am so glad you said "sausage" Toad in the hole because my family used to also do "Lamb chops" toad in the hole when the money was willing. :) Cup of plain flour pinch of salt one egg milk and water, so simple, we grew up watching and continued doing, you don't need a chefs spin on a pourer's staple :)

hi mr paul looks great, my easy batter mix is simple, put you eggs 2,3,or4 into a glass jug then tip into your mixing bowl add the same measure of flour and milk and a half teaspoon of mustard and mix, it makes perfect yorkies every time. give it a try you don't have to weigh anything,

I was just talking to my sister about so called chefs not doing toad in the hole well, seeing everything I’ve cooked following you has come out lovely I clicked on this. It made me laugh that you started saying the samething.

. Well, Mr. Paul, you explained why my yorkshire puddings are not quite right! Does the same method hold true for 'popovers'? Also, could you let us know the lemon glazed carrots recipe, the whole meal looks wonderful! You are just delightful, and your instructions are very clear, Thanks again!

Yes, Popovers are just Yorkshire puddings with an American name. The Lemon Glazed Carrots are on my to-do-list ASAP-

It has to be fiercely hot (220ºC)

Mr Paul when you put the batter in with the sausages do you put hot oil in first then the batter? or the batter straight into a dry cooking dish? Its looks lovely, going to try this over the weekend 🙂

Hi Nicola, I preheat the fat in the tins in the hot oven for about 15 minutes before adding the sausage and batter. I hope this helps, I'm sorry I didn't explain that in the video.

On my kindle it's a chevron to show what in the description When I make Yorkshire pudding I use two eggs my mum always used one but I will give your recipe a try my mum was a brilliant cook with cakes and such but useless with a meal which was meat potatoes and one veg mind that was way back in the fifties

As I trained in the family charcuterie before learning to bake I make my own. In fact up to the Covid problem I still made sausages for the local british expats. Italy has a great range of sausages, use any one you enjoy. P.S. You haven't answered my email.

Yes the fat should be almost smoking when the sausages and batter goes in.

Curious American here! Plenty of other Toad in the Hole recipes (at least the majority I've seen) treat this dish more like a casserole with the veg also in the baking tins yet your variation is a Yorkshire pudding with sausage in the bake and everything else on the side. Is this a debate in UK as to what is proper? A matter or preference? Traditional versus modern? Also curious as to why you decided to thickly dice your onions for the gravy instead of making the onion gravy you normally make, is this just happenstance or a premature decision for this dish? Family preference? Love the videos, bud!

I don't know where you're looking, I just Googled Toad in the Hole images and out of 368 only 3 contained vegetables the rest were sausages in Yorkshire pudding. Not surprised as it's a traditional dish from Yorkshire in the UK where I had a bakery for 46 years before relocating to Spain. There is and never has been any debate regarding Toad in the Hole in the UK. Some people also replace the sausage with lamb chops. Not sure what you mean about the grave, this is real English Onion Gravy what we normally make. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Us Brits never put veg in Toad In The Hole. It's is purely sausages and Yorkshire Pudding. We never have put veg in it!

Toad in the hole, PROPER, is sausages in a "batter" ala yorkshire pudding, there is no other "correct" version, that is it,

I make them commercially with some expensive equipment. Before you can make them at home you will need a filling machine to stuff the sausage meat into the casings. Not sure where you are but, you will also have buy the sausage casings too (Skins).

I have the attachment for a KitchenAid and found a recipe for Irish bangers but that source stressed that they were quite different from British sausages. If you think it would be possible to make them with the equipment I have (I can get casings), I would really like to know how to make your sausages. Any chance of a You Tube video? Am in Canada so not sure what kind of sausage to ask for if I can’t make my own.

Hello, Mr. Paul. What a wonderful meal except for the cooked lemon carrots. Cooked carrots=ickymae for me. Yuck. I cannot stand any type of cooked carrots. Funny, I like them raw. Raw carrots makes sense to me. Thank you for the video.

I do not know who came up with the concept of peas and carrots together, but whomever did it was Wrooooong! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Two weeks ago, my friend called herself preparing Nick some carrots with cinnamon, and I believe, brown sugar. I said "Lesley, what in the hell? My nephew is not going to eat that!" Guess, what? That mess ended up being a mess on the floor. I plainly told her that Nick was not going for that mess. Yuck! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I make Yorkshire puddings and freeze them, as I live alone it's not worth making them for each meal due to the oven time.

@@MrPaulsPantry Hi Mr Paul I only use a desk top PC and KZbin has made lots of changes lately. The *dislike* button is now disabled on all videos (not just yours) and on most videos *not just yours) the *show more* button doesn't exist. It may be a temporary thing and could be my Chrome browser but I'll keep a watch and let you know. I did find the recipe and ingredients on your web page though and it turned out delicious. Thank you.
