Do you prefer 1x or 2x for your gravel bike setup? BTW, Sava kindly offered to give a 10% discount to TWC fans using the code "Cruise10" when you checkout. This is not an affiliate code, so there is no kickback motive for me. Helps you get an even better deal on an already nicely priced bike.

I'm a 2x guy, because I live in Northern Virginia with a lot of hills surrounding me. I have the 2x Canyon Grizl CF SL 8, for reference.
@Nhkg175 ай бұрын
1x for me. I don't pedal at speeds over 40km/h and on hills I can't handle on the biggest cog it's better to push the bike anyway.
@andrewnorris54155 ай бұрын
I get away with 1x. Find it easier to clean and maintain. Chain never slips off due to clutch mech and narrow wide ring. Can still handle very steep tech climbs, with effort. But it's easier than my MTB as so light! Excellent tech climber. For touring I prefer multiple rings up front, or get worn out over multiple days with heavy loads in the hills.

@@TwoWheelCruise one thing maybe to keep in mind, US gravel events are long and it's not uncommon to see KZbin videos on gravel rides that are over an hour. So you might be able to get away with less strict video lengths here

G'day Mate I've been watching your channel since Feb and have been enjoying your videos. I am also a keen endurance cyclist however two weeks ago I broke my leg. i have many months ahead of recovery. Your earlier videos have been getting me through the hours of boredom so big thanks. Really enjoyed your Taiwan trip and plan to go mid next year. I cycled round Korea in 2023 which was also amazing. If you ever wish to come to Australia in particular Melbourne I can show you some of our rides. keep up the great work Cruise. Oh for gravel i prefer 1x

Wow, I am really impressed too ! That has turned out to be the heck of a good bike and no doubt lovely Thuong will need her own one too on her arrival. You are both going to have so much fun exploring the gorgeous network of wooded trails all around your neighbourhood. The hassle of the unruly traffic seems to be a million miles sway now,.. As for higher slope climbing, it will not be too difficult to travel to the nearest higher region once you find the time.
@TwoWheelCruise5 ай бұрын
I did bring Thuong's road bike here, but she's likely not going to need it. Gravel is definitely the best option for riding around here. I'll need to look into where the actual closest mountain is, but likely at least a 3 hour drive for anything decent

You can get a big cassette, larger chainring and wolfs tooth type adapter that extends your derailleur from ali for less than like 50 for all of it if you look around and check reviews, you might need a longer chain too though. That will give you the legs you need on your alloy bike and might be a fun experiment, It worked for my bike and is still solid 2000km later.
@TwoWheelCruise5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your suggestion! I'll try getting a larger chainring

for gravel and mt bikes, 1x makes sense because shifting the front mech is pretty risky when it gets bumpy. Since you're not in very hilly area, the trick is to figure out what gear range you need, but for 1x, I think it would help to have at least 11 speeds and maybe a XDR cassette.

Wow. Talk about gravel galore. Love the lush vegetation. Looks ideal for gravel bikes. How far do you have to go to get to the mountains? About the components, what is the road equivalent on the Sava? IE, Shimano 105, Ultegra, etc?
@TwoWheelCruise5 ай бұрын
This is just scratching the surface of the gravel roads here. No mountains within a 3 hour drive though 😔 grx is probably between 105 and ultegra, but this is the 10 speed version

Since you don't have sizable hills in your part of Michigan, it sounds like your Poseidon just needs a larger chainring & new chain, to better suit your riding style.

1x works if area not too varied. 2x if is varied area with climbing and terrain. 2x10 on my rim bike CX bikes expect for the singlespeed. Only the singlespeed Cannondale CX 9 is left of rim brake for outside with race/ big climb alloy tubular wheels for outside retro bike. 2x10 Jami’s supernova is on the trainer due to pandemic parts shortage for quality rim brake wheels but it could take up to 40mm tires. CX series/ team gave a 2017 Raleigh rx 2.0 demo alloy disc bike to clear up storage space that goes up to 40mm in rear. Use as general use outside not just events but still getting use to the 1x11 setup. If I go 2x has to be electric, no frame FD cable routing. In SoCal 2x is better with the variety of riding we have flat to big mountains. Poseidon Bike HQ is just over the hills from me so their bike is set up climbing from local demands. You have a good local area for gravel rides unlike a lot pavement with traffic then park area limited dirt-old road /trail network with varied terrain (smooth to dirt to rocky) in many places in the states.
@TwoWheelCruise5 ай бұрын
I'm sure the 1x is great if you get it dialed for your area. It's hard to stock it on bikes though due to everyone being from different terrain. I bet the stock gearing on the Poseidon is great in the mountains, I wish we had more decent hills nearby here but we are lucky with the vast amount of gravel
