Thanks for making this video. It got me going in the right direction. I was able to get the dog ring out by making a tool out of a .38 Special casing. It was not strong enough to reassemble the bolt though. That is a mother of a spring in there! I put on the thinking cap and found an 8mm deep socket and cut it with a Dremel. Perfect O.D. to fit in the bolt, and large enough center hole to allow the striker to move freely. Piece of cake to reassemble with the tool. Impossible? without it? Probably. BTW: Mine was made before WWII in Utica. I put a Lyman 90 MJT with target knobs on for the rear sight, and Williams globe in the front. It is super accurate. I just wish I could figure out how to drop some more off of the trigger pull. I've got it down to 3 1/2 lbs., but I can not go much lighter on the sear spring. It fails to cock when I do that. I have polished everything I can. Any ideas on how to lighten the pull further. Cut the mainspring/striker spring? Thanks again.

It's a trade-off, more trigger pull vs. accidental discharges...decided to accept the pull.

Thanks for posting this! I just inherited the same model rifle and noticed the same safety issue. I'll be completely stripping it down soon for cleaning and will check this out as well. Edit: And, of course, I go work the hell out of the safety and can't get it to happen again. I'm about ready to chalk it up to being dirty from sitting on a rack for at least 40 years, so just going to give it a thorough strip and clean and just test it more next time I'm out at the range, but glad to find instructions here on the bolt disassembly!

Thank you. I have an old Springfield 86c and I been cleaning it up and have been looking for a bolt disassembly/reassembly video as both seem to use an identical bolt design.

They marketed this design under a handful of names. Good luck!
