IMO, as an owner of this vehicle, you need to carefully spec out the interior to get that "special" feeling. I have dark ash wood trim and it makes a huuuuuge difference. It completely changes the interior by almost entirely getting rid of the piano black, most importantly around the centre console. Literally never used the energizing refresh garbage. However, the massage function is AWESOME and I do like the fragrance (just turn the intensity down). Still smells fresh as fuck after about 8 months of ownership. It's marketed in a lame way but when you live with it everyday, it's awesome. One thing that had huge appeal to us was the fact that you get a convertible vibe with the hard top design. With the sunroof open and the pillar-less windows down, this thing feels like an SL. The heated air scarf extends your windows down season by a month or so. It's interesting to hear you guys discuss who is buying this car, and why one might do so. I'm 32 years old and, while I admit this is quasi-old man spec, my wife and I bought (leased) this car because it really does feel special to us. Having owned a number of 3 series and C class variations, this was such a massive step forward that it absolutely felt worth the extra cash. As someone who grew up with nothing but a used car in the drive way, the chance to jump into this car every day is an absolute dream. It's fast, it's comfy, and it has a presence to it. It's big. It's heavy. It feels that way under hard braking. But man....classy as fuck, quick in a straight line and full of tech. Good stuff.

You can get the center console in all sorts of materials (glossy or matte, open-pore wood, metal, carbon fiber), and all of them look and feel better than the piano black. Feels like an oversight that this wasn't mentioned.

Your point about the difference of how car audio measures versus how it actually sounds is illuminating. Mercedes and Burmester market these systems as very high end, but the reality is that they're just very good. In our GLC, the Burmester stereo sounds on par with how our old xc90 sounded. That's high praise because both stereos sound good, but the Volvo's system was the base stereo and the Burmester in the GLC was an upgrade. It seems people are getting taken for what amounts to fancy speaker grills and a whole lot of marketing. Acura does this right with ELS and their Krell stereo option. The Krell option in the RLX sounds better than the Mark Levinson stereo in Lexus cars.

You’re going to spend $ to drive this car, and you’re only going to spend this kind of $ if a) you have enough you don’t care and b) you’re not interested in using that $ to make more $ so you’re okay with the lost opportunity cost. I've got a regular e220d coupe and it's absolutely wonderful.....rides beautifully great on fuel, quicker than youd think and looks far more expensive than it is. The E Class is the sweet spot of the range. I think an E400d suits the character of the vehiclr better than the E53 but so long as you avoid the E300 you're on to a winner

@savagegeese @ 9:20 You mention 'When you have an Aluminum piece, it saves weight, it's more rigid' which is not totally right. Although Al-alloys are lighter than materials such as cast Iron, or steel, its rigidity is far less than any of those. Typical Al-alloy used by German manufacturers is AW- 5754 with a Young Modulus in 69 GPa order, and UTS of 220 to 350 Mpa. While a typical cast iron used by the same manufacturers is GGG40, which displays a Young Modulus of 160 GPa and UTS in order of +400Mpa. Even aviation Al-alloys, regardless of heat treatment, cannot be compared to Ferrit alloys in terms of rigidity. Choosing aluminum in such applications is based upon ductility of the Al- thus ease of production, and lowered unsprung mass.
@Remenschneider4 жыл бұрын
You can actually get some combined values which help you choose a material: - material density and Young's Modulus (required mass for desired stiffness) - material density and tensile strength (required mass for strength) If your refine that quotient depending on the load condition, you get specific values for that particular condition (e.g. required mass for stiffness in bending is material density divided by cube root of Young's Modulus). For your given example (less is better, units are weird so they can be normalized): - required mass for stiffness in bending would be about 0.66 for "Al" and 1.45 for "GG" - required mass for stiffness in compression/extension would be about 0.39 for "AW" and 0.49 for "GG" So in this case, the "AW" part could be made lighter at the same stiffness for those two load conditions.
@parsasajedi26204 жыл бұрын
@@Remenschneider Thank you for explanation. While what you said is true, the cross section - or geometry - must be specified for this in order to determine the tension in the part. If we negate that element- basically just boil down our argument to material selection for 'one specified' geometry- the only benefit we receive is the weight reduction but rigidity does not increase (( and as u mentioned, with a little adjustment it can be designed to be more rigid with less weight)). As such, the phrase used in the video, ' *Aluminum saves weight and is more rigid* ' could be laid out as ' Aluminum saves weight and allows for optimal design for higher rigidity to weight ratio' in my opinion.

This Review is Incredible. The Frequency response graphs are just incredible attention to detail. Thank you for this! For someone who is an audiophile and a car enthusiast I really appreciate the mechanical detail that went into this review, Please keep it up! I actually own a C43 AMG and I hate it. Steering is numb, ride is horrible, road noise is pathetic and the sound quality is garbage (same speakers as the E53). The Engine is alright but mines a 2016 so no pops or bangs. Overall just a very average car with a bad ride. I wish i bought the Jaguar XE S. You should defo consider reviewing it!

This is a Mercedes and this is state of the art. The car was designed for the thinking man who appreciates technology for technologies sake. Is this car for the ordinary person? No way. Most people won't understand the complexity and certainly won't budget for the upkeep of such a sophisticated automobile. I know what's going to happen to some of these. In 7 years, after passing through 3 owners, it will sit on Mel's used car lot and need a ton of maintenance. It's a sad way to end up but there you go.

*_Less is more._* Now that is a short, but sweet, 'saying' that would NEVER, EVER be spoken in or around a Mercedes-Benz factory, a Mercedes-Benz dealership, or a Mercedes-Benz service center. Complexity (especially in re: to a passenger car) just for the sake of being complex is... well, it's basically just the engineer's narcissism being showcased to (& eventually burdening) the targeted consumer. And I see that MB still has (and perhaps always will have) plenty of willing customers that love to be 'punished' financially, as well as to be punished later, via immense inconvenience/wasted time servicing/repairing these 'works of art & design'. Oh and yes, they'll want even MORE money.

Great content. Honestly most motoring "journalist" just seem like fanboys of every high end car they review. More like sales people than journalists and that's because of the shady relationship between car manufacturers and the motoring media. I like the fact that this channel points out the shit of these high-end cars in a way that actually matters to real buyers looking at these things and not just fan buying over how fast and good they feel to drive.

It’s a “zero cost option” meaning you can select black piano plastic, or pick the option of wood for $0. Yea, it does cost something overall, you’re spending 75k+ on a car, but the option of swapping to wood is a “zero cost option.”

Most of the time I tell them to just connect their phone, and use CarPlay because the user interface of these are not intuitive whatsoever.

I think this car is misunderstood here. Its just a sporty perfect daily. I was lucky enough to own an e class coupe of this generation (but with a smaller engine) and to me its the perfect daily, but that really shows over time and not in a short time review. The interior spec on that test car is horrible. The car feels 10 times more premium and comfy if it had the black open pore wood instead of piano black plastic and aluminum. The infotainment controls are perfect and you quickly get used to them. I understand how its confusing in the beginning, but i love that you can choose how you want to control it. It also makes perfect sense if you know older mercedes controls. They kept that and added new controls to it to give old and young customers all what they want. I heavily prefer that over having just one option like in new audis. Its always just effortless and comfy. The selfdriving assistants are also such a pleasure in traffic jams. I love the dumb massage seats, multibeam light, the burmeister (which sounded perfect to me). It just feels super composed. And I think its freaking beautiful. Sporty but elegant. But just don’t own it out of warranty. Too much tech to fail. And dont let them fool you into thinking its an amg. I personally cant think of a better daily driver.

Mercedes... the one car company that would change the wheel to another shape. (If they could). Needlessly complicated. But hey, some people equate a large user manual, abysmal interfaces, and high repair costs with a quality experience. A Mercedes engineer once said to me years ago... "I just don't get you American people.... Here (Germany)... these are Taxi cabs."

@Hachimichima4 жыл бұрын
The reason they choose a Merc as a cab is just because they are reliable and comfortable. Everthing ends there. Most are classic with a small 200/220 cdi engines. The differences between a basic taxi and a nice equipped avantgarde V6 for example is huge.
