The T24a engine is actually quite reliable. It is simply an A25A engine that has thicker cylinder walls, better cooling, and old school variable valve timing. Its actually MORE old school than the 2.5NA A25A engine. So this engine will last. Just because it has a turbo doesn't mean it will break, its just that germans suck at making reliable turbo cars (late alone the korean makers).
@johnstone76972 жыл бұрын
More horsepower through 2 less cylinders, a turbo spinning at hundreds of thousands of RPM, a bunch of additional plumbing, electronic controls etc......Toyota has had legendary reliability, but that reputation was largely built on old school, normally aspirated, relatively low hp per cc designs. There's no guarantees, with all this fancy stuff hanging off the motor, and the turbos will likely die long before the engine does.
@KZ-se4ik2 жыл бұрын
When you look at the torque output of this engine, the peak cylinder pressures are probably 50% higher than what the old V6 experienced. On top of that they've got to be extra careful about detonation issues, and the turbocharger itself is a major wear item. While I'm sure Toyota has done a ton of long term durability testing, all things being equal, the old NA V6 would probably look better after 10-15 years, if that's your thing.

I’m sorry but people who trash this refresh and say that this is a rebranded Toyota need to understand a number of things. 1) It’s not just about looks but also ride quality. This car drives far better than a Toyota like the Venza. It has more personality, quieter, and speaks to you. 2) The engine has more horsepower than any of the Toyota products while giving you A LOT of fuel economy unlike its competitors in this segment. 3) Lexus has a 55% resale value after 5 years due to its engine reliability unlike the Germans who lose so much value just right after you drive out of the dealer. 4) What more do you expect from a car though? To be like the Batmobile? To have Iron Man’s suit capability?

the hybrid system does take a lot of strain off the 4 cylinder used in the 350h, so reliability I don't think will be that much of an issue, but certainly it will sound like crap and not be as smooth or refined feeling in such a big car compared to the outgoing V6 models. I personally think they should have tried to improve the efficiency of the V6 and mated it to the improved hybrid system, best of both worlds, but Lexus now are seriously cost cutting in my opinion and trying to claw back for all the new R&D. I mean charging more for a 4 cylinder hybrid is a bit of a joke quite frankly...

4:36 YIKES. The amount of bezel on that lower infotainment trim is astonishingly insulting. If I got into any car with a center screen that looked like that I'd dismiss it immediately. Touchscreens are wildly inferior to rotary knob style interfaces. 2018 Audi MMI and the like were the peak of human-machine interaction in cars, but now automakers forego spending money on designing a good looking dashboard with quality hardware and just slap the customer in the face with a Fisher Price Etch A Sketch. Easily the worst trend in car design right now. Toyota and Lexus are the worst offenders, besides Kia/Hyundai for the comically terrible bezels, but every automaker should take their touchscreens and shove them. After being in several cars with them I can tell you it is so distracting to operate while driving that I don't know how it makes DOT approval. Much more unsafe than using a smartphone. God I hate the general direction the auto industry is moving these days. Automakers these days be like: Put a heavy, useless and dirty-to-make EV battery cell and an etch a sketch dashboard in a car, price it at $80,000 because we're cash-strapped and have to compete with dumbass shit like the Mustang Mach E and call it a day.

It’s interesting how lexus insists on making itself a luxury option for people that drove a toyota but now can afford something more expensive. This RX still has the same wheelbase as its Highlander sibling. Why is it still a sibling of Highlander at all? One part of lexus tries to uplift its brand image by building cars like the LC500, the other part still tries to shove in as much fwd toyotas converted into a “premium” car into its product line as possible. They spent billions of dollars into designing the rwd TNGA-L platform only to release 2 cars built on it, the LS and the LC and the LS is a subpar product compared to its rivals. How they “updated” the IS on its 10 year old chassis rather than redesigning it on TNGA-L leaves me in awe. Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, AUDI Q7 all utilize longitudinally mounted engines on premium platforms with much longer wheelbases. How does Lexus think that it will carry its brand image up there with the germans by building inferior products? I’d say they are happy with where they are positioned just below the germans but they say they tried to move the RX “upmarket” so that indicates that they are trying to compete with the germans. They will never be able to do that with this product lineup. I think the new RX is still another botched attempt from lexus.

I think electrification is everything that’s really on car manufacturers’s minds these days. You know that what you’re looking at is basically started seven years ago? So, there’s a lot to think about… Now as for the competition… making a Japanese BMW, that is still making a BMW. You see the problem?

@@sorengz the genesis gv80 is designed to directly compete with bmw x5 and it manages to compete while being completely authentic. You don’t have to copy everything germans do to compete with them, just take what works and build upon it

What in the the world is wrong with that front grill? Looks like they oversprayed the grill while painting the hood. Everything else looks cool. Hopefully they still make cars by the time I can afford one. Also that target demo lol

It's fine for a luxury car. A25A is some Toyota engineering at best

I won’t miss it. After driving so many turbocharged cars the lack of low end torque got annoying. Having to downshift at every little stab of the throttle.

@markmiller32792 жыл бұрын
@@slscamg Not sure what you mean. Modern turbos almost all make peak torque at modest RPMs. They can still have a small amount of turbo lag from a stop, but they are making max torque quickly (just look up the numbers).

I’d definitely still go with the MDX Type-S.

Can you please review the new C300 Mercedes and probably compare it with BMW 330i M Sport?
