Great review and spot on about everything you said. But you know that. But all joking aside, you captured the key things that separate this car from a lot of German cars and SUVs in general. It does appear smaller than it really is on the exterior. But then you still have plenty of room on the interior especially with storage. It drives like a car. It makes you wanna whip this thing around. Mundane daily drives are somehow a lot more fun. I owned a 2014, then I went to a Ford Explorer Platinum, and then I went to a Volkswagen Atlas SEL Premium. Most of those moves were just needing more room as my kids grew. Just recently I got back into a 2025 Acura MDX, and I asked myself, "Why did they ever get out of this?" Well, that goes back to needing more room. I forgot. Ha! But being back behind the wheel of this thing, oh my God, it's so much fun. There's just something kind of magical about the way it drives that connects with you and connects you to the road. It's hard to put into words. It is a combination of the super all-wheel handling, linear power, suspension, transmission, and fairy dust that you mentioned in the review. Okay, you didn't say fairy dust. I added that part. But it's in there trust me. Great vehicle, it really is.

I was cross shopping between the MDX-S and X5 40i (m-sport). I went to 4 different dealerships for each. 3 out of the 4 Acura dealerships wouldn't budge below MSRP and the last one was willing to do $1,500 off (loyal rebate) however slapped some BS add-ons like ceramic coating, lo-jack ect.. So in the end it was still more expensive. On BMW side of things, from the 1st to the last, I was offered 3% off to the last one coming in at 9% off. With my CCA BMW membership, I was able to get another 1K off a new X5. So in the end, I custom ordered a nearly fully optioned X5 40i M-sport, got 10K off, vehicle was delivered in 3 weeks of ordering and out the door cost (NJ) was just under the MDX-S at MSRP. The thing that is really killing Acura right now are their prices and not willing to budge under MSRP especially on those Type-s trims were every single one of the dealers I walked into had 5K ADM on the integra's type-s.. Asking 80K for an MDX-S, a performance SUV, that honestly lacks the performance and fuel economy of it's competition, it's a hard pill to swallow when you can walk into the competition and get a better price for a better vehicle. Acura needs to understand it's not the type of brand for the money.

We own a 2022 MDX Advanced and we won't own another Acura product. Not because of issues, any car and all cars have issues. For me it comes down to how you're treated as a customer and how Acura handles those issues. Acura is a faux luxury brand that's probably dying and as such they seem to be cutting corners in the customer experience. They do not do loaners for maintenance and for repairs it's up to the dealer. That's a huge problem because that means I need to carve out half a day and as a business owner spending that time sitting at a dealer doing nothing is pretty brutal. More importantly Acura doesn't like standing behind their product. Case in point? Our driver's seat. I've owned dozens of cars and never had a seat structure fail but our driver's seat outside lower cushion bolster began to fail. The failure was related to the seat structure and the way the bolster was engineered. The bolster itself was fine. The whole thing literally began to detach from the rest of the seat frame. A known issues. I'm 6'6 and 200 lbs my wife weighs about 115. Neither of us are big people. The the bolster began separating, an online search showed this to be a common problem. I notified the dealer that I'd need to have that looked at and repaired on my next visit. We are still under the bumper to bumper warranty. Fast forward a few weeks, I take the car in, after reviewing it they said Acura was not covering it because this was "wear and tear". This is most definitely not wear and tear, it's not the leather cracking or getting ripped it's the physical structure of the seat that failed resulting in the bolster pulling away from the rest of the seat structure. I referred the dealer to similar issues reported by others, they said they agreed but Acura wasn't covering it and so I needed to escalate it and they would do the same. I logged into our Acura account that weekend and submitted the inquiry. In the inquiry I included links to several others reporting the same issue as well as Acura's own internal notification to dealers which was on NHTSA's website regarding the problem. Acura replied very quickly and promptly told me no saying "this fails to meet warranty parameters" whatever the hell that means. I sent a reply asking for clarification, to which they replied this isn't under warranty, a vague response. I replied back with all my info again (Keep in mind this was in the initial submission) stating my vehicles age, miles, problem as well as reminding them Acura is well aware of this issue. The reply? Not covered, this time they sent back a snipped from the warranty book, of which I also possess a copy. I replied back to Acura with add'l info from their warranty book as well as some state law on issues like this. Acura agreed to repair it. After I spent tons of time going back forth on an issue that was a slam dunk for basic warranty repair. We will NOT own another Acura and this has also soured us on Honda, of which we were planning to buy for our kids. As soon as the warranty and our already paid for extended service contract is over, the Acura is going away. They will not get another dime from me after such absurdity.

The Acura was my wife’s top pick because she liked the three row at the price of the X5 so we went Acura. Won’t happen again.

(ELS was better) 4) Touch screen together with true touch pad or some control wheel to operate while driving 5) Gear shift cooler as a standard 6) Digital back view mirror to use when car is fully loaded 7) more exterior/interior color combinations 8) smth different, but not shiny black plastic for Type-S to differ it from usual trims

The gas mileage on the MDX Type S is absurd and insulting for the lack of performance compared to real luxury rivals. I owned a 2024 GLE 53 and averaged 19-22 mpg with 429 HP and 413 lb-ft of torque. I traded it in for a 2025 GLE 63s and the dealership sold the 53 Certified Pre-Owned for $79K with less than 10K miles. Superior performance, better gas mileage, and far more luxury for only a few thousand dollars more (Type S is ~$76K) while retaining the factory warranty + 12 months of unlimited miles on the Mercedes CPO program. I'm glad Acura fixed the infotainment to a degree, but the archaic digital gauge cluster and Acura claiming that Type S is a "performance luxury vehicle" is inappropriate for this price point. Acura is not offering a bargain in this segment. They aren't competing at all. It's a different class vehicle.

The air suspension in comfort mode and powertrain is highly underrated on the Type S. It's not something that appears on a spec sheet, but for a ton of reasons I wouldn't trade the MDX for an X5 or X7 of any trim. There's a smoothness to the whole thing that just doesn't happen with the BMWs. Also, we averaged 24mpg going 82mph on the trip...

Coupled with a 22 gallon g tank the X7 has a range of 570 miles to one tank. That’s a 32% improvement in MPG and a 63% increase in range…. Plus, the push button controls on the acura are terrible. A big advantage is something they didn't change. The V6. I hope acura hears the complaints from Lexus buys and don't get rid of the V6 in the next gen. I think they should offer a 4 turbo but also offer a v6 for those who want it.

Fully loaded Type S is 75K, not 80K. That’s still A LOT cheaper and more reliable than most German options today. A loaded X5 with the fake “M”trim is $96K+ (but has a better engine of course), all other brands give you a rattly 4-cyl for more cash. This V6 MDX is a bargain even if you are leasing.

MDX more comparable to X7 in terms of size. I had a 2022 MDX type S and found the 350hp week and the 21mpg lower than it should be. Handling and stereo were great and who knew I 'needed' a seat massager!
@bigcjm3 ай бұрын
I think based on price alone the MDX type s has its hands full competing with the q7. The line up really good in that regard. X5 or x7 are better for more money though. I just don't know if someone does legit cross shopping and drives a GV80 or Q7 prestige, and chooses the type s MDX.
@kimberlywalker74262 ай бұрын
X5 with M sport suspension has a very firm uncomfortable ride quality. Drove the X5 coil over suspension (base X5) and its way to bouncy over road imperfections for a luxury vehicle. I'm hoping MDX type S does a better job with ride quality.

We love our 22 A-Spec and with the NA V6, we know it will run long past the warranty. The right amount of tech and buttons. I like the fact that there are no finger prints on the screen due to the touch pad. Yes, it takes some getting used to, but worth it. The AWD system is awesome. In the snow, you can certainly get some great rotation out of it. It never feels FWD like our Atlas did. Certainly a keeper!

Is there still no hybrid option for the MDX? I currently own one, and it’s a real gas guzzler. With the Lexus RX now offering 35 mpg, it feels like the MDX has fallen behind (I drive a lot). I also preferred the previous generation's double-line tail lamps-the classic Acura MDX look, almost as iconic as the Porsche’s signature rear lights. It’s disappointing that they changed such a beautiful detail to something that, frankly, looks a bit off and whatever.

I don't get the hard on for these 30+ speaker audio systems? Must be a processing nightmare! Would be interested how it compares to a decent aftermarket system though. The midrange dip prob helps to keep vocals from sounding like they are in your face.
@ryanmcfarland19003 ай бұрын
Yep. I had to turn some of the midrange frequencies down a bit because of that on our 2023 Type S using a 12 band eq. All the speakers, if well tuned like the Type S, does give good imaging in both the front and middle row which doesn't happen in smaller systems.

They should have give custumers more air vents in the second and third row even the CX-90 has third row vents even though they are at kneel level but a vent is a vent😃. The CX-90 just need a liitle more insolation materials, fix the transmission, add door sensors on the rear doors, off a bench seat because not everyone love captian chairs, more interior space, and lastly please make better infotanment system that has full touch capabilites.
