I agree when you said it's an emotional purchase. When I purchased my old Wrangler, it was because I have always dreamed of owning one but couldn't afford one until I saw a really good deal for a used one. But after three years of owning it, dealing with a lot of the negatives I've experienced (death wobble, fluttering hood, water leaking from the roof and so many more), I have scratched that itch and come to the realization that it just wasn't the vehicle I dreamed it to be. It isn't a vehicle catered for everyone, but for those lucky few who get the most joy out of it, it's a match made in modding heaven.

I agree with people that the price is eye-watering, but holy fuck these drive so much nicer than the previous generation. FCA made a real effort here, even if it isn't what everyone wants. If you really want a hardcore Wrangler you're probably going to buy an older one anyway. Attitudes and markets change. Cars that fail to adapt will cease to exist. I'd rather have a normie Wrangler than no Wrangler at all. Every car from every category is more refined now. For instance, a 2019 Miata, while light and small, is a far more comfortable car to spend time in than my 1991. Yet, it's still a Miata. The Wrangler, while being purpose-built to off-road in the beginning, is still a mass-market car that FCA needs to tweak in order to attract the largest possible audience. Like it or not, we enthusiasts are the minority, and appealing only to us will not make a car successful.

My second car (and the first car I chose for myself) was a used Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport, with the 4.0L engine and 5-speed manual. Except for the sound bar it was bare-bones - didn't even have AC. First thing I did was to get rid of the steel doors and replace them with cloth soft doors. Drove it open whenever possible. It was the best car I ever had in terms of fun - and, incidentally, in terms of reliability, too. Daily drove it for over eight years and the only out-of-schedule-maintenance was a wobbly turn signal stalk that had to be replaced for 30 bucks. That's it. Now, I'm driving a by comparison very refined, modern car which gets better MPG, is much safer and more luxurious - but it has become just an appliance.. a way to get from A to B, nothing more. But it is hard to justify to go back to a 20 MPG (or lower) vehicle - considering I drive mostly highway and the impact it would have on cost and environment. Also, the new Wranglers are just too fancy. Ah well, that's what video games are for... :P

When it's what makes you happy, the rest is irrelevant. IF I commuted like you do, I wouldn't have traded the Fusion. In no way is it a bad car. It's just that it's a car. Ppl rarely get it right when they do reviews. But I think you guys got it pretty close to exactly right. Take the good with the bad, Pro's with the Cons and its NOT the best vehicle on the road. Buttttttt we didn't expect it to be! We justtttt wanna get muddy and get dirty and OFF ROAD! Haha for someone who's owned 3 Jeeps I can tell you, you got it exactly right. The Jeep Wrangler Sahara when you get up to highway speeds it really is quite shaky and that's just something one has to know before buying and be somewhat comfortable with and get used to. The hard tops really aren't as bad though. I also owned a Patriot, the Patriot is good for just ripping around the city, its almost just like a car and gets fairly good gas mileage. The Jeep I own now is my favorite Jeep I have ever owned by far. I suggest anyone who likes Jeeps and wants the best of both worlds, as far as off road capability AND Luxury and comfort, I suggest you go for and or try out the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. That's what I have now. I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Bought it back into 2017. Loveeeeeee it, love it, love it, love it, love it. Haven't had single problem with it since I've owned it. Its so comfortable and luxurious. I'm just comfortable in it. I love how it feels to drive. Especially in the Winter and it goes off road really well. There are no issues high way driving, its actually quite comfortable. The only thing is, its about $100 to fill up the entire tank. So all my fill ups are done@ Costco where I save about $10/per fill up lol. So the Grand Cherokee gives owners the Off Road AND Luxury. The Patriot gave me a nice little compact experience, that was still fairly good off road believe it or not. It couldn't go everywhere my Grand Cherokee can go, butttt it got me to most of the places I wanted to go and ONLY COST half of what it costs to fill up my current Grand Cherokee. I miss my Patriot, but I'm happy to have moved onto something bigger and better. Love how high I sit up in my Grand Cherokee now. I'm honestly just super happy to be driving it every day and I feel super privileged. I enjoyed the review guys!

It's 20 years old, has been basically trouble free for the 4 years I've owned it, and has never left me stranded. It just seems make some people defensive when they come across someone really happy and having as much (if not more) fun with their Jeep who doesn't have a $600+ a month payment. Sorry...but it's true. My TJ is everything I want in a Jeep right now and Toyota will continue winning votes with my wallet when it comes to expensive vehicle purchases. Really appreciate the time and effort put into making this informative video. It's worth watching twice. And, bless you for playing a violin concerto during the intro. So tired of the heavy metal/head banger sh!t that one must endure on most of the other Jeep videos.

I’ve got a JK. It’s got all the technology I want or need. I’ve only had a few maintenance issues and they’ve all been minor. My son had a JL. It spent a lot of time at the dealers getting “fixed”. Most of the problems were electrical issues. This particular dealer’s service dept.is so bad it’s hard to believe they are still in business. The first time my son took it to them to fix an electrical problem, they had the Jeep for 8 weeks, supposedly waiting for parts. A few weeks after he got his Jeep, back more electrical problems developed related to a 4 wheel drive warning light. The dealer kept the Jeep for 12 weeks that time, supposedly waiting on parts. My son sold the Jeep when he got it back that time and bought a Toyota PU. The more technology a vehicle has the more likely there will be maintenance issues. The JL’s seem to have more problems than they should, and of course they have that well know corrosion issue that has become a class action lawsuit. I think the JK’s, manufactured with the 3.6L engine, might be some of the best model Jeeps on the market. I have no intention of trading my JK for a JL.

Ive had a 2019 Sahara Unlimited for the last week while my truck was at the dealership for repairs. I felt the drivers seat was kind of cramped. I wear size 14 shoes and with Columbia outdoor boots on I had very little left over foot room. The model i've had is the removable hard top. Sadly it's been cold or rainy so I haven't been able to take it off but that being said it is extremely noisy. Which is to be expected. It is enjoyable to drive though. The transmission is great. The Jeep and the New Ram Rebel have the best "truck" transmissions I have ever driven. I took the jeep off road down some of the same trails that I take my 4x4 truck through and the jeep felt like it was having a much easier time then my truck down the same trails even without locking diff's on the Sahara. I can see why it has a cult following. I don't think I would want one as my daily driver but it would be a great second vehicle for me.

Nate - Wow, that’s good to know. I usually hear that they handle well due to the longer wheel base. I’m considering buying one but still not sure.

@@anthonygiordano3991 we rented one, and we also rented a beat to death unlimited in Las Vegas at Fox rent a car last week. The gladiator had 8k miles and the unlimited had 70k worth of being beaten to death in the desert. The unlimited rode nicer and could actually live in regular sized parking lots. The gladiator is as long as a 2500 crew cab short box. Turning radius is terrible comparative to unlimited.

I find it interesting how you compared the jeep to the Miata. When my partner was looking for a Miata as a second fun car, I was looking for a jeep for the same reasons. I couldn’t find a jeep in good condition for the amount I wanted to pay, but I was able to find a Miata and I enjoy it for the same reasons that I would have enjoyed a jeep.

Sahara 4 cyl. Better creature comforts with the Sahara, but still good off-road ability. 4 cylinder has more get up than the 6 and better MPG.

You couldn’t be more right about comparing a wrangler to a Miata… especially a 2 door! I always tell people that and they look at me funny! I bought my first wrangler because I wanted the size and freedom of a Miata and the capability and toughness of a cherokee (I owned both back to back before that)

...well, ppl judge you by your car's headlights which is why everyone is dropping in LED bulbs in halogen housings. The $700 LED upgrade isn't too bad on most trims, but on the Sahara, it jumps to $1k because taillights are a part of the pkg. 😔 💵💵💵

I'm getting too old and I'm too tall to climb in and out of my GTi and I live on a dirt road and spend weekends on the dirt roads all the time in my Tundra, which is just too huge for single lane trails. I decided to go try a JL and see if I fit (6'5"). I used to own a 2005 LJ Unlimited, 4.0L and 6spd manual. I liked it but it was just a horror on highway, bad brakes, slow, rowing the manual in traffic was just terrible. I took out a Willys 2DR (I want it small) in the 8spd auto. I was surprised I fit (relatively) and it's way easier for me to get in and out of than the GTi. The noise level with the 3pc hard top is night and day compared to my 05 and not much noisier than my Forester XT and the Willys has MT tires on it. The acceleration is very solid, allows for breaking it loose any time you want and at 65 it still has guts to pass where my old 05 was just a dog on the highway. The brakes are very good. The 8spd auto even in 4L just works great. I took it down class 5 roads, heavy washboard at 40+ mph and the thing just sings along. It's a budget rally car and that is exactly what I want from it for my use. I pulled into the dealer after the drive and opened the hood to look at the 3.6L and ... it was the 2.0T. I am so impressed with the 4cyl, I felt like I was filming a Jeep commercial for the 4. The whole experience was so unfortunately good that I'm almost certain the GTi is going away for this Jeep. It's the GTi for New Hampshire class 5 roads and snow. The short WB of the 2DR, the twitchiness, the power of the motor to break it loose, it makes driving it super fun. With the GTi, where it gets fun is a threshold where I get tickets or wind up doing something far worse. It brings me back to my early cars where pushing them took careful attention and focus to learn how to overcome behaviors where too many things now are so automated and buttoned down that they take the experience away.

Interesting video, in that I used to live in Woodstock Illinois, where the thumbnail picture and opening scene was recorded in downtown Woodstock Square. I’m getting a new Sahara, so I appreciate this video, which is letting me know why I didn’t need the Rubicon, especially when it comes to the miles per gallon. Speaking of that, interestingly enough, I was amazed at how good the gas mileage was when I rented a brand new 2019 Sahara with 5000 miles on it in West Palm Florida for a week. On the highway I was getting 26 mpg, 28, even 30.1 MPG! I couldn’t freaking believe it! (this was on the Florida turnpike, which is nothing but flat.) This was before I found out it had an eight speed transmission, which made sense after I found that out. But at one point I was doing 68 mph at 1800 RPMs and getting 28, 29 mpg! 😳

There are no hydraulic bump stops on a stock Jeep that I'm aware of. I will have to take a magnet but I'm pretty sure they are not alu body. Tenneco makes Rancho brand aftermarket shocks which I think you confused as OEM equipement.
