no one is talking about the E-go's double motor system. While i'd agree that the E-go looked better in this video, even if it did appear stan was favoring it. The E-go has its own motor dedicated to just the blades while the toro splits its power between blades and drive. I'd imagine this means the E-go blades have much better torque resulting in it not getting bogged down as easy in heavy grass and we conditions. The dual motor system is very smart, much like how a tesla car utilizes 2 motors, 1 for each axel. The interesting thing to see here would be the cut quality on a "normal" yard, I would guess the E-go would probably win that too, but realistically these mowers are never going to cut through grass this tall. Last thing, everyone is saying it was unfair because it wasn't the toro super recycler, while that is for sure the best toro push mower, when looking at price points the i'd say that just about the correct mowers were used, the E-go retails for ~$400, the toro super recycler is ~$550-$750, the toro recyclers are anywhere from $250-$500. Again i think the dual motors is the massively underlooked part of this video. This video certainly feels like an E-go ad but I think Stan does do a decent job showing the advantages to a fully designed electric lawn mower.
@joeblow39394 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I like many people were not aware of the two motors. Good point. I think Stan should bring this up in his next video. Thanks.
@joshanderson10194 жыл бұрын
Ego has the advantage of dual motors but come on how hard is it to push a lawnmower that only weighs 80 pounds. There is no self propulsion on my lawnmower and its not very hard to push even when going up hills.
@scotshabalam24324 жыл бұрын
Ego wins even if it's not about power. Stan covers all the things that have hacked me off at my Toro mower for years like changing deck height and always engaged blades. I'm not sure about going over to the plastic/electric side though because as annoying as my Toro is it's been kickin' for 25 years and is fixable with common parts around my workshop, a hardware store, or automotive store. Actually reliability and repair-ability are more important than features or POWER to me, fixing a mower when I need to mow the lawn is like a "chore plus a burden".
@nkth6ars4 жыл бұрын
I understand where you’re coming from about the dual motors, but the amount of torque that the drive system of the toros needs is probably next to immeasurable. It’s reduction after reduction after reduction - wheels spinning at 6000rpm would be pretty useless.
@bradleybauder90434 жыл бұрын
As far as push mowers are concerned nothing beats a Honda mower. Look at what every lawn service uses for there push mower. It's not a Toro or an Ego. That being said I have used several of the Toro models and honestly I've always been disappointed. The flat deck allows for clogging in wet, tall, or thick grass. Sucking up leaves with one of these is a complete joke. That's partly why you can never get a truly full bag... only ever 3/4.... if you're lucky. The Ego with the double blade set up in theory should bag better because the clippings are smaller allowing the bag to get more tightly packed. I bring this up because even though the Toro is mostly a mulching focused mower there are plenty of situations (especially fall clean up) where the debris from the lawn would be actually harmful to be letting lay on top. The one thing that I would be interested to see compared is battery life between the two electric models. With two moters I'd be willing to bet that the battery on the Ego is greatly hindered even though theoretically it's doing the same job. The other thing I want to know in a side by side comparison is witch has a better warranty on there batteries? Those batteries are $125+ each time they need changed. These electric models more budget friendly competitor made by Ryobi has a bad habit of eating 40 volt batteries every season or so. In addition what is the charge time on one of the batteries and how meny are included? The initial notion of ease of use typically over shadows the judgment of the long term cost of ownership and reliability of these machines. It's great that they can make there way through tall grass but at the end of the day there is so much more that needs to be compared if you truly want to get to know these machines.

Your testing methodology is flawed and therefore any comparisons. For example with the "wet grass test" starting at 17:26 you run the Toro mowers straight into the grass until the engine stops, fair enough. But then when you push the Ego through you lift the front up and down several times as you push through the grass. Appreciate the attempt and effort to put them through "real world" usage scenarios,.

The Ego will automatically send more power to the blade. Gas won't do that. The Toro battery powered doesn't have the same power as the Ego. The Ego is as good and in many cases superior to gas. @noahchiasson78094 жыл бұрын
I love the videos, but it wasn’t hard to tell that you made the ego look like a better mower. The toros got pushed through the grass faster and without the front wheels getting lifted, whereas the ego was pushed slower with lifting, significantly helping it cut the thick stuff. This is especially apparent during the thick grass test at 17:21. The two toros get pushed straight through, obviously bogging due to speed. The ego on the other hand gets lifted and dropped, allowing for the mower to “catch up” with the work load. I’ve had the awd version of the gas powered toro for about 4 years, and put in the range of 500 hours or more on it, and in that time I never once managed to bog it as demonstrated in the video

Most of the mowers I have seen for home use only run when the blades are engaged. Mowers with blade brakes that allow the engine to run without the blades being engaged are far fewer and are usually more expensive.
@markofthejt19954 жыл бұрын
When I had my toro, I just got old school and measured the blade height from the concrete. 3.5" is where I keep my lawn when I mow (when its supposed to be a good wet season), if its dry I tend to cut 4.25" on purpose to help keep the dirt moist from the thicker and taller grass.

The speed difference on the way Stan pushes these mowers onto the tall grass is on the mower. EGO has a set speed, with the Torro the harder you push the faster it wants to go. The EGO out performs the 2 Torro mowers by having 2 blades. Multiple blades reduces need hp to do the same job. Also by having a speed adjustment dial it constantly runs at the same speed vs the personal pace system.

Do they even sell a double blade set up. I personally electric 60 amp GREENWORKS PRO SERIES MOWER, BLOWER AND WEEDWACKER. The mower works about as well as the TORO models but without the self propel. Everybody thinks electric is simpler, NO, you cant do any maintenance on electrics. They're meant to be thrown out, not to last 30+ years! I dont know anybody my age who can tear a carb apart and put it back on. "What if I break something.", well just figure it out. Nobody really knows mechanics anymore, young folks are on their phones all day, and dont even know whats going on around them!!!
