How long does the perm last? And is it damaging? You should give me a perm lol!
@Savannahxo287 жыл бұрын
I have a video of “How I Perm My Hair” and it has more info :) Perms last different for every hair type. They can last anywhere from 4 weeks to a whole year. For me it’s a whole year. Perms are super damaging so I do have to do hair masks at least once a week
@beckdavis80906 жыл бұрын
6 to 8 months not more damaging than hair dye

I was curious about this video cause I have naturally ridiculously curly hair and wanted to see how it differs from having a perm and it's so interesting cause a lot of the advice in your video, naturally-curly haired girls and hair stylists would say to do the opposite. But if you're looking for a great drugstore shampoo and conditioner, I LOVE the Coconut Oil and Shea Butter Curl Shampoo and Conditioner and when I get out the shower, I use the curl cream by the same line. Its really good!

I'm 61 and last permed in the 1980s. Thank you so much for your video. The perm kit I bought had very little instructions and I couldn't remember exactly how to do it, and unsure how products have charged over time. You're video was so friendly and easy to understand unlike some that seem condescending. Thanks you for your positive happy attitude. Kindest Regards, Angie

I use Costco's Kirkland shampoo and conditioner. They're sulfate and paraben free and it's actually salon quality shampoo and it smells great. It is really affordable and you get a LOT. I've had the shampoo for like 8 months and I still have a little less than half a bottle

Is your hair crunchy after all those products? Mine is naturally curly and damn. Your perm looks extremely natural
@Savannahxo287 жыл бұрын
Nope my hair isn’t crunchy. It eventually dries down and looks better. Some people use a diffuser to dry their hair but I like to let mine air dry.

thank you so much for the advise, I permed my on hair Tuesday... I saw you brush your hair before wash...my hair feels really hard with all the mouse in wouldn't my hair brake when I brush ????? then another thing I need advise how to style my dry hair on the days I dont wash...cant wait for your reply😃😃😃
@raesour28064 жыл бұрын
Just got mine permed, but I've had a few perms done before. On non-wash days, dampen your hair with a spray bottle, and use a bit of leave in conditioner and scrunch the hair. You'll likely have residual product, so you won't need much for definition, cause you don't want to weigh the hair down with too much mousse. The dampening and scrunching will reactivate the curl, as will wrapping it in the t shirt. The leave in will soften the hair so it won't feel as gross. Hope this helped!

What kind of rods & perm did you get? And what’s your hair type? Because I got a spiral hair perm, and she put white and pink rods in my hair and it didn’t hold on the top of my head at all really. The last time I got a perm it held REALLY good all over and stayed in a little over a year.

I know this is old but I’m getting my first perm in a couple weeks and am nervous. I stumbled onto this video while I was researching. How do you style it on days you don’t wash it and it’s dry? I’m super paranoid about taking care of it right since I’ve only ever had my regular straight hair and usually just wear it straight or a pony tail cause that’s all I really can do. I’m horrible at anything to do with hair but am tired of the same old style
@conderschader41275 жыл бұрын
You do not need all these products. A friend of mine is a hairdresser and she said the Sleek and shine is about all you need. She also said a lot has to do as to whether you have hard water or soft. Hard water dries your hair out. No sulfate shampoos and conditioners too. I just got a perm Monday after years of not having one, washed it after the 48 hours, put sleek and shine on then put it through the wave curlers let it dry and go. Love it.

You should try using a really good conditioner (I use black vanilla from carols daughter) and leave it in your hair for 5 minutes and detangle in the shower with a wide tooth comb, I think that would be the best way to detangle your hair :-) your perm looks so good!

It's better to dab the hair dry after deep conditioning and rinsing out. Pulling on the hair while it is at it's dampest state will break it more easily.

I did a perm in my hair in the 80's and I can't even remember how I did it LOL. I'm now in my 60's and I'm thinking of doing another one but I'm also kind of scare as my hair is so much more unhealthy . But as I'm older I hate having to blow dry and straighten my hair all the time it gets tiresome for and old lady like me. My hair is shoulder length so about how many rods do you think I would need ?

Hairdressers will tell you brushing a perm is a big no-no. It causes breakage, big time. I am older, so I have to be even more careful with my "middle-age lady" hair. Haha. I've had a lot of perms (since I grew up in the 80's). If someone got a perm every 6-8 weeks, they would wreck their hair, I daresay. Yikes! That said, thanks for the info on the video. :) My favorite product line I've found for my perms is Marc Anthony Strictly Curls. There's a between-wash spray of theirs that makes the hair super duper soft! I did find the Coconut Curls by OGX shampoo is great for removing build-up.

I loveee your hair!! Do you dye your hair too? I would love to get a perm but I box dye my hair black (I know hairdressers cringe at box dyes) but I'm wondering how damaging it would be to box dye and perm. Would love your thoughts :)
@Savannahxo286 жыл бұрын
I’ve never dyed my hair. But from what I’ve read and what people tell me is that perming dyed hair can be super damaging. I mean it would probably still work but I’ve never dyed and then permed. Do some more research and maybe ask a few hair dressers for better thoughts :)

@Coolg016 жыл бұрын
Straight hair is boring and can be unflattering to the face. Curls soften features and add width to longer face shapes or harsh jawlines. You can also go much longer without washing it. It doesn't get greasy as quickly. Also most straight hair isn't entirely straight and can have a wave that flips out from the head like mine and I think it looks stupid on myself.
@kariroegge21974 жыл бұрын
Jelex you are so right! My hair is in between straight and wavy, I never really know what’s going on with it.
