Robbie, I am a brand new player, but an old dude. I would like to see a video on the best way to warm up before a round or tournament. I didn't see that in your playlist so just point at it if you already did it. Thanks, I am learning a ton from you and enjoy your excitement and style.

Nice. And I guess that’s why they say throwing just mid-ranges and putters for rounds may make you score better too.

From Inverness here (S otland) to Inverness there (US). Just played a round with a different mindset. Good results and I can see how having your tee shot not as a traditional throw as far as you can with a hope of being closest to the basket can help. Keep giving us this content. ❤

Great tips. My mental game battle I'd like to see discussed: How to stay positive and engaged when playing difficult courses or longer layouts where birdies are extremely rare. When throwing good shots only gets you 60-80 ft looks at birdie. Any tips other than just "throw farther?" Thanks!

I just play those courses for par, look at how many pros play rounds over par, on the tough courses par is a good score

Think of those kinda courses as attacking you where you need to weather the onslaught and focus on surviving knowing the longer you go without bogeys that more and more players are falling victim to the courses as you survive
@bernan1

Too many try for birdies off the tee instead of just parring. Even if the hole is playing well over par in a tourney. Often on courses you're talking about, par is good, and strokes on the field. Playing for par often opens up birdie chances to where playing for birdie off the tee can lead to doubles and triple bogies.

Love the advice, Robbie. In ball golf I was told over and over "manage the course". At the time (much younger) I didn't listen. I'm trying to learn that now in disc golf. Thanks for the reminder!

I agree with everything you’re saying, however, in my opinion, there’s nothing more deflating than making the smart pitch out to a flat, open area only to wack a treesus on the next shot. If I’m being honest I’d rather go for the hero shot and at best get lucky and be a hero or at worst miss completely and have my lie as an excuse. That being said, not being greedy from the tee is very applicable to me. That line of thinking would have saved me at least 2-3 strokes in my last tournament. I thank you good sir.

Words of wisdom, that I needed on Hole 7 of a local course, where I got greedy and took a quad bogey instead of a single just trying to hero shot after a first available tee shot. The best, thanks RobbieC!!!

Loved this one. A very good illustration of how you can successfully navigate tough holes. They don't all have to be 2's. A large percentage of the time, a 3 on this hole is gaining you strokes on your card and probably the field.

Great video and advice which spoke to my game quite well. Looking over my rounds, I get very very greedy off the tee. I recently had a round with 8 strokes of bogeys/double bogeys and 8 birdies because I’m always going for the green. Definitely going to dial it back on the problematic holes to hopefully improve my score.

I played a tournament at a pretty infamously brutal course this weekend. I played the entire weekend for par and it was the shots where I got greedy and aggressive off of a botched first available that I took the biggest numbers. Mental stayed strong and I was able to come back from my doubles with pars or a rare birdie, but I wish I had kept the gameplan of “be smooth and play smart” once off the tee because I was tunneled on saving the par.

At least twice during a tournament this weekend. I knew I had missed the basket and put it in the water during a practice round and I was in a similar situation (not once but twice) during the round and I told myself, just put the putter next to the basket take your 4, but this is not a bad putt, I make it 9 times out of 10, yes but if you miss, it's a 5, not a 4.. I had the discussion "twice" and still went for the basket each time and guess what, tournament, a bit of extra pressure and ya, right into the water for a 5.... So I totally get it!!

I would love to hear your perspectives on this scenario: 380ft hole. Nothing in the way, just a open feild.. screw up my drive and land about 80 ft from the basket. Easy pitch to the put. I shank my BERG way left or drive it way to far EVERY TIME. I don't generally struggle with approaching, it's just this open basket with nothing in my way that is messing with my head i think.

I think I'd have to throw a quad copter to go 320 ft, but this is still useful advice. I've been asking myself this sort of question since you mentioned evaluating the smart play in a previous video, and it's helping when I can settle down and realize a shot that needs luck has as much chance of making things worse as not. Thanks!

This is great. I’ve been using this mindset it tournaments this season with upshot’s and putts. What my struggle has been is whether or not to use this mindset when it comes to putts that are inside circle 2. Whether to actually run it or just a soft run with the hopes that it’ll go in but more than likely chain out or hit the cage and drops. Which then leads to just taking par when really I need to get the birdie. Is this then scenario based? (when it comes to putts)

My max distance as of right now is around 310, however when I throw my good ol' Lizottle. In which I have thrown 300 feet as well on a level field, is this the gyro spin taking into effect? I generated a lot of snap, might not be throwing it hard but generating a ton of spin?

Well, dang it all. I meant to check my 'Greed or Need' level the next time I played and I forgot. Well, at least for most of the course. I wish I had done it though, it probably would have saved me some strokes. On the hole where I finally remembered it (too late though...the hole was completed), there are two mandos off the tee. First a double mando that you have to go between and then a single mando you have to go under. They are fairly close together and the 'missed the mando' drop zone is between the double mando. I've made the mandos twice ... but missed left way more times. If I had done the 'Greed or Need', I would have realized, that for me, going for the mandos was Greed. I should have laid up between the double mando. Then the single mando would have been easy to get under and I'd have saved at least one stroke. But no.....I went for glory and missed the double mando left. Hopefully the next time out I remember to consider the 'Greed or Need' of each throw/putt.

Cut the hole in pieces approach is a traditional golf strategy. It's a great way of thinking about the big picture. And definitely useful to learn to throw long putter shots. But Konner needed to stick with what he knew on the first tee. Tough time to reframe his entire approach.

Much easier said than done, but I've got some words for you. The only ONLY shot that matters, is the one you're on right now. Trying to think on a macro/whole round scale in the middle of your round is just bound to fuck you up. If you're on hole 5 and thinking that because you bogeyed the first two holes you have to get aggressive here, you've fucked up. The best shot for you is completely independent of anything that came before it, even if that means taking a double or triple or whatever. Evaluate your position from a clean slate, every single time. I like to distract my monkey brain by looking at trees, rocks, playing the dirt, listening to the leaves in the wind, ya know, 5 year old kid stuff, but it works.

Great vid. (planting feathers? ;)) On tough holes, too many try to birdie from the tee instead of simply going for par and taking strokes on the field. Par 4? split 3 shots up to make C1 for an easy putt for par. Bonus? Sometimes in playing that way (actually more often than one might think) a birdie possibility shows itself. It can also be about discing down for more control. There's a hole on my fav course that's narrow. Even MPO's usually only take about a 7 speed at most on it as they don't want the skip. Some take mids..which, with a bigger arm is still birdy-able. But it's a par 4 (toughest hole on the course). When I see someone pull out a higher speed disc I think, thanks for the strokes...and then get ready to help them find their disc in the bushes on either side of the fairway they've skipped into. It's a separator hole that doesn't need to be one, really. Bogey is fine, but if you go double or more, which some do, one clearly played the hole wrong.
