I love that a collection of videos was made and posted of Khanyisa’s journey. She and her new family (human and pachyderm) have a lot to teach us, especially the younger generations: compassion, education about elephants, wildlife conservation and rescue, the painful realities of poaching, resilience and overcoming adversity, acceptance and the fact that being “different” is actually a beautiful thing... I hope her story encourages people to help wildlife however they are able.

The man who is always protecting Khanyisa “Sunshine” from the sun’s UV rays is so sweet and loving! This helps because Khanyisa is an Albino. With such fair skin, Albinos have such a high risk of getting sunburns which can easily lead to skin cancer. Jabulani really took notice of Khanyisa from the first very first “herd” meeting at the fence! I went back and looked several times and saw that it definitely WAS Jabulani, who was found 23 years back being in a similar situation as Khanyisa, who was so very excited to meet her. Elephants are SO BEAUTIFUL! They are extremely intelligent and treat one another very lovingly like humans treat their own family members. The fact that Lundi took Khanyisa in kind of like an adoptive mother, all the while letting her suckle on her nipple, just goes to show how loving and compassionate elephants can be! Seeing Khanyisa “running” over to Lundi and Jabulani in the last update was just SO BEYOND HEARTWARMING TO WATCH!!! Love from Texas ♥️🤠🌴

Can elephants _get_ skin cancer? I know they _aren't_ able to get internal cancers due their 'zombie gene' that turns cancer cells inside out to stop it. Thus. haulting the development of cancers to start to metastasize. _However,_ don't think that the scientists that did that research factored in 'albinism', as it wasn't mentioned. 😆😆 If you're interested in a little bit of elephant biology, may I recommend a 'rabbit hole' full of interesting facts & knowledge for you? (I fell down this hole once _myself._ It's honestly why I posted my comment 😊) Google search 'elephant zombie gene'. 'Why elephants can't get cancer gene'. Apparently, evolution helped out these big guys in a _huge_ way. People are looking at how it all works, trying to see if we humans have a gene like that we can turn on. _Fascinating_ stuff really. If you wanna chat about it as you learn stuff or find out something amazing, please let me know! 😉☕ Anyway this is getting long (sorry bout that), hope your beautiful Texas isn't too hot for you. August in Atlantic Canada this year _sucked._ Super cold?!? Had to _remove_ the AC out of our windows... in AUGUST! That's unheard of. Have yourself a great day. If you want let me know how your searching goes? 🤗🇨🇦

They are absolutely wonderful BUT like humans they can have moods and jealousies and can bully each other on occasion. I saw a video of a large adult bull pushing around a very small young elephant a while back and the narrator made note of his doing that and of the mother moving her baby away from that bull to keep it safe so it not all roses and lollipops. Still for the most part they are very inclusive and loving in general and the females of all ages act as nannies and overseers of the younger elephants too and help to raise them. It is a pretty amazing society overall.

The first part of this video where Khanyisa was drinking from the water trough was emotional for me. I forward the video when her injury is shown, can't look knowing the pain that she went through. Nothing is better than being close to nature. Life is beautiful. We get so caught up in the plastic parts of the world, most of us forget to enjoy what is right there. It is most definitely the small things that mean the most. (At least to me.) Wish I had known that my entire life. I didn't realize the importance until I was 32. So much missed out on and taken for granted over the years. Oh well. The past is just that. I am a different and better person. At least I've grown.

Khanyisa is such a pretty pink baby! Oh my God, why would anyone want to hurt her? Thank you to her carers , Vet and everyone involved in her rescue and rehabilitation. She is getting all the love she deserves.

That cannot be an easy job trying to keep an umbrella over her. She had soooo much fun in the water of the dam. You have to sacrifice so much trying to take the place of her mother. You were lucky to have such a large support team so you could take turns. It’s very unusual for a male to befriend a baby. Ludi understood babysitting and getting treats. You can see her caring

I love animals soooooo much! Seeing this makes me cry tears of joy at how happy she is. I hope she lives a long and healthy life. She's so darn cute I just want to hug and kiss her and play with her.
