I wonder if tesla knew it was an easy fix, but suggested the inefficient 16k cost instead. And if Tesla has a committee that can be shown this. How low cost effective solutions like this are happening. I wonder what they'll say when shown this, will they STILL say just change the battery anyway even after seeing this easy inexpensive solution? Alot of videos like this about tesla are being watched everyday, increasing consumer awareness about cost charges.

Something similar happened with my Ford Fusion Hybrid. I wasn't mentally prepared to spend ~$100 on four coolant lines. Instead, I spent $8 on some plumbing fittings at Home Depot, and now everything is up and running. I noticed that many people in the US believe that the only way to fix such issues is to buy a new part. However, often, you could fix it for cheap, and the final result will be more reliable than the original solution. Well done, sir.

Apples and oranges... from this point on, if the battery fails and causes damage to person and/or property the owner is totally liable.

@@daves2624 only if it can be proved that the repair work was responsible for any injury. In this case the repair work will clearly work under 'normal' conditions . It may fail with another smack but no sooner than the original did. The only issue i would have with that repair is the brass fitting. We don't know what the long term effects of that on the coolant will be plus if that fitting was plastic I would have used a plastic weld to reconnect everything making it more permanent and possibly stronger. But either way its 'probably' good.

But I doubt it would get over heat even on freeway driving with ambient air temp at 120*F. I am happy with that repair.

Great video! I’m a bit concerned about one part of the repair, though. You mentioned the coolant line won't take more than 1 bar (15 psi), but according to the coolant refill manual, it needs to be pressurized to 5.5 bars (80 psi). I’m not sure if the threaded plastic can handle that much pressure. What’s your take on this? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
@dotancohen5 күн бұрын
An additional concern would be the restriction. It's a small restriction to be sure, but in a very highly engineered system it might be significant under some conditions. Such as max A/C on a hot day, or possibly max heating on a cold day, or extended high speed or acceleration, or any number of extreme scenarios.

@timc.91127 күн бұрын
@@steveowsley6475 Hello. It's been a long time since I posted that. The final verdict ended up being reasonable and not my worst nightmare of having the entire battery pack replaced. It was the front Aero shield that was damaged. Fortunately the battery pack was unscathed. The coolant hose came loose as a result and began leaking so I was scared it was directly coming from the pack. The techs did say they bent some parts back (clips?) to allow it to work and not have to replace the whole pack. They did a full leak test and it passed. However, they asked me to return one week later so they can conduct another leak test just to be safe. I did and it was fine. I didn't have to pay for that. In the end for parts and labor I paid just a total of $469.28! What a relief that was.
