Absolutely would be very interested in buying that Jeep from you. We have 3 WJ's in the family already and love them. Unfortunately my son's 2001 with a 4.0 just gave up the ghost with a little over 300,000 miles on it. Chunks of piston skirts in the oil Pan. Looking for a really nice replacement for him.

Another clean WJ find! I always found it odd they never offered white as a paint option for the Overland... probably would have been popular in the southern states.
@TylerPotter Жыл бұрын
That is true I hadn't ever thought of that but I guess I haven't ever seen a white overland. Thanks for the view!

I would be interested in seeing your perspective view on the A/C fix. I know there's other videos out there but not from a detailed Jeep mechanic as yourself.

Very clean WJ I wouldve recently rescued a WJ with a 5 cylinder turbo diesel...father in law sold it for $600. If id known it was going for that cheap, i wouldve definitely purchased it

Amazing deal when looking underneath (we salt our roads up in Ottawa, ON) the v8 on those was thirsty but that will be a tank for someone for a long time
@TylerPotter Жыл бұрын
Yes other than the fuel tank skid plate being rustier than it should be for some reason it is really clean underneath. Thanks for the view!

Thanks Mate for keeping the WJ's on the road and trails. You'll be happy to know among our Jeep collection I've got a '99 Laredo 4.0L that is a keeper and I am obsessive with maintenance. Keep up the good work and info.

That’s a nice looking wj. Had the 1999 4.0 that was my grandmothers, then became my moms then my brothers lol and eventually it was mine. I wrecked it not too long ago being stupid with 300,000 miles on the odometer

Thanks so much for savin the WJs!! Keep up the good work. I'm also savin a WJ myself right now, putting head gaskets in an '04 Limited 4.7! 🙂 Love these trucks😍

I have been there many of times! Glad to hear another one isn't going to the junk yard!
@southwestvajeeper5106 Жыл бұрын
🙂👍Quick question for you on that head job, too. I watched one of your head gasket videos but didn't get a clear answer. Is it possible to pull the heads without pulling the timing cover? It seems like it would be...but what do you do to keep the timing chains from falling down into the motor? Thanks!
@TylerPotter Жыл бұрын
@@southwestvajeeper5106 yes there is a special tool that is a wedge to hold the timing chains so the head can be pulled
@southwestvajeeper5106 Жыл бұрын
OK awesome, never heard of that before. I guess I need one tool per bank? (Maybe that's a very obvious question but I'm just making sure)

I have been eyeing a 2001 Limited at a dealership. How do you know if it’s an Up Country? I ran the VIN and there is nothing on the build sheet indicating Up Country. I LOVE these older GCs. I also really like your WJ videos, please keep saving them.

Hi Tyler, as always love your videos! I see that this WJ has the sunroof. Have you ever had to repair a sunroof on a WJ? Do you know if anyone either repairs the mechanism or can supply new parts? Reason for my question: I just replaced my failed sunroof with a ( luckily ) good one from the salvage yard. Successful installation, it now works perfectly. On my old one the mechanism failed where the cables attach to the glass panel carrier. Snapped the plastic brackets clean off! I examined and serviced the replacement carefully, and I find the whole assembly a bit fragile. So, I will keep it closed except during the summer, when I pop it open to vent and leave it there.
@TylerPotter Жыл бұрын
I really don't think I have had any issues with WJ sunroofs yet, so far they have been pretty durable. Glad you were able to find a good one in the salvage yard. Thanks for the view!

I need a tow vehicle to replace my current vehicle. I'd love your thoughts about this vehicle towing a 3,500-pound trailer. Any idea of the asking price? I had a 1998 5.9 as a tow vehicle and I loved it. Very interested...
@chrisogilvie2230 Жыл бұрын
I think it depends on how you will tow: Long uphill grades at freeway speeds? Or more flat terrain with short climbs? My perspective: Purchased my 2002 4.7 WJ in 2018 specifically as a towing vehicle for a roughly 2000 lb T@B trailer. I live on the West Coast ( SF Bay Area ) and all out of state travel involves getting over high mountain passes with long grades. Our WJ has performed just fine in our use. Main towing limitation on long grades of more than say 7% is not the engine, but the shift points on the 545RFE transmission. It has a large gap between top and second gear, so it either struggles to stay at say 55 mph in top gear or races in 2nd. I like to keep it then at 45 mph in 2nd. AND, I always tow with the overdrive disabled! On the transmission issue: I used to have a 1989 Cherokee XJ with the 4.0 six and manual 5 speed transmission. Towing over the mountains was just fine, whereas buddies that had one with the automatic transmissions were NOT happy. Personally, I would pick a diesel pickup truck for a larger and heavier trailer for mountain freeway towing, preferably with a manual transmission.

Question for you: Do you have an opinion on transfer case options? Is the 4hi/4low transfer case a good option ? Or is this a transfer case to stay away from??
@TylerPotter Жыл бұрын
My friends and I have all swapped to the (242 and 242HD) Select trac transfercases with the 2hi/4part time/4full time/and 4 low. The (247J) quarda trac and quadra drive 4hi and 4 low tcases work fine but the clutches are getting pretty worn at this point in there life and are almost all just outputing power to the rear wheels in the 4hi position but when shifted into 4low the drive shafts are locked together so they still work fine when off-roading. Thanks for the view!

Embarrassing story about always having a different WJ in the house - the other day we were meeting someone at a gas station to sell something on FB Marketplace. I told the buyer we were in a mauroon Jeep Grand Cherokee (this is the color of Tyler's main Jeep that we've had the longest). We kept seeing this car circle around the parking lot like they were looking for someone. Tyler asked me what color I told them our Jeep was. I replied Mauroon. He said this Jeep is white! Oops! I felt so dumb having to message the buyer that I meant White Jeep instead of Mauroon! In my defense it we've had every WJ color available and it's hard to keep up 😂
