I started growing cherry trees about 5 and 1/2 years ago, I have 29, cherry trees. Of different varieties, I started them all from seeds. From Sherry's I ate bought from the store. I live in Washington State, I had a couple cherry trees that didn't do so well for a Time, but now they are thriving. It always had to do something with the soil, thank you for the video I appreciate it. I also have started apricot trees I have three, and I have six avocados trees.

I picked up acorns, put a wet paper towel with them in a zip-loc bag sat them in refrigerator. Quite a few days later the roots started growing, not all but enough. They are Live Oaks, planted them in small pots. They grew, then into bigger pots. After a few months planted them. I killed one of them by using Miracle Grow on one, the rest got nothing but water, all are doing well. My Dad use to use root Stimulator worked well

So, how are your cherry trees doing now. I found your video. I just transplanted one of the two cherry trees I just bought. Sadly I damaged a lot of the roots when pulling it out of the dang pot. It was the sixth tree I planted this spring but this was the only one messed up. I'd say I lost about a third of the roots maybe up to half of them. Just put it in the ground today so it hasn't showed symptoms of being shocked but I expect I will soon. Just wondering if the root growth stuff helped at all. thanks

Uggghh literally 18 hours later the leaves are all drooping. Hopefully in the next few days it will show some signs of life. But the shock is severe and I suspect it won't be able to grow the roots fast enough to deal with the shock and losing probably 30 - 40 percent of it's roots.

@@SleekMouse my lapis is doing great. My crimson cherry is still alive and doing just OK. It was rough. First the root damage and the shock. Then FL heat and humidity and cherry leaf spot. Then June bugs and canker. I did folier spraying and babies it thru the summer. It recovered from the shock. But was weak and got canker that I burned and cut out. Major scarring to the trunk from that. This spring it leafed out fine. I've sprayed properly and controlled the cherry leaf spot. I think the canker is gone. It has put on some growth and the Cambrian layer is slowly closing around the trunk. Keeping the tree to help it pollinate the lapins. Maybe it will produce someday but it has had a rough start. This year has been much better. The Lapins looks great it only had typical transplant shock. In the last month I'm seeing a larger difference in the health of the leaves. On the lapis they still look fresh while on the crimson royal leaves are now curling a bit in places. I also painted the trunks white. I think that helped a lot with the shock. For shock paint the trunks; shade it if you can at the hottest part of day, folier spray once or twice in the evening. Daconil and captain sprays in rotation, and root stimulator doesn't hurt. Also when planting make sure to loosen the surround soil really good. And Do NOT mix compost with the soil in your planting hole. Tree trunk protectors of you have cats. Those are the tricks I used to nurse it along.

@@johns6704 Thank you for this great detailed reply. I have a fungicide and a root stimulator on the way now. My cherry is actually considered a cherry bush I guess. idk maybe its a graft. The leaves have dark green spots and are turning yellow and falling off. It could still be transplant shock I think. But also symptoms of fungal are possible so i'm trying to spray asap before it dies!! Is there a foliar spray you recommend? I saw some Kelp stuff from GS plant foods. I already have liquid fish from them. Would you use that?
@johns6704
@johns6704 3 жыл бұрын
@@SleekMouse So when I had to foliar spray I would use 2 tablespoons of Alaska Kelp and 2 tablespoons of Alaska Fish Emulsion per gallon. I suspect you can use the GS plant food just the same. Alaska no longer makes their Kelp product so you won't be able to find that one. The main thing is to spray just after the sun goes down cause I think the leaves supposedly open up and receive the nutrients better at that time. Either that or just before the sun comes up which might be even better. Also be careful not to overwater. I bought one of those gages you stick in the ground to help me judge when to water. The other tip I forgot is to mulch a bit also. That protects the roots from the heat. I'd say 2 to 3 inches. Make sure your soil drains well. From what I've heard cherries do not like to sit in water very long. When I do water the tree I either use a drip hose or set my hose nozzle on mist and just leave the water on for about 20-30 minutes. That allows the soil to soak up the water instead of the water sort of just running off or down into channels. I don't know why but here in North Florida you can spray the water from the hose for 10 minutes. Then dig down half an inch and find the soil is just dry. Its like the water finds a few places to sink into the ground and it just goes there. But if you water slowly the entire soil will soak up water. I think it just takes time for the water to displace the air in the soil. So fast watering doesn't do much other than waste your water. I've heard of those cold weather cherry tree bushes but don't know much about them. I'm in Florida trying to give a few low chill cherry trees a go. This last year I managed to get one blossom on the Lapins. I will know more about the viability in another year or two. I think we get enough chill but I suspect production will still be low. But I will find out. If I had to plant these again I'd give them a bit more partial shade. While they are doing fine now I think the partial shade would give them extra chill hours during the winter. But I suspect that isn't an issue for you.

The tree ended up dieing later on because it's very hard to grow cherries here in east Texas. It's just too hot here in the summer and not enough chill hours in the winter.

Planting 4 cherry trees I've had in pots for a year; they're starting to leaf out now and I'm going to put them in the ground...using the Ellen White method as you prescribed...I have hard clay that looks just like what you do; and I've planted 4 cherry trees in the past (just into clay soil) that died rapidly. Anything you'd suggest to do improve success for this tree with your experience?
