UPDATE: kzbin.info5aXU33rCGXU A little side note: From time to time I get comments saying they always cringe whenever I cut anything on orchids, or they look away.. and well I can understand that, but it really isn't helping your orchid at all. So here's some comedic relief to help out: imagine a doctor saying to their patient after surgery 'Well Bob, I won't lie, at first I was squeamish to make the incision, it was seriously cringey, but I closed my eyes and, to everyone's delight, I managed to do a good job!' not something you'd like to hear from a doctor right? :)) things happen, orchids need help and we're the only ones to help them. So don't close your eyes, forget about cringing and make that cut, you can do it! 💪

Oh Danny- I have to thank you because I thought my dendrodium nobile had died. It was just a stick(still is) I was about to throw it away then I saw you video where you show how to cross your fingers and hope a miracle happens. And is happening for me!!!! There is a tiny keiki coming out. I put cinnamon on the open cut and just placed it with my other dendrodiums in bark. This is my favorite white and orange dendrodium. Wish I could share a picture with you. Thank you again.

Hi Danny, I’m very glad that I find you. I’m following you for some time(3 years ago) on KZbin I have a question about keikis. I had a mother plant that after blooming and surviving two summers ago, had an a spike keiki. I was waiting until the roots of this keiki were big enough to be transplanted. So an other summer passed but the roots did grow much. So I decided to cut it off and transplanted it. As soon as I transplanted it, the mother plant died. An a few weeks after transplantation, the keiki produced two keikis more🎉 But since then the roots aren’t growing at all. So my concern is, how to proceed in this situation? The are 3 baby’s in one plant with only 4 roost, the longer one is maybe 4 cm long, the next ist 2cm long an the other 3 are approx 1.5 cm long And one of the baby’s inside of the original babyplant and the other one is growing from the side of the “mother keiki” But the are no signs of more roost growing to try an other transplant. What do you think?

I’m new at raising an orchid. No clue what I’m doing wrong. I’ve watched and followed all your beginner videos on orchids. The leaves look amazing. A nice green color. It’s the root system I’m concerned about. It seems like the roots keep dying even though I’ve trimmed off the squishy parts and repotted it.

Hey Dani, Great video, I have a similar issue. I have an orchid that produced a kekie over my climates winter. When I brought them outside the mother plant began to wither and die. The kekie never produced its own roots, and instead, it decided to continue to use the mother plants remaining roots. Well, after it received a few leaves (4) it began to look as if it wasn’t receiving ample water. I uprooted the kekie and the system looks healthy, but it seems it has been frozen in time. It hasn’t grown any new roots nor leaves in 2 months nor has it produced any new roots since the mother plant ceased to be. Any tips or suggestions, I took a photo but realized I can’t post it here.

Hi Danni, I love these videos for tips and advice. I have a keiki at the moment with a totally dead mother plant(including roots) I have no removed from original flower spike yet. It is growing a third leaf and has 4 small roots that 1 is able to absorb water (2cm). It appears that the keiki is trying to grow a flower spike as the new growth looks pointed not like a new root. Do you have any extra tips for me to try to save this baby? Is there a way I can stop the flower spike from progressing so that the keiki can try to develop and grow bigger first?

One year ago, I travelled to Hawaii and purchased an Orchid (Cattleya). Since then, I've purchased 3-miniature/dwarf Phalaenopsis. Recently, they lost their blooms but the leaves and spikes became very dark green and now I have multiple new Orchid leaves growing from the spikes. Should I cut the spikes and replant them into moss to try to propagate the babies? If not, how should I get these babies started? Or can it be done? I have pictures but I don't know how to upload or send them. BTW, I bought 3-plants, 2 spikes/plant and there are 3-babies per spike. Any suggestions?

I have a question - I have a Phalaenopsis that I repotted a week ago. Before that, it had lost all of his flowers except one, but has a new spike growing next to that flower and a new leaf. After repotting, the flower started dying off and the stem started to brown. I cut the stem with the flower about a centimeter above the point where the new spike and the flower meet. Now I see that the stem keeps browning down below the spike (which is still green), and I'm not sure what to do. I'm afraid it will die as well, and then I will have no more stems. The leaves seem healthy and the roots were fine when I repotted. I'm assuming there's some stunt in growth due to the repotting, but I want to make sure it will survive.
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I think you refer to a secondary branch, sprouting from the main flower stem? Phals can sometimes try to branch yes, but don't worry if the entire flower spike dries out to the base, it's normal. The orchid is entering her active growth period and will rebloom again probably in winter. Check this tutorial out on reblooming kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGGyepWOoJKDrc0
