Saving Research Bonuses For Later - Hoi4

Note: This may have been patched since this video came out. I can't find a patch note for it but it doesn't work all the time either
Honestly, I thought this got removed from the game that's why I didn't mention it in the previous video.
The main criticism of not delaying 4 year plan is not being able to use the bonuses on 1939 or later tech. This video goes over how to do that in singleplayer and multiplayer. The timing is quite tight in mp but still possible. Also go over how ahead of time penalty stacks up over time and show you that hard research at from the beginning of the game is not worth it.

Good vid, but it has to be said; what a garbage mechanic of the game. Maybe just add a checkbox if you want to use a bonus or not? It might be strong, but is it fun?

In Elwolf, Germany gets a decision for 2 x 100% research bonus for AT, can be used whenever. I heard an argument for saving it for the last 2 techs, I've also heard that you should use it for the very first upgrade because that's the most ahead of time tech so the bonus has the biggest impact. Which strat gets to high velocity gun 3 first?

If you started hard researching from the beginning of the game, using the bonuses for the last 2 techs will get you it 184 days sooner than using it for the first 2 techs. You will however be 296 days behind on getting at2.

@@71Cloak Hmm, timing might be more important in that case. Though really you care about AHVG for Soviets, France mostly dies to air power.

Do you think any of the industry tech is worth hard researching/bonus ahead of time? Like tools, construction or industry. If so, which ones do you like to hard research in general? I know construction II is usually a common one, but would you hr Construction III or possibly even IV?

Production efficiency cap is the one worth rushing the most. Higher production efficiency has the highest impact on factory output. Construction tech is probably the one that I rush the least. Often times I'll have 1941 tech in the other 2 but only 1939 in construction. The bonuses just aren't that impactful at the higher levels. Going from 45% construction speed to 55% only takes 3 days off building a civ. Whereas going from 15% to 25% takes off 5 days.

There are loopholes in stealing industry. Even if you are a dense industry, don't study it first and then steal it. If you study your industry when the task is almost completed, you will get two studies. The effect of the study is a 30% bonus instead of 15%

Simply put, you have studied industrial technology twice, which is equivalent to having studied industrial technology four times

What would you say is a reasonable amount of months to start ahead of time? I tend to start the bigger techs between 6-12 months early. With research bonus maybe around 18 months or so

Depends on when you need it. France would probably start at research at the beginning of the game anyways or after 1 industry tech.

I found out for arty and industry max 1 year, support equipment 6-8 m, airforce/tanks 1y4m, navy dont care if you had one you reaserch what you need to improve with navy exp, if not before you build you dont have much more too research. This all is without any boosts and in singleplayer.. With every 100% boost ad 1y to it. I didnt caculate all of that but from my expiriance this work decetly well.

Researching the research bonuses ahead of time is not worth it. I made the calculation. I didn't consider ahead of times of

@@ruukinen It is self-evident you get less research total by researching ahead of time (vs only researching on time), that has never been the question. The question is whether being ahead of time on tech is worth having less tech researched - good luck "making the calculation" on that.

@@BlurbFish Yeah but for research bonuses in particular you can calculate it since you are paying research and in return get research. I didn't take a hard stance on other research since getting fighter 3s early is probably worth losing out on some non essential stuff but like you said can't really calculate that easily. In the calculation I made if you tech a medium cost research (computing) 2 years ahead of time you would only have it for 309 days compared to someone who didn't. Now that's still almost a year worth of production but someone who only techs it one year ahead of time you are only ahead of 100-150~ days. Ahead of time is really expensive.

Just had a thought, what if research slots were tied to amount of civilian factories or economy policy. Which would make sense for US having so much whereas Germany would always be lagging behind unless they could get the Soviet industry

If i remember correctly, thats how research was in HOI2, the better your industry and economy was, the better research you did, since research companies also required money in that game

you can pen most tanks with AA 2 and you start with AA as france. its better to get AA2 as you can pen and get benefits of ruining Germanys cas damage
