Some of my favourite Hoyas rotted this week, some dry rot and some wet . It’s so disheartening

Thank you for making this, getting root rot makes me feel sooooo bad as an anthurium grower but it brings me comfort knowing that everyone goes through this 🥲 some of my anthuriums HATED my new potting mix so I’m in the process of rehabbing a few

I have been having fantastic luck with a mix of tree fern, pumice, pon, perlite, worm castings, orchid bark (repti-bark is what I use) I haven’t added any “soil” to my mix and they have been 3:31 rooting like mad, I mean, I repot and have to repot within a month so I am going up 2 pot sizes now to try to help slow how many times I have to repot. I live in Virginia, US. The humidity holds good in the roots from what I have seen. I use clear pots to keep a check on the roots. I want to add that I use once a week when I water (I have to water some in the middle of the week and don’t use it) Nurture System 1 and 2, Superthrive Nutrients, Impello Dune Monosilic Acid, Great White mycorrhizae

Hi Alice. I did notice my anthurium seeds rooting and growing a lot faster when i sprinkle a little mycorrhiza on them.

You don’t necessarily have to bury the anthurium deeper as more aerial roots grow at the top. I cut a small clear plastic cup down the side and put it around the top as a moss collar. This helps to redirect the new roots into the pot and prevent them from drying out. 😊

About 2 weeks ago, also due to rotting, I moved some anthuriums to a mixture of tree fern and chunky perlite. And new roots exploded 🤩 Later I`ll grow them in a mixture of tree fern, perlite and bark. Maybe I'll add some chopped sphagnum and charcoal.

I use the coarse #4 perlite, leca balls, coco coir, coco husks, charcol, and it was large sized charcoal, and orchiatta , which is tiny. Should I look for larger orchiatta ? I’m also thinking of adding tree fern fiber because my muc is so dry and doesn’t seem to hold any moisture at all. Water just runs out the pot. It’s not compacted or hydro phobic. I can water it one day and the next day I can barely feel that it’s been watered. And the second day after I need to water again.

Hey I was just wondering where you get your clear plant pots from
@lisaanglim95882 күн бұрын
I have one of those anthurium that you see in grocery stores. The one that have red or orange flowers. It’s quite lanky and the stem is about 6 inches between the lowest branches and the soil. I think 🤔 yes too tall to pot lower in my pot. Can I cut it off and just put the top in water to root it. Then would the bottom sprout another top? I’d like to fix it so it’s not so floppy. I don’t think I can use those Rousseau pot extenders. I’d some how how need to use two stacked onto of each other. And it doesn’t have any roots growing above he soil. Any suggestions?

I’ve decided to get one anthurium. It’s a pallidiflorum. I just need to find one.

I have a rotting besseae aff X lux seedling that I'm so upset about 😢 I don't usually have good luck saving plants from rot but I'm trying so hard for that one 🫠

fluvial stratum and a humidity dome usually save my life!

@ I don't use stratum, but I've set it up in perlite and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to save it 🥲

@@ThatGirlShelbyytry moss with a humidity dome. I water with my fertilizer mix to moisten when needed even at the start to dampen the moss. I do add either great white or a rooting hormone on the bottom on the plant before I stick it in the spag moss. I have saved 3 anthurium seedlings with this, a Burle Marx flame, and a Spiritis Sancti. I live in Virginia with a humidity under 45 but I do supplement my plant room to reach 65-75% and the heat is between 72-77 in the room
@ThatGirlShelbyy3 күн бұрын
@ that's what caused the rot to begin with, was moss and high humidity :( I applied rooting hormone before I put it into perlite. I live on the east coast of canada so it's really cold outside and very low humidity because it's winter. I have large ziplock bags for some plants that need higher humidity, and my seedlings and small plants that need higher are in a weatherstripped akerbar cabinet sitting between 60-80%, and room temps are typically always between 20-25C (68-77F). All my other seedlings are fine, but the bess aff x lux was slower growing and then stopped entirely so I checked it and found the rot. Really hoping the perlite helps. Tried re-rooting in water and don't trust moss for that one again.

@@ThatGirlShelbyy keep us updated! i have also bought a tiny bag of tree feen fiber off of amazon before (US) so like a quart for $15, mix some perlite in and put the seedling in a parfait cup with a lid and also in my akerbar green house. i only put a little water in their and the humidity keeps it moist! good luck!
