If you want to put a unit on a wall after you've break the door in a siege, you just have to select the unit and click on the ladder you want them to use, otherwise they will always pathfind through the door.

I would like to see a part two as well, mainly because I really like to see your game play. I learned very very valuable ways of playing from watching you as of late, and you have given me the confidence to move up from "Normal" difficulty. Also, I happen to be in the midst of a dwarf game right now and let me tell ya....slayers are not worth the time :(. They have no armor, aren't really fast enough to catch anything, have no shields, and have no mass due to a rather loose formation setup, oof.

I don’t like legendary difficulty in Warhammer. It’s too stat based making many units simply obsolete. It’s no longer tactics based and things like cavalry or flanking don’t do anything like they used too.

@MarshalRumble plus goblins at base stats are decent. They are stronger than peasants, reflect 55 percent of missile fire, and usually come back after being routed. Play a Skarsnik campaign and you'll see how useful goblins can be

Well then, do everything you can to break them. Cycle charge, artillery bombardment, magic, monsters, guns, arrows, whatever. Warhammer has so much variety, it's wasted if you do just one thing.

Slayers -> Dwarven Shock Cavalry They aren’t that shit. You basically just need to throw them at the enemy. If you have enough of them, you just end up outchunking the enemy, and you get almost immediate reinforcements at the end due to Ungrim’s buffs. Use their charge bonus and the fact they can go toe to toe with most units, and the fact they can hold up entire hordes to simply have them chunk through and surround the enemy lines.

Legend, in the Warhammer Total Wars you can have your units right click on an existing ladder/tower to climb it instead of going around.

Slayers are the cavalry of the dwarf roster. No, they’re not fast for other factions but for dwarfs they are fast and they flank better than anything but gyrocopters. Slayers hitting the flanks of an army do some serious damage, just pull them back if they start taking damage. Giant slayers have AP and anti-large. Legend only thinks of slayers as infantry and in this game he thinks of infantry as only tanks, slayers aren’t good tanks so he thinks they’re bad and disregards them.

I think of slayers more of an option you can run in an balanced early game army with the shrine for a nice option to get them out as early as the first few turns of the campaign, being able to deal with vampire counts fairly early, considering you manage to deal with the orks in your back first. I always find going east the mountain pass and then north pays off really well with the slayer campaign. After that just leave a squadron for coverage in the mountain pass for bloodspears occasional harassment and send main army "with slayers" against the undead, sacking or razing their settlements and then consider going south to party up with the dwarves against the urks

You may not like slayers but as their king proved they can throw down like a beast. I think if they were buffed in a patch to have HUGE amounts of armour piercing and MASSIVE bonuses against large then they'd be a lot more palatable. And it would make sense lore wise. Slayers are dwarves who shamed themselves somehow so they literally throw themselves at the scariest fucking thing they can find over and over again until they die with honor, meaning they're holding nothing back. So every shot should downright cleave armour... that would be even better, every attack from a slayer unit strips armour away from it's victim. They'd make amazing can openers then.

Been playing a few legendary Karak Kadrin PTs and it is deceptively hard. You'd think with its starting position, and a strong dwarf army it would be fine - but by the time you've united the nearby mountain range the Greenskins have confederated the entire badlands, and nearly killed the Dwarves. Chaos arrives directly from the north to sandwich you between Greenskins and them, and on top of that you got vampires ready to attack you at any moment. They got enemies on 3 fronts and their allies die out like flies. And yes, Slayer's melt om Legenadary lol. Can be quite tough being The Slayer King. The good thing, however, he got 3 goldmines nearby. Gunbad, Drakenhoff & Ungor so if you secure the nearby mountain he'll swim in money.

Great heroics on the battlefield, as expected, kudos ! However, you should have torn down that Tinkerer's Shop for a Barley Field in Karak Kadrin at the start, imho. You were sitting at almost 30k gold with abysmal growth. It would have been fine to go into the negative for a couple of turns to grow your capital to tier 3 and get that additional building slot to then rebuild your industry for income.

The issue with slayers in this game is the same as in the tabletop game. Lorewise, slayers are these beefy killing machines, rushind headfirst to battle, chopping down enemies with the same ease as cutting butter with a hot knife (part of this idea comes mainly because of the Gothrek & Felix novels), but when you field them in both video game and tabletop, they are glass cannons. If you are lucky enough to charge them against a huge beasts or monsters, they will be excellent in the attack exchange, but if they have to face an horde of enemies that deals a bunch of hits (or shoots), they are gonna suffer it bad. I understand this dude's idea of "roleplaying" the campaign to beat everyone with slayers as his main unit on the field, but sometimes you have to understand that not every idea will be good in a game that requires patience, commanding skill and planification like this one (specially on the early game, when you are penalized the most).

I haven't had a disaster campaign in a long time. As Chaos i did have a disaster campaign back in Warhammer 1, i didn't know how the Horde mechanic worked and i essentially lost my stack with Archaon and had to rely on my other Chaos Lord that only had Marauders. It was fun.

Holy shit that hard carry by ungrim in the siege. Also, the slayers didn't do too bad. They got way more kills than the warriors. Yeah they're squishy, but they have their niche

just discover one of my favorite unit in the game, Giant slayer. Nothing better to deal with large target than them, absolute incredible. I don't think Legend ever tried them yet.

Slayers are too squishy. in a faction who's primary tactics in the campaign consists of Arty+arty+ranged+shieldwall, the slayers have a VERY niche use, and that is to deal with units classified as large. The problem with that is that they take way too much damage to justify the cost. You could hire a unit of thunderers that could do the same amount of damage to those Vargulfs, and NOT lose half the unit in the process. In my experience, even Giant-slayers fail when pitted against, say, Troll-hammer Torpedoes, who are anti-large, have range, and have enough armor to survive some hits. Slayers can't even fight Chaos war-hounds well. In campaign, you need Dawi who will survive, and Slayers try to die.

Battle 1- Dwarf Lord (no additions) Rank 0 Dwarf Warriors, rank 0 Slayers vs. Vampire Lord (no magic or abilities) rank 0 Vargulf. I couldn't keep the Vampire Lord from getting involved completely, but halfway through the fight, he separated from the blob and fought my Dwarf Lord 1v1. When the vargulf died, I was missing 11 Dwarf Warriors, and 15 slayers. Looks like the vampire lord killed 7 Dawi, and the Vargulf killed 19. Second Battle- Dwarf Lord (No additions), rank 0 Dwarf Warriors, rank 0 Thunderers vs. Vampire Lord (no magic or abilities) rank 0 Vargulf. This time they charged me because I had ranged advantage. About halfway through, the Vapire Lord split from the mob again. With less units in mellè, the Dwarf Warriors took more of a beating, losing 16 this round instead of 11. But the Thunderers lost nothing. The battle was over much quicker as well. The Vampire lod killed 2, and the Vargulf 16. If the Thunderers had reload time reduced, as they often will depending on your lord's abilities, the Dwarf Warriors probably wouldn't have taken as many losses. This was all on Very Hard with Ultra unit scale. On a smaller unit scale, the Vargulf would've done more damage. So, with my tests, I'm assured that I do know what I'm doing with them. Vargulf is a prime target for them, and mixing them in with a unit that can take some of the hits for them while they fight is exactly how you are supposed to use them. They took more losses when using them in the exact way they are supposed to be used, than the Thunderers doing the same. So give me a reason that I should pay 200 more, and 50 more in upkeep per turn for a unit that won't perform as well as a cheaper unit would in the exact same role?

Slayers can do some damage - and have some antilarge bonuses. But you trade 10 speed for 100+ armor. They basically cant take damage if you want utility, and with the rest of the dwarf army being able to grind favorably, the players just end up falling apart if you have any more than two units of them. And somehow giantslayers are worse. The slayer upkeep bonuses are mostly useless because you dont pay upkeep for a unit that dies in the first three minutes of battle

Knocking down the gate really helped you actually. The fanatics were released to kill your slayers that went through but did a heck of a lot of damage to the troops waiting to receive your slayers and basically nothing to you.

I think a part two would be great. This is one of the few SYDC campaigns that I actually thought was a complete disaster. Whilst you have unfucked the situation Legend, that is easily fuckable as soon as those armies reach the settlement. I reckon you should do a part two securing the province and perhaps try and get peace with one or two of the enemies, as that way you leave the campaign is a safer state. I also really enjoyed this one because of the challenge, so the concept of more excites me.

Ungrim is my favorite dwarf faction because it's actually a difficult campaign to try and snowball. Only being able to recruit slayers is a great handicap to the extremely overpowered dwarf roster

IMO slayers are good at doing everything the other dwarfs can't do : anti-large, damage dealers, with high speed (allowing you to run down the enemy as well). I agree that they're bad on their own, but as a specialist unit they really add value I think. They're good at protecting your flanks too, after you absorbe the charge with dwarven warriors.

I always have 2 units of giant slayer in an army to guard the back line that the AI 'love' to flank with fast moving and monster units. let the ironbreakers and hammerers to handle and tank the main line, giant slayers will take care of anything trying to reach your artillery and missile units in a ridiculous amount of time. Beside focus fire from thunderers, rangers,etc. giant slayers is the best way to deal with large target and save a lot of time and resources.

Legend you should really try Giant Slayers. Probably one of the best units in dwarf rosters and they are just a new addition lately. 1-2 units only in one army and they can deal with all kind of of large target, yes you can use thunderer, rangers or quarrelers to shoot monster but they are no where as versatile as giant slayers, in late game they also have ridiculous stats.

started the same campaign on legendary today, had delt with the 3 orc tribes near the starting zone by turn 20. Slayers are godly in the early game, they really smash low tier greenskin units like there is no tomorrow. But you need to transition rather quickly, I loved them for about 30 turns and now I am done with them, time to call in the ironbrakers.

You can get to very cheap slayers with ungrim. Like to 36% upkeep. With lots of replenishment. It's worthwhile having slayers in his army, especially if you get the boosts for slayers. Then get a second army for the ranged units.

Slayers arent that bad, as far as anti large melee it's literally all you have. Use them to tie up some minatours or a giant then shoot them

I think the AI will throw all the forces to the Karak Ungor in text turns. I know that you will beat them all, but is so interesting to see that. Will be good if you retake Karak Kadrin to make a cool ending of this particulary SYDC.

To be honest, karak kadrin beginning is pretty challenging. You just have economy for one army against a stronger orc faction. Ye you have slayers that can 1 v 1 orc units but they suffer a lot of casualties. Then, the vampire counts usually get strong and siege your capital, if you defend it, you barely get any source of money, your only confederation option is zufbar, which is isolated from you. I'm not sure if this is one of those campaigns that requires a rush or has to be planned slowly. I left it in turn 60, after an orc rush I have all the northern mountains but I left it because it was slow and boring as I couldn't go south because there were strong green skins while the vampires, even stronger (they already were attacking altdorf lol) were always threatening my capital and dwarves wouldn't confederate or help me. Zufbar already spent and confederated by dwarves ofc

A full stack of Slayers and Giant Slayers with Ungrim and his buffs pretty much wins any auto-resolve against any other full stack. Wouldn't have helped in this situation because there was no critical mass, but if you do get to build up that stack, don't bother fighting, the auto-resolve will be in your favour more often than not.

Just my opinion but I think you made the wrong decision demolishing the slayer shrine instead of the tool maker as you weren’t going to run out of money either way and it was all that was stemming the flow of vampiric corruption and it was giving an extra 2 units for the garrison on top of that

Do you have the king and the warlord DLC? Because if not you won’t get dwarven RoR - to have the regiments for any given faction (except Brettonia) you need the associated DLC.

WP good sir but I can't help but disagree with your hatred of slayers xD especially with ungrim, the dragonslayers become god tier-hack through anything machines. a good use of them is to abuse their anti large domination whilst guarding cannons on the flank of your army. the AI really struggle against it

The same way Clan Mange in a Tehenhauin campaign can field a stack of Stormvermin by turn twenty with a single minor settlement to their name.
