You might not read this but for the R8, along with that oil pipe (as you probably know the updated replacement is SS not mild steel so won't corrode as much) you may as well rebuild the oil/coolant heat transfer box (which is attached to the other end of that pipe, behind the blade). Commonly called the oil cooler but I don't think it's an actual cooler, just a way to transfer heat to/from the coolant. Very common leak point especially if sat. It corrodes and pushes the plates apart and exposes the oil channels. £800 from Audi but for a few £ you can split it, replace the top piece and renew the seals/bolts for not a lot of money or time.

I would replace all the oil pipes with the updated versions on your audi r8. I am doing my own at the moment. They rub on the bodywork. I would also replace the oil cooler Dean. They are starting to fail like the pipes. I was interested in bidding on your focus but ended up with a focus rs mk3 to sort out. You done well on sorting your parts out.

That clicking sound is dreadful. Sounds a bit like the blend door actuator issue in the Fiesta multiplied by 100.

They seem to be issuing cat "s" markers for so many vehicles that should not be right now. My theory is Copart has alot to do with it. Copart pay less percentage for a cat "s" than a cat "n" to insurance companies. Copart will have alot of influence over what category they are, & as salvage values are still ridiculously high Copart are very confident that they can still do crazy money. So they are in a win win situation. Pay less for them & make them do more than they usually would than in the pre covid days. Im just looking forward to when the job slows down, which will then force them to re-evaluate there marketing procedure. ie let them be sold for a reasonable cost, as right now very few salvage vehicles are worth bothering with.

Don’t forget seatbelts locking out. I think these also have a airbag ecu for them that needs to be programmed or replaced.

I think that clicking noise when you start is the steering pump. The dash lights were dimming in time with the clicks and the steering pump is about the only part that draws ~50a hence causing dimming.

if you unplug that PS pump it might make less horrendous *VOLTAGE DROPPED BELOW 9v* noises. Its probably jammed and drawning a mental amount of current.

Yep. You get absolutely rinsed by Ford on parts for any 'performance' model. I once had a '91 Granada Scorpio with the Cosworth BOA V6. Any time trying to buy parts direct from Ford, when they asked which engine and I said '2.9 Cosworth V6' I could see the £ signs light up in their eyes. I needed a new rubber donut (jurid coupling) for the propshaft and two outer CV joints for the rear driveshafts. At the time there weren't any aftermarket options available. "We don't sell those parts separately. You have to buy the whole propshaft and two complete driveshafts." 'How much?' "The propshaft is £600 + VAT. The halfshafts are £540 + VAT. - Each." At the time that was more than the car was worth. I ended up selling the car to a local Classic Ford business as a breaker. That Granada was my third & final Ford.

Looks like insurance companies are writing cars off for fun now. They’re really not loosing out anyway with the extortionate prices they charge customers. Less paperwork for them to write it off rather than get involved in repairs that may go wrong and then it’s completely different ballache for them.

EVIL GT are just restoring one of these Focus RS. He found out that the wheel arch liner is basically one and a half ST liners riveted together. He shows it in his video and rebuilding the front bumper

Try and save the grills out the front bumper because they’re expensive because evil GT channel paid a lot of money for them they had to get front bonnet and grills and it was over £1000

Evil GT is doing one atm and they have the same problem with the wheel arch but are giving it a go there self as doesn't look like a hard job worth checking out there channel to get an idea off prices and parts they are using as well

Few ideas on the clicking, obvs steering is over the place, not sure its the pump though as that would be louder out the car. To me that sounds like the HVAC system in the centre - something is hitting the motor/fan assembly. It happened on my megane and my mondeo, when one of the blades inside was damaged/impacted by something. So may be a dash apart job. Great content, love the honesty and the upfront view of everything. All the joys of repairing cars. Good fun. Keep it up mate. Your channel deserves to take off.

I think I’ve been quite luckily with localised damage, so only need the bumper and wing. Most other parts are shared with the ST so don’t command the RS tax 😮‍💨

"Front upper" and "front inner" wing supports count as Cat S. So it may well be that little bracket that did it.

Hi just re watched your excellent RS rebuild ,which has inspired me to finally get one unfortunately not in as good pre crash condition as yours. I know it's a long shot but have you still got the remains of the wing you replaced as mine are totally shot where they attach to the sill as I was thinking of trying to repair it as you know new wings are a bit pricey 😳
