Hey bud I have a high speed hotdog critique. The dog deflected quite a bit because there was no internal skeletal structure. Also it was right on the tip, allowing it to whip back faster. I think a more reasonable test would be to slip a wooden chopstick through a dog and then go full speed a bit farther down, like maybe an inch or two. The chopstick is about the same strangth as a finger bone. CHEERS!

Just as a clarification, dados are not illegal in Europe. Saws have a requirement to be able to stop in a very short time after power off (something like 1.5 seconds if I recall correctly). Hence they need to have a brake, and manufacturers shorten their arbors so you cannot put a dado stack on your saw because it would then fail the braking requirement (more mass, more inertia, longer stopping time). So they're not really illegal, and you can still buy them here from a few rare suppliers, but they're just not possible to use with the vast amount of saws available. . Beyond that, holy bejeezus those are some cool shots! I'm getting a newfound respect for Sawstop for sure, especially with the dado stop.

@@Midnight-wh2bs I love this logic. "Oh, in this VERY specific circumstance, you'd still be badly hurt by it! CHECKMATE!" Okay, first, Jonathan kind of proves that even at VERY fast speed, it DOES stop the blade. Yeah, you're not slapping a band-aid on it and calling it good, but you're not losing the fingers either. But more importantly, considering what a table saw WITHOUT this tech would do to your hand in that same circumstance, ANYTHING would be better than nothing, even IF it didn't perform as well as it does in Jonathan's demonstration. To me this is like complaining that a seat belt won't save your life if you crash into a concrete barrier at 100mph, so it's not "worth it". That is probably true (not in the Saw Stop case, but let's go with it for now), but how many times do you actually expect that to happen versus the kinds of incidents it IS designed to save you from? They succeeded by manufacturing the saws themselves. They wanted extortionist fees for licensing the technology to other companies - so they are the only maker. Now that their 20 year patents are about to run out - they are both trying to get the patents extended and get the CPSC to mandate similar technologies on all table saws sold in the USA. So, regardless of how good the Sawstop saw may be, I detest the patent owners. From the beginning it has appeared that they care more about the money than actual saw user safety.

Very cool video! I have always wondered how effective it would be with faster movement! I had the misfortune to have to help a friend immediately after he lost 3-1/2 fingers to a dado stack, it was a life changing event for both of us. I wish that all tablesaws had to be saw-stops, they are such a dangerous tool and often used in unsafe ways.
@GoughCustom4 жыл бұрын
@UCXZEMo-BF2YscGi3HIn2mTA That's not what I suggested at all. Obviously his life changed far more, however being witness to an accident that serious still leaves it mark despite it not being me that was injured. I have been working around potentially dangerous machinery most of my life, but had managed to avoid any personal experience with serious accidents until that day despite witnessing a few close calls. I have always respected power tools but it's something completely different to see the damage first hand, Seeing his mangled hand, hearing his screaming, seeing the blood covered tablesaw, and blood covered bathroom still haunt me to this day. I will never look at a tablesaw the same way, and in fact I have not used one since his accident. I spent 30 minutes with another shop-mate searching through the sawdust in the base of his tablesaw to try to find his fingers so they could be re-attached, but we only found sausage shreds... I was extremely depressed and anxious for more than a week after the event, and still have imagery from that moment flash back sometimes when I'm working with machinery. Of course it's nothing compared to how he must have felt, but as I said these events still leave their mark and to imply otherwise is disrespectful. Best wishes, stay safe! -Aaron

When was this? I am trying to piece together clues. I'd be willing to bet that 2021 has 4 times more accidents than any other year in history. And I think maybe there are some supernatural forces at work, although I have NO IDEA what they are. I had bluetooth headphones installed, and was listening to a podcast. Another guy apparently was also listening to a podcast, and also had a sudden "lapse of concentration." The "lapse of concentration" seems to be a serious issue right now. And make no sense at all how someone could just suddenly "go blank" while doing something so dangerous. I was cutting in June this year, 2021, and I was super tired, after working all day. Suddenly I just went blank, and was not paying attention. I actually "froze" like someone had taken control of my body. It led to a severe kickback. I am very lucky I didn't lose any fingers. Hearing these stories makes me feel incredibly lucky. I actually think that some of these accidents are the result of mind control/outside influence/entity attack/hypnotic trance/remote control.

You're either an idiot, or very new to woodworking. The issue here is not feeding wood at a certain speed, it's about the wood getting pinched and and being pulled through, and your fingers with it too. That is every bit as fast as a punch, hell, maybe even faster.
