Hey bud I have a high speed hotdog critique. The dog deflected quite a bit because there was no internal skeletal structure. Also it was right on the tip, allowing it to whip back faster. I think a more reasonable test would be to slip a wooden chopstick through a dog and then go full speed a bit farther down, like maybe an inch or two. The chopstick is about the same strangth as a finger bone. CHEERS!

The sawstop is one of the most amazing safety inventions ever. The amount of force they can stop and the incredible speed at which they stop the blades is jawdropping. Bosch system was better, it did not damaged the blade , but typical US, lawsuits by sawstop stopped it in US, so were they actually interested in safety or just making money. Now of course they let part of sawstop tech free, when consumer safety start to mandate sawstop from all table saw ... you are going back to people rigging circular saw to the tabletops, when cheapest table saw is over €1000. We in Europe enjoy freedom and use all the dangerous saws that Americans cant handle and can only dream of , like table mitre saw combos. 🙂

@@hughduffel There are double the amount consumers in Europe that in US and there no report 120 000 people getting injured by table saws , EU would regulate it. Bosch system did not sell when consumers did not need it and Bosch would had licensed it . Always they use some case of person that used table saw without blade guard , yeah most injuries would have been prevented by security devise that user removed , thats what happens to SawStop , one blade and most wont replace it .

Back in like 2001 or 2002, I was in my high school shop class when a friend of mine was using a dado stack on the table saw and it kicked back on him, pulling his hand into the blade and literally grinding his pinky finger down to the first knuckle and his ring finger down the the second knuckle. Had these saws existed back then he wouldn't have lost his fingers. So I definitely feel that they NEED to make this the standard on ALL table saws.

I have a mouse and sometimes her instincts activate and she gets really spooked of literally nothing - i get nibbed and sometimes it's pretty bad. Anyway, i don't feel the pain until about a few minutes after because it happens so fast and it's hard to spot the bite until blood pours out or your finger starts throbbing. Sometimes I don't notice it at all until I see all the blood - that's when it starts to hurt. Well, maybe it's just me and people do actually immediately feel injuries but I think that if you got a brief adrenaline rush after activating the saw stop then you wouldn't feel the pain as much either until your heart stopped beating as fast.

Just as a clarification, dados are not illegal in Europe. Saws have a requirement to be able to stop in a very short time after power off (something like 1.5 seconds if I recall correctly). Hence they need to have a brake, and manufacturers shorten their arbors so you cannot put a dado stack on your saw because it would then fail the braking requirement (more mass, more inertia, longer stopping time). So they're not really illegal, and you can still buy them here from a few rare suppliers, but they're just not possible to use with the vast amount of saws available. . Beyond that, holy bejeezus those are some cool shots! I'm getting a newfound respect for Sawstop for sure, especially with the dado stop.

@UCXZEMo-BF2YscGi3HIn2mTA That's not what I suggested at all. Obviously his life changed far more, however being witness to an accident that serious still leaves it mark despite it not being me that was injured. I have been working around potentially dangerous machinery most of my life, but had managed to avoid any personal experience with serious accidents until that day despite witnessing a few close calls. I have always respected power tools but it's something completely different to see the damage first hand, Seeing his mangled hand, hearing his screaming, seeing the blood covered tablesaw, and blood covered bathroom still haunt me to this day. I will never look at a tablesaw the same way, and in fact I have not used one since his accident. I spent 30 minutes with another shop-mate searching through the sawdust in the base of his tablesaw to try to find his fingers so they could be re-attached, but we only found sausage shreds... I was extremely depressed and anxious for more than a week after the event, and still have imagery from that moment flash back sometimes when I'm working with machinery. Of course it's nothing compared to how he must have felt, but as I said these events still leave their mark and to imply otherwise is disrespectful. Best wishes, stay safe! -Aaron

@@Midnight-wh2bs I love this logic. "Oh, in this VERY specific circumstance, you'd still be badly hurt by it! CHECKMATE!" Okay, first, Jonathan kind of proves that even at VERY fast speed, it DOES stop the blade. Yeah, you're not slapping a band-aid on it and calling it good, but you're not losing the fingers either. But more importantly, considering what a table saw WITHOUT this tech would do to your hand in that same circumstance, ANYTHING would be better than nothing, even IF it didn't perform as well as it does in Jonathan's demonstration. To me this is like complaining that a seat belt won't save your life if you crash into a concrete barrier at 100mph, so it's not "worth it". That is probably true (not in the Saw Stop case, but let's go with it for now), but how many times do you actually expect that to happen versus the kinds of incidents it IS designed to save you from? I always wondered how a sawstop differentiated between the things it's supposed to cut and a human finger. My jaw dropped to the floor when you said it used a small electrical current to detect when there's human contact because it's such an elegant and seemingly simple solution. No complicated machine learning, no cameras, no weird laser trickery. It simply takes advantage the thing that we humans have that other materials don't, and that's electricity.

@@wishusknight3009 I think we're on the right track here. However, I wouldn't assume that the saw stop is calibrated to an adult human, or even a child. If my pet ferret (say) touches the spinning saw, it should save the pet. I think one major conclusion that you missed in this video is that having a 'safe' SawStop saw IS NEVER an excuse to follow unsafe practices. EVER! Yes it worked the 9 times you tired it, but that doesn't mean it is guaranteed to work the one time it's a finger hitting the blade and not a hot dog. The saw is super cool, but technology is only a compliment to carefulness, never a substitute.

They succeeded by manufacturing the saws themselves. They wanted extortionist fees for licensing the technology to other companies - so they are the only maker. Lucky? Or just smart? Seriously, as long as you take the time to do it safely, you'll be fine. can't find your push stick? take 10 minutes to make one, don't use those minutes to take chances.

The blade coming to a halt that quickly didn't cause the teeth to come off or the welds to be compromised, it made the stacked blades wobble and the teeth came in contact with the teeth from the blade beside it, punching or wedging teeth off of the blade plate when they contacted one another

That technology is really quite incredible. A friend of mine was cutting the last piece of timber on a Friday afternoon after a long week and he just had a tiny lapse of concentration and he lost a thumb and two fingers, a life changing injury. This would have saved him for sure.

When was this? I am trying to piece together clues. I'd be willing to bet that 2021 has 4 times more accidents than any other year in history. And I think maybe there are some supernatural forces at work, although I have NO IDEA what they are. I had bluetooth headphones installed, and was listening to a podcast. Another guy apparently was also listening to a podcast, and also had a sudden "lapse of concentration." The "lapse of concentration" seems to be a serious issue right now. And make no sense at all how someone could just suddenly "go blank" while doing something so dangerous. I was cutting in June this year, 2021, and I was super tired, after working all day. Suddenly I just went blank, and was not paying attention. I actually "froze" like someone had taken control of my body. It led to a severe kickback. I am very lucky I didn't lose any fingers. Hearing these stories makes me feel incredibly lucky. I actually think that some of these accidents are the result of mind control/outside influence/entity attack/hypnotic trance/remote control.
