This was the worst winter snowstorm I've ever seen. I'm used to lots of snow in the winter time but never the equivalent of two months of snow in two days time. That's exactly what I experienced on today's episode. I'll do what any hearty winter-loving person would do in today's video and fire up the snowmobile in hopes of taking a tour of the property to identify any damage. There's only one problem, the depth of snow was significantly deeper than I anticipated and even though I ride one of the best off-trail snowmobiles in existence, I ended up in over-my-head, literally. Glad you're all along today to see exactly what transpired in this massive winter snowstorm. Here we go!

Hi Sandy, I have to smile as I watch this video of you and your Skandic superwide . I live in Northern Alaska and have trapped up here for fifty years now. I presently own two Skandics and have driven this kind of machine thousands of miles on the trapline. I never leave the yard without a big scoop shovel, an axe, and a come-along with a bunch of rope. Make yourself a box that fits in the back behind your seat. I have never had the luxury of a backup to pull me out so this is how I made it to age 72 without being stranded in the wild and maybe not making it. The Skidoo Skandic SWT is in my opinion, the best machine made for getting a guy out and back in deep snow. If you give it more gas at the start, they usually will jump up on top of the snow and if it were not so narrow on your trails you could keep it on top much longer. I have enjoyed your wood sawing videos very much and have thought about a Woodland Mills sawmill but my wife thinks it is too late in my life for that.. Enjoy your snowmachines and sawmill and God bless you this winter. Arctic Circle Dave

Great to hear from ya Dave. Always nice to hear from others who have used machines like mine. That Skandic sure has a lot of function that's for sure. I just have to get better at riding it. I'm not used to the real deep snow as you could tell. Sure surprised me just how it kept on going. I 'll have to get that box for the back built as I've been meaning to do that to get a chainsaw mounted there as well. Anyways, thanks again Dave, be well!

Most fun video ever! I'm also in Central Ontario, and did what you did, but in the opposite order. Spent a tank of diesel snowblowing some of my paths, then took the SWT for excursions into the woods. Watching your video was a flashback for me of tipping the Skandic over, getting stuck, unstuck, and stuck again. Next time I'm in that deep snow, I'm packing snowshoes, and putting on the ski skins for better flotation. I don't know if yours has the articulating rear end, but I think mine saved me when backing up out of trouble. Thanks for a great video.

So i always have pair of my wide skies, shotgun, ammo, some food, matches within plastic bag, and map to reach the nearest forest cabin, even inside my head if not in GPS unit. Hi Sandy, Great snow machine, I haven't ridden for years because of my back. I rode for part of my communications job on mountain tops in the Cascades in Southern Oregon. We finally learned to not try to lift the machine when you get stuck, shovel out the snow on one side and turn the machine over into the cleared area and fill the hole made by the track with snow and roll it back over. It works and is much easier on your back!

I have a 2014 swt skandic and I absolutely love doing just what you are doing! I had one of the 06 vintage get the wider skis for it and slower is better in that powder back up if you have to but don't spin the track and it will go! Only once in VT had that much snow

Hey Sandy I had similar incident when I wondered into the woods on our trails… took me 2 hours to dig my way to the machine with with the tractor bucket… did not want to leave the machine out in the woods overnight, the fury critters would have had a feast on that nice seat…Be Safe… God Bless…Chief…{NYS/ADK}

Your buildings design and build are done well to stand up to all that snow load. And all that moisture will really help your forest. Thanks for the video.

We get regular snow storms but not normally this much all at once. It's not uncommon to get 6" every few days though

That's a dang nice sled Sandy. I used to have one similar to it as a kid.. I been stuck in that stuff too. Not fun with all those clothes on. We got lots of snow here too I had to get out my crawler to move piles back. Thanks for the ride!

Thanks John. I redid that sled a year or two ago and brought it up to par with new wheels, bearings, sliders etc. One of my favourites to ride around and do work with

Literally one of the most epic snowfalls I’ve seen! That was quite entertaining and thanks for let us coming along to wade the snowfall with you! That definitely would have been a fun time and one pile of work keep the olde Skandic a float to say the least!!! Awesome to see the DK to the rescue buddy! Honestly, we only have about 2-4” of total snow here.. with mild temps currently with not a whole lot coming in the forecast here in Central NB. Thanks again for having us out Sandy and hopefully everyone was safe and well during this event! Take care! Andrew from NB :)

I had a great time bringing everyone along for this ride. Glad you join in Andrew. Seems like this winter isn't that great despite the storm here. Still lots of warm temperatures and no frozen lakes yet which is not normal

@@sawingwithsandy oh boy, I could definitely tell you were having a blast! Been there a few times myself breaking a powder trail, so know the feelin lol! agreed no good frozen base to work with and a lot of waterways still open.. seems like we may have some snow coming soon though.. but definitely makes it tough for winter time activities, take care :)

That looked like a lot of fun....well not the getting stuck part. Those machines are work horses. I had no idea that they could double as a plow. We only got about 8-10" in the North Bay area during that event. A fun video to watch. Thanks! Btw, I'm bring my sled to your place during the next blizzard. Lol.

😮 that’s allooooot of snow! Thinking with the wide track you’d float on the snow but other then that, you’re still going through it!! That’s amazing!! Scandic for days!!😂

HOLY SMOKES!!!!! I grew up in Michigan, but I never lived through a storm that dumped THAT much snow! We got almost 3' in a 24 hour period once, and it took our town over a week to dig out. Being city folk, we didn't have a snow mobile (that's what they called 'em back then). Good thing we had cross country skis. I hopped on mine and went around to all the elderly neighbors to check up on them. Ended up wrapping up Mrs. Pearl in blankets and pulling her back to our house. She had no electricity, only a hand pump well to her kitchen sink and a small pile of wood next to her wood stove. We had a big pot belly stove and a big pile of coal, so we brought her home for a couple of days to stay with us. While she was at our place, we went back over to shovel her out and bring in a bunch of wood. Stocked up her frig with casseroles mom baked her and we're able to get her home safe and sound after a few days. But DANG, you got probably twice as much snow as we did!

My free vote is to use the slab wood to make siding to keep the weather/snow out. Not to rub it in, we are still snow free in Southern New Brunswick

Great camera work during your ordeal in this video. Have you ever thought about getting ski skins for the regular skies that you have on your sled now. The come in various widths and help to hold the sled up in the front and helps with plowing. Where do you live in central Ontario? I live in Burk's Falls 47 km North of Huntsville on Highway #11.

Hello again from Pennsylvania! That was totally cool. I think I would have used the snowblower first, and then played on the snowmobile, but it looked like a lot of fun the way you did it too. I'll be honest, I think I would have just as much fun snow blowing your land, as I would riding around under the snow with your snowmobile. At least you get to really enjoy snowmobiling after you get rid of some of the deep stuff. Thanks for sharing. I hope you do another video on the snowmobile once you get the trails under control. Stay warm and keep up the good work.

You need to go to wider skis on that skandic so the front end floats better and it won't be so tippy. Alot of people go to a 10 inch wide ski for them. The problem with the super wide track and the factory skis is that the front-end don't have same flotation as the back, so you end up plowing instead if getting on top of the snow.

That was an amazing amount of snow. Here in southern Ontario (Hamilton) we barely got any snow mostly rain. Our power went out for 10 hours overnight. Good thing we have a wood stove insert in our fireplace!
