Mr. Robert is the best. I called him a couple of months ago about sending him some blades to sharpen and I ran into the same problem the person from Montana did with the cost of shipping. Mr. Robert took the time to answer all my questions about sharpening. Thanks so much for all your help and keep the helpful information coming. I did end up ordering a Cats Claw sharpener and setter from Cooks. Thanks for your time on the Phone Robert, Pat from Custer S.D.

Thomas, thanks for another informative video. I am the guy from Oregon he mentioned. Mr. Robert is awesome, I emailed him my question regarding his services and he called me. As mentioned, the shipping is outrageous so unfortunately I will not be sending my blades. I am very impressed with his attention to detail when he sharpens blades. He was a pleasure to visit with.

Thomas, thanks for this information. By the way I called Mr Robert yesterday evening and talked with him about blades. He and Mrs Robert were fixing supper. He mentioned FRIED OKRA omg my fave. He said after supper he was installing a rearend in a recliner. I laughed heartley. That man is wonderful. Tell him I found out that FRICK started using replaceable Tooth blades in early 1920s.

Just ordered 45 blades from Wood-Mizer the other day. I have 75+ dull blades and the exact same cooks sharpener and setter but I'm having a heck of a time learning to set properly. I go through about 9 blades a weeks pretty consistently so I'd like to get the hang of it. Not so much to save money but in case I can't order them. I need to rewatch Mr. Robert's how to sharpen blades about 5 times and get to work!

We are going to try to shoot a better video series the whole process. That way each video will focus on each step of the process. Set up of equipment, setting of blade, sharpening of blade and maintenance of the equipment. That way I can reference it when I'm up in Wisconsin and don't have Mr.Robert right here.

FWIW,,, Crazy thing happen to me, so I better mention it here. My Mill,, an Old Norwood Lumbermate MK4. After I bought the mill off of a friend, I bought 10 blades, I think it was Cooks, silver tips. I went crazy & boarded out 100's of logs just for the fun of it. I dulled up all of the bands & took them to a local sharpening shop. All of a sudden, band after band started breaking! Nobody could figure out why. I Had the shop re-weld & re-sharpen 1/2 of them to try it again. Same deal,, 1/2 way through a log, BLAM!! & they even broke in a different spot. FINALLY, I noticed that I had 3-4 cogs/ teeth missing on the inside of the drive belt. I figured out that every time that belt went around, and that low spot was between the drive pulley & band, it was like hitting the blade with a sledge hammer. It had to be changing the PSI tension by 100's of pounds.???? ANYWAY,,,, New belts, New bands,, no more breakage. SO FAR. LIVE & LEARN! Question, now that I have new belts. I have a pile of dead standing pine to do,,, & Some of you say to use diesel? Would that 'oil' quickly destroy the drive & idler belts!?
@TCSawmills2 жыл бұрын
Wow wild, on the diesel I know tons of people who run it. I have heard of belts breaking down but I've not seen it. If it's just a drip or 2 a second I can't see it doing much to break things down. I like the wiper system cooks uses, dosen't take a ton of diesel.

i really like the ripper 37 blades . My question is how do you dispose of broken or damaged blades that cant be sharpened.
@TCSawmills2 жыл бұрын
I have given my broken blades to knife makers and folks who do spray foam insulation. The spray foam guy would use them to cut off extra foam. Otherwise they go in my scrap metal pile.
@cctknight842 жыл бұрын
Dari, it's easy to break the blades into small pieces, just bend them and step hard and they'll snap. Then you can send to the recycle bin, or like posted, give to knife makers.

They are usable when rusty, they will clean up when you start cutting, but you can also lightly spray them down with wd40 or some other lubricant. When Mr.Robert cleans a blade he runs it through a wire wheel that he has on an electric motor.
