Saxon Coin found north Lancashire. Fifth Saxon coin, one Sceattas and four Styca

I have been lucky enough to find a small area with Anglo Saxon artefacts and coins in North Lancashire where they are quite rare.
The local museum, Lancaster are interested in the finds. They included (hopefully so far) five coins, including one Sceat, (Sceattas) continental porcupine type (710 AD) and four Styka. The artefacts included three strap ends, two parchment stamps, hack silver and gaming pieces.
There are also a lot of lead items including spindle whorls, loom or fishing weights. There is also some iron that might be from the same time period.

Hellfire Nigel another one to the cabinet. What a fantastic story stumbling upon an unknown early medieval site! As you said, the cabinet collection grows with another belter. Hi Jake. Yes very lucky to stumble over this spot. Almost empty now. A couple of hours and I'll be lucky to get a few signals but every so often something nice will pop out. I'm running the Equinox 800 with the 15 inch coiltec coil. Tempted to upgrade to either the Deus 2 or the Manticore. 1 nil to you on the gold hammered!

To find something that is between 1000 and 2000 years old is amazing. I know this goes to the museum, but do they give you credit for it in a display? Do they become the property of the museum, or are they yours on loan? It would be great to have one at home, too. Thanks for sharing, Nigel, and congratulations on an amazing find.

Hi Chris. There are rules for what they take. Apparently they don't put names on anymore because of arguments over who found what and landowners. If you donate items for free they put your name on though! This is important because it goes back to the early days of the creation of England and these are rare in north Lancashire.
