Thank you man! I took my car from garage where I changed brake pads and heard this loud clunking noise from my front left wheel. Only when I was reversing and braking at the same time to park. I took it back to the garage and changed suspension, bushes,arms and whatnot but the noise is still there. I spent 1500E and the noise is still there. I finally think I found what was causing it.

Was going thru the same thing ball joints, stabilizer links next was control arms. And it's on a subaru, so nothing comes off or out easy. Same front left tire only when braking in reverse. Pads are original subaru pads with 120k miles sooo gotta be the issue. And only had one anti rattle clip out of four on the front.

Hey buddy Thankyou for the message, I made the shims pretty much out of shims for another model of vehicle I had in my tool box which can be done as long as it’s safely or you can swap the pads out for better quality ones as that’s why there is movement in them

My Evoque has been making hella bang similar to this for 2years since buying it. Been told by several garages can’t find anything wrong in suspension or arms etc. This is probably what it is, so loud, seems to be worse/louder at low speeds. Do you think just buying decent quality front brake pads and having them changed over would potentially fix this?

Thanks for this video... it would have been great to hear the sound beforehand. I think I am having the same issue... when I let off the brake and drive forward very slowly I get a noise that sounds a lot like dropping a wrench on concrete. I think that is one of my pads clanking around a bit when the caliper releases. I just installed new pads so I am not sure how this could be. Was the cause of your issue the pads were just defective size and didn't fit the caliper properly? Will this noise go away when the pad material wears down a bit?
@TheVWMechanic_official
@TheVWMechanic_official 8 ай бұрын
I wish I could get these noises sometimes but it’s difficult diagnosing and filming on my own haha local laws and all that…this noise was a solid clunk when applying the pedal for the first time that journey forward or backwards because the pad tabs were too small and leaving a gap causing the clunk

I just completed a rear brake disc change on my VW Golf GTD MK7, when i am driving i am hearing a knocking noise at all speeds but the noise goes away when i apply the brake. The brake pedal feels fine and the braking itself is brilliant. The only think i can think of is i used a wire brush to remove rust where the brake pads sit, could this have caused the brake pads to be too loose and if so what can i do to stop this. My brake pads do not have clips like the ones shown in the video. Thankyou.

You could well be suffering from after market pads being smaller therefore creating a bigger gap so the pad can move in the carrier

I have a brand new subaru. Brought it in to dealership with the complaint that I am getting a knocking sound from the suspension area. They got back to me, confirmed my complaints, told me it's my pads and they can't fix it. Then tried to slap me with a diagnostic fee. Stealerships!

That’s not good service at all unless they are waiting for a fix from factory

@@TheVWMechanic_official he said there is no fix, and it is "normal for all of their vehicles". So he said because the manufacturer will not pay, I have to. I complained about how ridiculous it was that I have to pay for an issue that they confirmed to be present. After some back and forth, they never charged the fee. But the service manager boldly stated that he will be marking my file as a difficult customer. So I guess I can expect poor service any time I enter their dealer.

@steve8803 mate fair play to you for standing upto them if they wanted to argue it then they shouldn’t of said there’s an issue but I’m glad your the winner on this one
