how I prepare brown rice flour substrate and sterilize it in 1/2 pint jars for inoculation. it helps to be familiar with the original PF Tek to fully understand the equipment and lid configuration in this video.

Cant wait to see whats next. Especially when u make substrate. I decided to try uncle bens i inoculated 4 bags its been 3 weeks and its going slow. Anyway one bag looks contam but other 3 no sign at all. Im with you i think u can be extremely clean and uncle bens may still contam anyway.

I typically just finely break up the brf cake when it’s fully colonized into the substrate. Great flushes. Just have to be careful during harvesting your flushes because it will tear up the substrate really easy

I do this as well with my first jars, then once I have a good Liquid culture, I switch over to popcorn in pint jars because it colonizes faster.

True, as long as you sterilize it in a pressure cooker. This is the original pf tek from the book written by Terrence McKenna, it is meant to be able to be done without a pc. After all that's a big part of what my channel is all about, showing people how easy it is to succeed in this hobby. Thanks for the input🍄🫠

Great vids! I'm curious if you get much contamination using spore cultures for inoculation straight to PF Tek? I've had to first grow out on agar before going to spawn to isolate good mycelium from contaminates... maybe I just got unlucky with my spore syringe supplier.
@mycopsycho3130
@mycopsycho3130 Жыл бұрын
I have very little contamination when doing PF tech, and have never lost a whole batch of jars. I have limited my suppliers to those with excellent reputations such as Michigan Mushroom Man and Grumpy Gills. I don't even use the contamination barrier most of the time since I use modified lids. Its not a bad idea to go straight to agar, but I only do it with my homemade syringes.

I just bought my 1st batch of spores; plus I had to buy shoebox bins, coco coir, etc. I only have so much money, thats why I went uncle ben's tek. When I get paid from work, I will buy a pressure cooker and a SAB... I couldn't find any Uncle Ben's at any of the places I went to. I did find cups of 90 Second Brown Rice, and thats what I am hoping will grow.

For the record this brf jar Tek is designed to work without a pressure cooker. You boil the jars for 2 hours. Good luck my dude 🍄🫠👍
@mycopsycho3130
@mycopsycho3130 Жыл бұрын
Also, just buy the materials in steps, all you need right now is the stuff for this Tek, it will take about six weeks for the jars to fully colonize. While they colonize you can focus on buying the materials for the fruiting process. While that goes for another month to six weeks you can get your drying materials.🫠

You don't need a SAB until after colonization as well

Instant Pot will work just fine. You'll need a fairly large tote which can be a bit clunky depending on where you're lab is. Most of us work in the kitchen so if you're there you might as well just use the heat from the oven for your sterile workspace! Just be careful if you have a gas stove. UB definitely coddles the newbies but it is still an easy way for someone to get into the hobby.

@@mycopsycho3130 I am wondering, what is the purpose of the contamination barrier of vermiculite? The jars have already been sterilized in the pressure cooker, and the lids have been shut so no contamination should be going through. The only contamination would be from injecting the needle which would bypass the barrier anyway. The only use I can see for the vermiculite would be locking in more moisture
@mycopsycho3130
@mycopsycho3130 Жыл бұрын
The contamination barrier is an old school technique mostly used because the original growing method called for using the metal lids with holes punched in them for inoculation. These holes are covered with breathable tape, this tape has to be pulled back to stick the needle in. At this point contaminates can and WILL get in. The vermiculite captures these contaminants. before they get to the substrate. I use modified lids so I can bring my brf all the way to the top. For the record, contamination is hiding everywhere, you can never be too careful, any defense against contamination is a plus. Happy growing🫠🍄

Can you use perlite? Isn't vermiculite same thing as perilite? They both hold water.
@mycopsycho3130
@mycopsycho3130 Жыл бұрын
Perlite is porous and can hold some water, but doesn't do as good a job as vermiculite for water retention. Verm. works more like little sponges.

How many of these jars, per shoebox/tote/monotub of substrate- do you crumble and transfer over into??? One per shoe box sized tote?? And, how’s the yield? What ratio jar mix to substrate, do you use?? Thanks for the amazing content and help!!!
@mycopsycho3130

So I usually just do these in the beginning for spore germination. Then once colonized I transfer to a grain, I use popcorn, but there are other choices depending on your capabilities. The grain jars are one pint, so we are also increasing our Mycelium, I then dump the colonized popcorn into the dub tub with some Coco coir. I have a few videos on the whole process, give it a look and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for the support I'm glad my videos helped, happy growing🫠🍄👍
