So the only real question I have is, do you punch an air hole and cover with tape for air flow or are they good to just stay air tight in the jar?? Also, do you take the foil off after they’ve cooled down or is it a must for the entire process until you spawn to bulk
@mycopsycho3130Ай бұрын
It is for gas exchange, the mycelium will give off gasses. I keep the foil on, but with the filter over the hole you don't need it.
@Kevin-vx3hgАй бұрын
Young knowledgeable sir, have you ever colonised a sterile popcorn jar with live mycelium from another spawn jar/bag instead of using liquid culture
@mycopsycho3130Ай бұрын
Sure, a grain to grain transfer. It has to be done in a still air box or somewhere very sterile because you have to open the sterilized jars to add colonized grain. This is why I prefer LC because you don't have to worry about the environment being clean. You can simply sterilize the injection port and needle and 💥 just like that your golden. Thanks for tuning in🍄🫠👍

Dumb question can u create the mycelium from dried up mushroom spores?
@mycopsycho3130Ай бұрын
I think I need a little more explanation. The mycelium does come from dried spores.
@LazerCatHelmet2 ай бұрын
I expand cultures when I get them (Peptone and malt). However, my syringes never go empty anymore either. When it gets down to a few MLs, I simply suck up some fresh lc mix. Syringes will “colonize” much faster than jars of LC. Sometimes I do something very similar to this method above. TIP- you can get extra long blunt tip needles and sharpen them on a fine stone. This is very handy for reaching past the verm in pf jars, pulling LC without gettting liquid near the lid, and for getting all over the place when NOCing up jars or bags. I have a syringe thats over a year old, never been in a fridge. It all started when I got a culture syringe that had a visible chunk (looks like they used blender) that would never come out. If you dont let them sit forever, and use proper sterile methods, it seems like you can keep it going quite a while just giving it more mix.

Too much work. I used to do this. The day prior, add 1 cup popcorn/grain, 160 ml water and 1/4 tsp gypsum to jar. Add lid. You’re spot on as far as the foil. I’ve been using unicorn bags for this and the tall skinny ones also work gr8 for LC.. Dont forget SHIP and mag bar. No flow hood needed. SAB suffices. I’m using unicorn bags for tool sterilization. Loops. Agar plug cutters. Syringes.
@mycopsycho31304 ай бұрын
Too much work? This is so simple a child can do it. And I don't see any reason for gypsum in these jars, the ph doesn't matter because colonization is so fast. I get full colonization in less than a week. No need to over complicate the Tek.

So, youre in your mid to late 40s? If you were a teenager when Shroomery dropped youd be in your late 40s. Whats your Shroomery handle? Id like to go check out your posts from the late 90 and early 2000s. Edit: Wait.. so youre telling us youve been at this for decades and are still steam sterilizing? 😲 That in 2 decades you havent progressed to a pressure canner/cooker?
@mycopsycho31304 ай бұрын
This represents simplistic mycology. I use a 4.7g pressure canner, but I've got friends who have used this method for decades (yes for decades, buddy) because they grow intermittently and don't have any reason to spend the money. I see no problem with that at all, in fact that's why I created this channel, it's correct info for beginners in a world of misinformation. And killing the elitist idea that you need to spend a lot of money on stupid shit like pressure canners and expensive kits or pricey fruiting chambers.

😂🤣🤣🤣😅 Are you kidding In the 90's and 2000's I didn't have any posts, instead I was living life, shit I was in my late teens and early 20's we were not wasting time posting on forums or getting online at all. Besides the shroomery is a forum, most people use it as a reference guide to growing and other info. When I was that age we got on at the library and wrote down teks and checked out books about mycology then went home to try our hand at what we learned. We were just a few broke stoners learning the best way possible lol. I have a handle but no posts.

@@chicofromph33nix64 that might work, but you've got to be careful with the water content. You don't want the cvg to be too wet, although squeezing extra moisture out usually works for me.
