If you only have $1500 to spend, don't go to NYC and to Kleinfeld. Stay home. Go to a local bridal shop. Apply the cost of the plane tickets to NYC and the hotel to your gown. Or whatever. But don't go to NYC for a bargain. Go there for the best.

Just to play devils advocate some of their sample gowns are exquisite. I love the $16,000 dress a girl got for $999. She originally wanted a black and white striped dress. Plus their blowout sample sale they have every year.

My thoughts exactly. She is pretty girl. She doesn't have to go long way to find perfect dress. She would have lovely selection of gowns locally or in one of many New York stores that doesn't have Kleinfeld's prices. Girls with low budgets who negotiate discounts with teary eye, are, in fact adults who applied to be featured in reality TV show. They sign contract and they very well knew what kind of store Kleinfeld was. I'm sorry, this is not going to be popular opinion, but to me it's a clever shopping tactics on par with psychological manipulation that huge overpriced bridal industry practices one clients. This girl won that game, good for her. She knows she could find better or equal for less. I guess most of brides who want to be featured on the show are there precisely for that - international TV time and professionally filmed experience saved for generations to come. I see no other reason why would anyone went through the whole ordeal otherwise.

@@songbirdsystem1465yes, I always remember that one too. It was odd people criticised that bride for trying dresses (ie the black and white dress) beyond her budget…. I was thinking “did you watch the episode?! By sticking to her guns, Kleinfeld team went out of their way to find a $16k dress reduced to $900… $900!!! Her budget was $2k. She got her dream dress (which she liked more than the black + white dress) for WAY under budget!” Lesson to me, was aim high and share what you like… if you don’t ask, the sales people can’t help you out (they’d have never pulled that $16k for $900 in a million years if she didn’t keep going back to that black and white dress).

I agree with your advice. Why spend extra on plane tickets, gas if you drive, or hotel? I went to kleinfeld's when they were in Brooklyn and walked out. I knew they would be expensive and went inside a small Italian bridal shop instead and found my dress.

If I'm on a tight budget, I don't go to my local fish store and buy wild caught shrimp and crab legs. I go to the supermarket, where I can stretch my food budget. I don't understand why brides who must pinch pennies for their wedding want expensive dresses. There are many ways to buy very nice wedding dresses at more reasonable prices.

I don't either. And they go to Kelinfeld, Bridals by Lori, or Confetti and Lace. And lots of times those same frugal brides need the sparkle, the lace, and the "wow" factor. Ok, seamstress here, who often sews for plus size figures. Yes, the materials cost more due to the widths needed, especially if there is a lot of flare. You can end up using twice the amount of fabric depending on where the seams lie, and the width of fabric you are using. Unfortunately there also ends up being a lot of wasted fabric. It would help a lot if designers and pattern makers would take these things into account, rather than just designing for the easy to fit sample sizes.
@MsJubjubbird
@MsJubjubbird Ай бұрын
The problem is often it changes the whole design of the dress, and they have to take that into account. Regular dresses are designed for women shaped like an 8, with different variations on the proportions. Once someone becomes obese and has a lot of excess fat on the waist, then they become O shaped, and you need a new design, which takes time and hence money. Some designers won't do larger sizes because they have to change the dress. Reality is, if you're designing very expensive wedding dresses, most of your clientele are going to be young women of high socioeconomic status- the demographic least likely to be obese.

An extra $200 in NYC is like telling the family to go get pizza rather than eat at a nice restaurant in NYC. They would save even more, actually. IDK why you're complaining about $200. When the bride is having trouble finding a dress the wants, sometimes you have to go higher to get all that she wants. And $200 is nothing.

And $200 in NYC means that that the whole family settled for pizza instead of going to a fancy dinner that night. Easy peasy. You act like it was $1500 over her budget. And she, hemming and hawing on the price while she took her whole family to NYC, is really insane. If you don't live in NYC and have a strict budget, DON'T get plane tickets and fly your whole family out to NYC to go to a bridal salon. There are plenty of bridal salons near where she lives. Your complaint is ridiculous. That family spent more than $1500 just going to NYC. Don't tell me that they can't spend an extra $200. Especially since it was her SECOND trip there - with the whole family.

Girl, go to the Curvy Bride Boutique in the UK. You'll be looked after, respected, and shown a huge array of flattering dresses. You won't be kept in the back and only shown the ugly dresses like at Kleinfeld!

@@SomewhereInTheMaidenverse Oh yes it is. If I go to a Macy’s and buy an XL in a size it’s the same price as a small.

@@donnadrane4977 Big difference between the fabric and embellishments needed for a size 20 wedding gown compared to a size 8 sample size gown. There isn’t significantly more fabric needed to make an XL top compared to a size small top.
