If you only have $1500 to spend, don't go to NYC and to Kleinfeld. Stay home. Go to a local bridal shop. Apply the cost of the plane tickets to NYC and the hotel to your gown. Or whatever. But don't go to NYC for a bargain. Go there for the best.

My thoughts exactly. She is pretty girl. She doesn't have to go long way to find perfect dress. She would have lovely selection of gowns locally or in one of many New York stores that doesn't have Kleinfeld's prices. Girls with low budgets who negotiate discounts with teary eye, are, in fact adults who applied to be featured in reality TV show. They sign contract and they very well knew what kind of store Kleinfeld was. I'm sorry, this is not going to be popular opinion, but to me it's a clever shopping tactics on par with psychological manipulation that huge overpriced bridal industry practices one clients. This girl won that game, good for her. She knows she could find better or equal for less. I guess most of brides who want to be featured on the show are there precisely for that - international TV time and professionally filmed experience saved for generations to come. I see no other reason why would anyone went through the whole ordeal otherwise.
@rainbows_trees_clouds_dais17663 ай бұрын
@@songbirdsystem1465yes, I always remember that one too. It was odd people criticised that bride for trying dresses (ie the black and white dress) beyond her budget…. I was thinking “did you watch the episode?! By sticking to her guns, Kleinfeld team went out of their way to find a $16k dress reduced to $900… $900!!! Her budget was $2k. She got her dream dress (which she liked more than the black + white dress) for WAY under budget!” Lesson to me, was aim high and share what you like… if you don’t ask, the sales people can’t help you out (they’d have never pulled that $16k for $900 in a million years if she didn’t keep going back to that black and white dress).

One bride actually bought 3 similar gowns and spent under $100 for the lace appliques the gowns had.

Ok, seamstress here, who often sews for plus size figures. Yes, the materials cost more due to the widths needed, especially if there is a lot of flare. You can end up using twice the amount of fabric depending on where the seams lie, and the width of fabric you are using. Unfortunately there also ends up being a lot of wasted fabric. It would help a lot if designers and pattern makers would take these things into account, rather than just designing for the easy to fit sample sizes.
@MsJubjubbird3 ай бұрын
The problem is often it changes the whole design of the dress, and they have to take that into account. Regular dresses are designed for women shaped like an 8, with different variations on the proportions. Once someone becomes obese and has a lot of excess fat on the waist, then they become O shaped, and you need a new design, which takes time and hence money. Some designers won't do larger sizes because they have to change the dress. Reality is, if you're designing very expensive wedding dresses, most of your clientele are going to be young women of high socioeconomic status- the demographic least likely to be obese.
