These ladies are not wedding gown experts, they are psychologists/coaches. Literally, the asking of "have you not found a dress because you don't like what you see in the mirror?" and the "how do we change that?"... That's literally coaching technique!!! Heck, my therapist makes 60€ a session for asking me and treating me this way!!!! These ladies are amazing!!!!!

I used to be a size 18 but because of disease, I'm now a size 5. I hate when people comment on my weight or how good I look. Being skinny means I'm very sick. I was always overweight and was happy with my curves and body. I feel like a little girl now. I don't have any boobs anymore. I cried in the dressing room at the bra shop because I used to be 40DD and now I'm 36A. When treatment starts to work I will gain the weight back, not on purpose but just because I will get my appetite back and wont have such severe restrictions on what food I can eat. I'm single because I dont want to date a guy when I'm skinny knowing I will gain some, if not all, the weight back. I hate how I look right now and wont even look in any mirror or reflection in the window.

I wanted to lose fifty pounds before trying on a dress. Instead I gained fifty, for the same reasons she did. We both got very comfortable with each other. I wasn’t looking forward to trying on dresses, and only wanted one with long sleeves to cover my flabby arms. I ended up getting a strapless one that looked royal and full of volume. And I cried happy tears because I looked beautiful. Ladies, please don’t try to lose weight to fit into your dream dress. You’ll find your dream dress at any size, and look gorgeous.

@broadwaymelody33

Ani b My point was that someone shouldn’t feel that the only way they can be a beautiful bride is if they’re at a certain weight. The wedding industry, especially in terms of weight loss, often encourages dangerous crash diets and it’s sometimes just so much easier to let yourself be comfortable with whatever body you are right now, and don’t rush yourself. The fact that you took “I decided to be happy in my own skin and feel beautiful on my wedding day :)” and still turn it into “Uhm, it’s really not healthy to be obese” is just part of the problem. You think we don’t know that from doctors appointments we dread? Silent stares? Magazines? Armchair doctors like you? Mind your own business, let people’s bodies be the bodies they are, at whatever stage they are on their health journey, and don’t put up a fuss when they celebrate the beauty they are entitled to.

I was always thin 120s-130s. My mom always encouraged diets when I was young to stay in shape. After having 3 bAbies i gained a lot of weight. At my highest I was 180. I have lost 30 pounds and I am almost a healthy weight now only 5 more pounds to loose. But i still feel fat.. im getting married in a year and i still hate the way I look. i know I would hate to see pics from my wedding day looking the way I do now. I feel much happier now than I did at 180. But I wish I was even thinner. Sometimes its very hard to accept your body when your heavy. Which is why im trying to loose weight.. I felt hideous at 180 lbs, I still do. i dont know if ill ever be comfortable with my body.

I know exactly how this girl feels because I am in the same situation as her. I used to be slim and even danced ballet for 14 years, but then gained a lot of weight after sacrificing most of myself to take care of my handicapped mother and to achieve my career goals. It is much, much harder to be content with the larger body you own currently when you have experienced what the opposite feels like, both physically and mentally, before. (This is especially true if the size difference is a drastic one.) The experience is different from having always been larger or having been larger from a very young age because the body that influenced your formative years is no longer with you, and you are left unprepared to deal with the new one--So, it is not only that you feel self conscious and different from others, have been bullied, or have had negative experiences because of your size... At a certain point (after +100 lbs or so), being larger even starts to make you feel almost constantly physically ill because you have a point of reference from your own previous experience for what a healthier size felt like physically, so you start to notice the negatives of carrying that extra weight. ...And in addition to that, it also feels like you've lost yourself. And with that, there is this perpetual feeling where your subconscious knows that if you can just "get it together" and make it happen somehow, anyhow, you might find yourself again--The "you" that you loved and are familiar with. And yet, at the same time, there is this perpetual ominous feeling associated with that knowledge, because the obstacles ahead of you in order to get back to that point are many and overwhelming. And you can never learn, and you often don't even _want_ to learn, to accept your current self if you have lingering hope that you can find your old self again. And in that way, accepting yourself as you are now is not necessarily a good thing because it is partly an admission of defeat. It's like giving in and giving up on that self, so I absolutely understand this bride's feelings of reluctance to accept her current form. But if there's anything I've learned from it all, it's that sometimes you have to admit defeat in one battle to move on and win the war. So long as it doesn't lead to becoming complacent with your issues, learning to love your new, larger self can be a major step toward finding your old, familiar self again by releasing negative feelings that are holding you back from making progress in your weight-loss and self-love journey. *P.S.* Sorry for the long post, but this was therapeutic. But more importantly, larger body sizes and body image in general are a complex issues, especially in the unique situation of major body size changes, and I don't think the "It's ok to just be how you are!" and "Just learn to love plus sized bodies and it will be ok!" messages projected by the self-love movement are doing quite enough or handling it quite right. Because they don't address these complexities, like how defeat, complacency, and giving up are also subtly and less obviously intertwined with those messages, the self-love movement can just as easily have an opposite, negative effect on both mental and physical health despite good intentions. So I also wrote this long post because I thought that was important to point out and explain.

I appreciate your comments a great deal. I'm not sure what size I was when I was 13, but I remember that I was a SLAMMIN' HOTTIE, and by the time I was 14 or 15, I no longer recognized myself in pictures, etc. In many, if not all of my waking dreams, I am back in that slammin' 13 y.o. bod again, even though everything else in the dream might be the way things are now, or at least usually, since i got fat. In some of my dreams, I'm even a runner, which I haven't been able to do without a great deal of pain since I was seven. But I feel so blessed because I have the love of an amazing man who prefers BBW's, and even thinks I'm a Ten-Plus! There ARE gorgeous, built men with impressive personal resumes who love BBW's, or who are grown enough to love a woman no matter what she looks like. Unfortunately, we just have to weed through the 95% of guys who are absolute garbage to get to them.

Then I got into a long-term relationship wih a controlfreak who undermind what little self-esteem I had, and it took me years to work myself up again. Finally, I got ith someone who didn't mind mysize, but his mom did and wanted to separate us. So I trained and dieted and went from a 16/18 to a 12/14. Then he dumped me and I fell into a deep depression, because it made me feel like it was all for naught. I have since been bobbing up and down between 198 and 220stones.

@Smileyrie James I absolutely agree with you. I was just saying this to my teen daughter who gets bullied all the time at her school by a couple of "mean girls" about her appearance and her body. I myself had the same experience in school from a group of popular girls who thought they were better than everyone, turned out all three are bigger than me by a long shot, all divorced and one of them turned out to be a drug dealer. I wish I'd not wasted my time being so anxious and trying to impress them so much to try and fit in with them so they didn't tease me, rather than believing in myself that nothing stays the same, and life moves on for everyone, but I do believe there's something special in this world for people who are bullied, they will come out on top.

Her weight is irrelevant to her looking stunning, yes. But her weight is not irrelevant to health problems down the line. No one should be encouraged to keep the weight, you're encouraging them to face health issues later on. There needs to be a healthy head space to stop beating yourself up for being overweight, but also to know that getting to a healthy weight is important. Most of the population has heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and a host of other problems stemming from obesity.

The sad thing is that High School can be so brutal. Everyone teases everyone for everything. I was too curvy but felt fat, my gorgeous skiny bff was called flat chested, my tall dark handsome fiance was made fun of for his skin tone. Each human being can easily judge another, but interestingly enough each of us has something we would like to change completely. Embracing yourself is a different mature step one takes eventually during adulthood; because at some point trying to still look perfect and hot becomes ridiculous after children, stretch marks and aging. So we can hate ourselves more and more as the inevitable process of nature and gravity exists orrr we can just say "Screw it, I'm freakin fabulous and I'm wearing the hell outta this outfit!"
