I have found NOTHING on this "Purgatory getting retconned" event. They might be talking about Purgatory being decided as not a third location, seperate from Heaven and Hell, but as a part of Heaven, which I believe was done during the current Pope's (Pope Francis's) reign.

Daedlus 12 www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1549439/The-Pope-ends-state-of-limbo-after-800-years.html so, they are mixing purgatory and limbo, which are similar but distinct ideas. and it's specifically for babies, since adults have original sin without baptism. still, it doesn't change what they're saying. a pope did just declare one day that babies go to heaven and aren't trapped in a limbo state between heaven, hell and the purgatorial region. and a few hundred years ago, a pope just declared that unbaptised babies don't just go to hell, which was the original stance the church took.

It's all fucking stupid. Not only because it's religion, but also because the Bible doesn't mention any Purgatory. As far as I can tell, a lot of Christian doctrine was basically "fanfic that became canon".
