Hi Alan, that's a great hike up Scafell Pike, well done for doing it alone, especially on little sleep! We did Scafell Pike way back in 2008 and I remember it too being very "scrambly" to hike especially near the end! We've recently come back from the Lakes having staying in Ullswater, looking forward to sharing our hikes in coming weeks! Cheers, Simon😎👍

Oh the memories are flooding back! We started in Wasdale too and I remember the drive to the carpark being a very narrow but beautiful road. The crossing at 1:23 was tricky when we did it (in March) and I have a photo of my Englishman walking up the hill to see if there was a better spot, but in the end .... thanks to my poles.... we made it with almost dry feet LOL. We had snow at the top so it was a challenge to find the route (the normal one as we didn't feel Mickeldore would have been safe in the snow). As you mentioned, it is a bit bouldery getting to the top and that was difficult as one never knew what was hiding under the snow. But that looks like a very exciting yet exhausting route with all the scree. Well done Alan .. also on the early wake up LOL!! And you are right, film never can convey the beautiful of it in real life! Glad the weather held up for you but the clouds on the way down looked very mystical. Thanks for sharing and Cheers :)))

You are on course for doing England's 3,000ers... get Skiddaw and Crossfell done and you will have completed all four of England's P600s. Take care. Alice

Glad you had the views at the top Alan it makes the day. I think I saw a glimpse of the lords rake at 819 in the top left hand corner, it’s a vertical channel. It’s like an illusion that you can’t see until you know it’s there, It’s very challenging but an incredible cut threw to Scafell well worth the effort. What a great day out, hope you had a cider to celebrate. Regards.

I'm heading up to scafell pike this weekend coming; with the eldest in tow - been a little over 10 years since I was last up scafell pike which I did on my own and went the normal route. The boy has specifically requested some scrambling though, as he enjoyed it at snowdon last year (via watkins) and I had to do some digging around, and realised we could have a little more of a challenge going via mickledore, which is how I've ended up here on your video :) looks like a fun route, here's hoping we have some decent weather! Great vid, definitely agree with you re: going on your own, sometimes it's nice to just have the time to do things at your own pace and take it all in
@AlanMETALMAN6 ай бұрын
The weekend is looking quiet good so here's hoping you get a great day and even better views from the summit as well. The Mickledore route will be great for you both and a lot quieter than the main path too, a small tip would be stick to the edge as you go up towards Mickledore, which is a bit easier but it is a great way to the top. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciate! Have a great weekend hike, cheers Alan

Well done and brilliant VLog Alan. We stayed at the NT Campsite (booked a few weeks ago when restrictions first lifted) and by the sound of it set off about an hour behind you, same route ascending Mickledore. I just noticed when you was on the summit, the guy with the Parsons Jack Russell met us at the top of Mickledore and was going to climb down it. But the clouds rolled in so he returned to the normal route

Well that brought back a lot of memories. It is many a year since I did Scafell Pike via Mickledore. My normal route is from the ODG, longer walking but not as far to drive, in fact, you can, if you get a bit of a move on, do it by bus! I do remember watching Jos Naylor run up and down it, I seem to remember it was on Channel 4, and they also mentioned it on Terry Abraham's 'Life of a Mountain'. He ran up from close to the car park, and back down again, in 47 minutes! I think I'm like you Alan, I enjoy the slower pace, plenty of stops to admire the stunning view. Thoroughly enjoyed sharing the journey via your video. Take care and stay safe. Thankyou - Eric.

Thanks very much for watching Eric and such a great comment. Now he was a proper boy,, running up and down and in 47 minutes, mind blowing. I've been trying to learn exactly where these areas are. The names are so confusing so I map them. I've been watching a lot of England / Scotland photography channels like Thomas Heaton. I've really been learning as these areas are now on my wish list of places I want to visit - once we're allowed. I suppose the world is so big I never paid attention to anyone saying England has beautiful landscape but it certainly does. & now I know where Scafell is! Near Wasdale Head & Great Gable! Nice hike. Nice area. I actually prefer foggy day so it looked spectacular. From what I can tell flying into Manchester is the nearest hub to get to these lake districts. I'm taking notes. Rockie

Another superb trek Alan, was well pleased when you decided to take the Mickledore route, know what you mean about ''being there'' as opposed to watching a vid.......you did elude to the fact that you would be back up there, so here is a challenge for next year.....try going from Seathwaite in Borrowdale, up through Grains Gill to Esk Hause and then across the boulder-field to the summit, then descend by the corridor route to Sty-head tarn and back to Seathwaite. Its a challenge but I reckon you can do it.......cracking vid Alan,loved it.......cheers....Stu.....👍👌

Brilliant vid Alan. I'm a bit of a stranger to Cumbria, but hoping to put that right once the lockdowns are behind us. Researching for a trip up Scafell Pike and your vid came up 😁 Might try the popular route for my first go though! All the best👍
@AlanMETALMAN3 жыл бұрын
The good thing with the popular route from Wastwater is you cannot get lost, just follow the path up and there will be so many people going the same way too. As I remember I set off at 07.00 and there were still quite a few people on the trail then. Thanks very much for watching Des, cheers Alan

Beautiful view of the lake. I know the feeling on taking the breaks. "Gotta Beast it up there" That's awesome! That's a lot of shale rocks. I thought only we had the stupid people over here that write stupid stuff on other people's property. The views from the summit of Scafell Pike are amazing! The magical moments are what make every hike wonderful. I love how the weather can change within minutes. Thankfully you got there early and beat the crowds. Thank you for taking us along on your journey! Cheers Shu.

So, you chose the beastly way Alan. Well, you chose the rockers way because there was lots of rock and lots of roll. Ha ha! Well done, a really good climb. Some good breaks but you had nobody to talk to on this route. If you had imagine how long it might have taken you to get them views. Maaan, you could see off Scafell Pike but only just in time. Good going. All the best. Mark

Hi Alan. Really enjoyed that. Well done doing it and getting up and out so early. I'm doing this one next month. It's 5 hour drive for me. I have about 50 hours. After doing this I'll leave early the next morning. Can you please recommend some good places for me to move on to. Lake District or well known places in your area? I know very little about hikes in England nothing really. I have a good engine on me and can walk pretty fast on little sleep. I'm hoping to go to quite a few places. Big hikes and waterfalls or lakes. I'd be greatful if you had in places for me to visit after doing this one. You had great views on the top. I will wait for a clear weekend and just go for it. Cheers mate.

Well the other classical climbs in the Lakes have to be Helvellyn and Blencathra, with the option over Striding Edge and Swirral Edge on the way up and down from Helvellyn and Sharp Edge on the way to Blencathra, which as long as you have a good head for heights are all brilliant to go across. Both of these have routes when you can miss out the edges if you are not keen on doing them but both of them have amazing views from the summit and only about a 45 minute drive apart from each one. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
