Hello everyone! Welcome back to my KZbin channel. Scafell via Lords Rake Solo Scramble - Corridor Route - Scafell Pike - Lake District.
This adventure I'd be tackling 4 Wainwrights on a circular route around the Scafell Group of mountains including a steep descent down Mickledore and a scramble up Lords Rake. This is a fantastic route tagging a few other summits and well worth trying if you're confident on your scrambles.
These were the summits bagged on this walk;
🗻 Lingmell Col (737m)
🗻 Scafell Pike (978m)
🗻 Mickledore (830m)
🗻 Symonds Knott (959m)
🗻 Scafell (964m)
🗻 Slight Side (762m)
Apologies this video is a day late this week but I had some challenging personal issues and knew I wouldn't be able to upload on time so I have scheduled this in advance to go out on the Thursday at 6pm.
I have already scheduled a bonus video this week at 6pm on Sunday from a hike last year with my daughter up Pendle Hill which I never released on KZbin so keep a look out for that. It was our first proper hike and hope we can do more this summer when she's ready to get back out.
Next weeks video is already edited and scheduled and will be out on Wednesday 22nd April and will be the return to Tryfan. I had the opportunity to go back and take on the same route as last time with another group and couldn't pass the opportunity up. So pushed some more challenging lines and decided to take the camera and film it.
I hope you guys enjoy my videos and find them helpful. Haven't seen this done via Lingmell on youtube, enjoyed this. Symmonds Knot is the huge rocky prominence where you'd emerge if you'd taken a left at the top of Lords Rake and hiked the West Wall Traverse. In that weather you were wise not to do that. I did it in the driving rain and clag last week, and it was nerve shredding. Love the video - don't stop talking, the company is good! Subscribing.

appreciate the confusion there...years ago as a young aussie tried to follow one (cant remember which) of Wainright's paths (the books are exquisite in themsleves). It led me into a decending path along a wall down towards one of the lakes. Would have been classic.... except the path seemed to becoming less and less defined, and was sloping of the wall. Quite a drop. Perhaps it was OK, perhaps I had mis-read the walk, perhaps the path had eroded since Wainright... but I retreated. Still gives me the hebbies to think about it.

Great video. You missed the narrow path to the left that stays close to the buttress in the approach to lords rake. Done it a few times myself. You just made it more hard work for yourself. @@krisgleave how accurate is the navigation on that 6x? Did it slightly lead you off the top part after mickledore and onto lords rake?
@krisgleave
@krisgleave 2 ай бұрын
@@Oliverrees-horsley No the navigation is perfect on it. I just wasn’t sure of the right path as I manually plotted the route which I sent to my watch so I wasn’t 100% sure which path I should be on. I use it for every single bike and all my long distance hikes in the UK and overseas too. Essential for me. The 6X Pro is superb and been brilliant. Have to say the 7X is faster at acquiring GPS and loading a few things but if you were looking to buy you’d get a 6X Pro cheaper. The X refers to the size. Mine is the largest size as it has the best battery life. Easily on a 10hr hike using it all day with the screen on for navigation and full tracking and all sorts it uses about 26% battery. @krisgleave Perfect thanks, looking at that model now seems just what i need. Ran into difficulty getting down the corridor route on Saturday, visibility must of been not even 20 feet, and want to be more prepared. Want a watch with GPS as good battery life

@@adamwest4825 aah yes I think they’re invaluable. You’ll use it on every hike so it’s worth every penny. If and when you buy one, you’ll also need to upgrade the maps. Check out TalkyToaster on Google. It’s about £14 I think one off or maybe less. Essential in my opinion as adds a lot more information missing from Garmin maps including contours. Everyone’s gets this who gets a Garmin watch

We're looking at doing this very thing! Can I ask how long this took?
@krisgleave
@krisgleave 8 ай бұрын
It didn’t take too long. If you check the video link you’ll see my strava link for this hike. It’ll have the total time and the moving time on there. Can’t remember off the top of my head but think it was about 4hrs for the whole circuit but I do move quite quickly

Are the Lords Rake and the corridor route one and the same?
@krisgleave
@krisgleave 8 ай бұрын
The difference here is the mountain summit. The corridor route takes you up to Scafell Pike. This is Scafell, it’s a different summit futher along. You have to go over Mickledore to get to this AFTER you have summited Scafell Pike. Check the video description there’s a link to my strava. I didn’t take the corridor route up I can up a different way but might help you visualise it comparing it to OS Maps

Really enjoyed that . Scramble was a bit hairy at times. What boots did you use? Looked very grippy.

Cheers Colin it’s a great route and not too bad when you’re there and actually on it. For this I wore my Adidas Terrex Freehiker GTX (v1 not the v2). Always loved them for hikes as don’t let water in and certainly grippy. Last few hikes I’ve moved on to Altras which I’m really enjoying especially with the zero drop and cushioned sole. Still do love my freehikers although since wearing Altras they don’t feel as cushioned. Next time I wear them I think I’ll change to thicker insoles.

@@krisgleave oh thanks . Interesting. I like a vibram style sole and a wide toe box I’ll have a look.

It’s not too bad but I agree it’s not the best however the summit itself has some interest. Personally I’ve never been a big fan of Great Gable.
