Another masterful lesson KH. Thank you. I noticed you mentioned the 'dim7' and I've wondered why we just don't call it a 'minor 6 flat 5' chord. To me that seems more logical. Anyway, I love your lessons sir. Thanks again.

Because the chord is built from a diminished triad we call it a diminished 7th. (bb7)

Lots ol love and thanks form an (almost) self-taught double bass cat from Italy. This is a very effective and simple way to approach iiVi and the altered dominant. Looking forward to digging into it. This is a beautiful song, which I didn't know! Thank you maestro!

More great stuff Kent! I’m really digging into practicing simple bebop lines and am totally starting to hear what you’re talking about target tones and hitting chord tones on the strong beats. Your book sure has a lot of good lines to practice in all keys.

20:12 20:44 Another lesson on how you interchange the diminished with the dominant 7 flat 9?
@KentHewittpiano88
@KentHewittpiano88 11 ай бұрын
Yes, there's a slight adjustment in the notes...but the scales are relatively similar. The dominant needs a major 3rd.

Thanks Kent. Great lesson. Really getting my money's worth out of your books too. I figure it is down to pennies an hour in investment versus time enjoyed. I am a far better piano player than I was six months ago I had kind of plateaued over the last couple years before starting in on them. And I am only getting started with them. Hope a lot of the 5,000 people who viewed this video are supporters who, like me, understand the tooth fairy is not dropping these lessons.

Hey Kent, love your videos ! Thanks a lot for sharing so much knowledge for so long...really appreciate it. Simple question : I was taught to think from where that chord (Em7b5) comes from...in that case is the second degree of a Harmonic D minor. Instead of thinking which scales can be used to play with that chord. is that ok to think like that too? It seems to me that is kind of the same thing in a different angle...

I also teach my students Bm7-5 is Dm over B. Thus playing Dm lines over B. I’m not sure how many utilize this concept. Also the raised 2 on the m7-5 is the 6 chord in Melodic minor. Just another twist. 😊
@KentHewittpiano88
@KentHewittpiano88 11 ай бұрын
Twists are often good for seeing things from another perspective. A Dm6 inverted is a Bm7b5. Often in some fakebooks you'll see a Dm6 proceeding an E7, and it should be a Bm7b5.
