Love watching you Dave. Thank you. A lot of other ‘you tubers’ are up their own ass and are just showing off their skills but you are very calm and talk your way slowly through your lessons without any of the ‘look at me’ bullshit. I owe you a lot for what you’ve done and I hope you continue to produce these. Pity you don’t have more subscribers but I’m sure this will come in time and it just shows that you’re more about the lessons that the numbers. Cheers Dave.

Thanks for teaching a 47 yr old dawg new tricks...I gravitated towards 'happy' sounds on a lot of my improv moments...but.. YOU single handedly have brought a new side to my solos... with the constant note names on all the chords...it seems to lead me towards a minor/rock style... I can now accent the note I choose,,, then resolve to a root/3rd/7... this little thing, Opened a whole new way of thinking. hidden in plain sight all this time.. Kudos my friend!! hope to jam/correspond soon!!!

Hey Dave - you're probably aware of the great Pat Martino. His whole conception is based around minor thinking. He calls it "the minor conversion concept". So you're in very good company! I was taught to convert everything to minor when I was a kid and its just natural to think that way for me. And I also just love minor sounds!

I’ve seen several of your lessons and I have to tell you I’m so impressed with your knowledge, your demeanor, and skill. I’ve played guitar now for about 33 years now and, whereas I’ve won guitar contests, recorded albums, toured, sold my songs to major corporations, and even taught for several years…I feel like I still suck lol. One weird thing that has evaded me all this time amazingly enough, is my knowledge of blues scales and the pentatonic scale in general. I can shred, sweep, play neonclassical stuff and all around sound like a decent metal guitarist, but when someone would play a simple blues progression my stellar playing quickly eroded into less than beginner level and could get embarrassing pretty fast. So…I have chosen YOU sir late night lessons to free me from my prison lol. I humbly submit myself to your tutelage! Please help me to not suck anymore lol.

I am a minor musician, as well. I think, for me, music written in a minor key has more feeling and emotion to it. I mean listen to, let's say, Still Got The Blues, and I can feel what Gary feels when he plays it. Great lesson, sir.

Second time I’ve watched this. I’m an old rhythm player who is self taught and could never understand scales no matter what I read. I’m trying to develop some lead skills and David’s passion and clear explanations make it so easy to understand. I’m going to work on breaking the box, I’ve struggled to memorize the higher string notes and hope this will help and open my eyes to the whole fret board. Only wish KZbin existed with this content when I was in my late teens and had hours upon hours to practice. Now there’s work, kids, life all getting in the way of my guitar.

I’m a veteran bassist. The pentatonics are the bedrock of my style. I consider myself a master of their usage-major and minor. But people are always blown away that my style is reduced to such a simple concept. Many players use them but you can spend a lifetime developing a way to integrate them into just about everything

Love it! Looking forward to watching part 2 here in a minute. I'm in the same boat as far as minor tonality preference, btw. However, I have a question/suggestion: a lesson on blending major/minor phrasing in solos aka Neal Schon/Joe Walsh/38 Special, etc. using relative major shapes. I've always loved players who can use melodic phrasing like that - I think of solos from Eddie Money's guitarist, Bryan Adam's guitarist back in the day, as well. Thoughts?

Good stuff! You should also take a look at Jon Finn's approach of connecting the rectangles and trapezoids for two string movement through the pentatonic scale. Keep up the great work!

LATE NIGHT LESSONS, can you make a video showing examples of using "outside NOTES" of the pentatonic scale. Hotel California Don Felder uses a lot of Outside notes that are not in the pentatonic box. The solo in GNR sweet child of mine also uses a lot of "outside notes" from the pentatonic box. These are the 2 major examples of know of that use the pentatonic box but use outside notes as melodic notes. If you know any other guitar solos or examples to help out please make a video explaining this to learn from. Thanks for the help

The Mysterious Musical Master Magician David Brewster!!! ... I guess it would've sounded cooler if your 1st & last name started with "M's"... but I still like it. I'm a huge fan, you said that you actually read all of these comments, so I was hoping to get your attention and ask if you would please do a deep dive into a few of songs in particular...? 1st would be Dream Theater's (John Petrucci) solos from the Song "Change of Seasons" I have learned them, but playing them perfectly has been tough. That's really what I'd like to master the most, but if that's not really your style, then maybe you would rather explore: (2nd) Megadeth's (Marty Friedman & Dave Mustaine) I was hoping you had some tips for playing any of the solos from any of the Songs from "Rust in Peace" I've learned most of the rhythms and pieces of the solos, but I admit I haven't put very much work into them, but if I had some pointers, I'd put the work required into it. If not those, then maybe: (3rd) AL Di Meola's any of the solos from the album "Casino"... Egyptian Danza is the most commonly tabbed and I know most of it, but for some reason the solo gives me some trouble. I think it's mainly the 2 note per string sections. I can play fast, but I seem to have difficulty with crossing strings and only picking 2 notes at a time. I can go faster going from the high end down to the low E (descending) than I can the low E to high e (ascending) I don't know why... I've tried pick slanting, but ??? I can blaze through 3 notes (or more) per string with the major/minor/modes, but I'm not nearly as fast with the Pentatonic 2 note per string, in fact I feel like I'm moving in slow motion... it's frustrating, annoying and limiting!!! Maybe if you're not into the idea of those songs, you could just give us some exercises and pointers to help with that??? Please. You are my favorite KZbin channel and I watch at least 5 or more of your videos everyday, even if I've already seen them!!! I'll even turn on your 3 for all or chordplay Playlist and fall asleep listening to them!!! I was into Rick Beato's and Tim Pierce's channels, but since I found yours, I watch your videos pretty much exclusively. I've shared your videos with everyone I know that plays guitar. I primarily write rock music, but my father is a classical guitarist and taught me at an early age. He doesn't use a pick (at all), so I had to teach myself how to play rock and metal and how to use a pick. Anyways, I love you brother, I love your videos and whether you make a video with any of these ideas or not, I'll keep watching and sharing your videos. Thank you for everything and bless you my friend. Someday, sooner than later, I will be getting some money and I'm going to buy you whatever piece of gear you want!!! No joke. I lost my home, entire hometown and everything I owned in a California wildfire, including my masterpiece album that took me 7 years to record, as well as all of my gear and equipment!!! I have a settlement coming and I want to gift you a piece of gear that you have been wanting, because your videos helped me out of the depression of losing my home, hometown, album, gear and everything else. It took me a long time to even pick up a guitar again, but I came across your videos and felt compelled to play. I heard you mention that you didn't have the money to go out and buy a piece of gear for a video and I'm not claiming to know your financial situation and I'm sure that you have some sweet gear, but I would like to repay you for helping me. I don't have the money yet, but I was told that we should be getting the 1st installment around June. At which point I will be able to buy you something cool that you've been wanting. I know that it's a ways away, but I'm serious. When I get the money I'll let you know. I wish you well my friend. Thank you for everything!!!

There are basically 5 shapes of the minor pentatonic scale up/down the neck, why does the shape change so much in the various positions? Yes, I'm a minor scale guy too! Not sure why, that's an interesting observation. Of course, with major scales, I generally will add, delete as sounds right to my ear!
