Another point to mention is that the "locked" style starts to fall apart when strumming more than 2-3 note chords. Forearm rotational movement has a wider range and can strum 4-5 note chords at a faster and more relaxed pace.

This is good stuff. Another way to think about this is that we don’t play guitar with our eyes. Doc Watson and Jeff Healy should be enough of an example for anyone to be able to see that if you want to play, you need to figure it out yourself by doing the work.

Jesse Ed lived across the street from me during the 1960's - I lived in Venice beach at 27 Hurricane St. Jesse Ed showed me some stuff i dont think I "studied" with him he just got me going on guitar much more than the class lessons at McCabes guitar shop in Santa Monica, and he let me play his electrics. It was a great time.
