Man I was expecting the engine issue to be something silly but in the end it was far from that. The seller absolutely mis-represented what they were selling and you would be well advised to contact the dealer principle at the Ford Dealership (nobody less) explain to him your issue and gently leverage your KZbin following for an amicable solution. Only a foolish business person would tell you to pound sand and if they do then let the Name and Shame game begin because they would have earned it.

As a Ford Master tech myself and prior Ford technical rep I’ve seen the 180 out situation on one bank happen twice from “Ford Technicians” at two different Ford dealers, once on a 5.0 mustang once on a 2.7L. The whole problem resulted from them pulling the engine halfway apart for another repair (usually a cylinder head repair on one side). But when reassembling they did not have it at TDC on cylinder one. Yes the marks all “lined up” once they “finished”, but since the crank makes two rotations for every one rotation of the cams...hence one bank can be 180 off. The fix was to pull all timing chains apart and follow the instructions as if this was a completely disassembled engine to insure no steps were missed and timing was aligned. In your case Mike, if you are 100% certain timing has been corrected, and it still doesn’t sound or run right I would venture to guess something else was changed that isn’t correct for the engine or was set up incorrectly due to the monkeying someone has done to “make it work” for their application. I would look at the crank position signal with an oscilloscope to make sure the pattern is good and timed to the cam signals electronically. Also if the crank trigger wheel has been taken off previously, it could be damaged, have been replaced with the incorrect one, or placed in a magnet tray which demagnetizes it and wipes the polarity of it. I’ve also seen the cam trigger ring be slip rotated a few degrees off. You would need to compare the position of each nub of that trigger to a known good cam. Sorry for the long winded post but hope this helps.
@shawnm696
@shawnm696 2 жыл бұрын
I have a feeling the cams were changed for them to take off and screw up the timing like it was. On second thought, I’d be all over that dealer for a refund because who knows what else was done with that motor that they are lying to you about. If it’s a local SoCal Dealer I might be able to point you in the right direction to talk to if you don’t make any traction.

@@justinoliver1984 it’s been a few years since I have dug into a 5.0L and I don’t recall specifically which type of trigger is used. But generally if there are teeth on the trigger wheel, that kind is usually not affected by an outside magnet. The crank or cam trigger wheels are are smooth around (no teeth) usually contain magnets inside that can be demagnetized when placed by another magnet.

Don't worry about the people complaining about not having new 308 content. The waiting on parts struggle is Real, and we feel your pain. Your situation with that engine reminds me of a mess that I had acoupke years ago. I bought this car off of a kid. I bought the car to fix up and flip. He told me that the car ran fine but needed a starter. I believed him and bought it without checking it over much. Once I got it home I discovered that the engine had a blown gasket and got so hot that it had locked up. I know that the kid knew this as it didn't have any spark plugs in it. I decided just to cut my losses and sell the car on Craigslist for parts. A guy calls me and says that he has a good running engine that he will sell me for a good price. I decide that I wouldn't lose as much on the car if I went ahead and put the engine in so I drove 2-1/2 hrs away and got the engine. The guy swore how good the engine ran and that he guaranteed that it was a good running engine. Once I got it home and checked it over I found that the engine had been sitting outside and was full of water and was locked up ( the guy said that it was stored inside). I immediately called the guy and told him that he ripped me off and that the engine was junk. He refused to give me a refund and just insisted that the engine was fine. After several days of fighting with him I decided to take the engine apart to try to salvage it. It was so rusted that it was complete garbage. The cams were rusted so bad that they were junk and the cylinders had water in them and rusted so bad that they might not have been salvageable even if bored out. I was so mad that I took the guy to court. That ended up being a waste of time because the judge told me that he could say anything that he wanted to but because I didn't get it in writing that there is nothing that I can do about it. He made ut out that I was the one trying to rip him off.

I guess you found some good luck in all of your bad luck with the shoot being pushed back. Gives you some time to rest and reset and get the beast of the Model A ready to go! It sucks that the dealership was shady and didn't disclose all of the information in order to bait you into a sale. I really hope you're able to get some compensation for their scam, especially with how much you've spent even just diagnosing the problem itself. Don't worry about a stagnation in the Ferrari content for now. It is what originally brought me to the channel (I read an article someone wrote back in January on it and then it took me a bit to get to the first video on it in my watch later list lol), but honestly I'm just here for the build videos in general at this point. Traded an old gaming PC for a 1st gen Eagle Talon TSI AWD. Somehow the cam gears broke on the PO and he didn't have the time to do the work himself, so he had a local shop replace the gears. Well for whatever reason the shop couldn't get the car running, everything about the engine screamed healthy. Good Spark, Fuel, compression, etc. They figured it's the ECU as Early 90's Mitsu ECU's are notorious for capacitor leaks, so the PO had the car towed home and went hunting for a replacement. Couldn't find one that wasn't fucked and didnt have the money for aftermarket. Car sat for 2 years before I found it and made an offer. Got the car home, replaced the consumables, then tried to start it. Nothing. Sprayed a ton of starting fluid into it and boom! ball of fire from the intake... that shouldn't happen, timing was right? Figured something was weird, had my dad cover the exhaust with his hand.... sucking air!! Flipped the timing on the head around, started right up! Wish I still had it, but there was an FC RX7 that popped up a few months after I fixed up the Talon and FC's are a dream car for me.

If anyone watches Mighty Car Mods, they had basically a blown engine (1.5L I4 Suzuki, it was for a Jimny swap) sold to them about a good month ago. Coolant blew through cylinder 4 and one of the heavily corroded valves was cracked. despite the add said 'cleaned and compression tested'. They had the audacity to tell them there was nothing wrong with the engine and that they blew it up when installing. Naturally they refused to refund. Someone found out where the engine came from, and man those sellers had absolute hell fire over them. They had their asses kicked hard on the internet, all that over 700 AUD. Now left with a reputation at -50% But in your case sounds to me like they gave up halfway the F150 build and simply bolted everything back together quickly to get it out of the way. So yeah they lied big time, because no one would buy an engine if they knew someone meddled with the timing. It's a sad state these days, just own up to your mistakes, lying is already bad enough, don't go doubling down on it, the only outcome will be worse. I really hope you find a specialist to sort out the car, after all the time you put in it, best of luck.👍 Also don't mind the whiners, if their are dissatisfied, they can go out an buy a 308 and start a project themselves.🙃

They will likely be responsible for Ford losing the popularity it now has with truck buyers, once they apply their "ethics" to sales of the new F150 Lightning.

Great vid! As an avid watcher, just have to ask you to stop effing apologizing to viewers. You build and publish content as you want. Viewers have issues, they can bitch and moan and ultimately stop watching. It'll be their loss, because your stuff is quality and better than a whole lot of others channels here, streaming elsewhere or on TV. This Ford build is NOT my favorite...not close to my automotive tuning interests, but the content is still quality, host is still entertaining (except for the cringe-worthy apologizing). Do you, do your builds, and we'll watch, subscribe, and like your vids.

I found your channel because of the Ferrari, but first and foremost, I'm a car guy! You're building some pretty cool cars and that's what I want to see. Keep it up and I'll be around for a long time. Once you start buying V10 or V12 Lamborghinis, I'm out. I can get screaming revbombs on DDE all day. Honestly, I mute DDE when they go for drives cause it seems like that all they do.

Man! Talk about a dealer potentially making a HUGE misrepresentation... But to be honest, when you said that you got the engine for approximately 1/2 price because the dealer ordered a car fine ordering Coyote engine vs the F150 firing ordering equivalent; I knew something more was a play. There is no reason that a dealer would offer an engine at 1/2 price to get rid of it because they ordered the wrong engine. Not in this messed up supply chain market! No way! So my finger were crossed for you, but deep in my brain, I knew this wasn't going to go well, especially with your rushed calendar schedule. And now, if you want compensation, your going to have to turn to legal help. It will get messy. But I think it's taught you another life lesson, which is, "If it seems like too geat a deal, it is, something is wrong". Everybody wants something for free, at a huge discount... Who can resist that? True, but this is a lesson to everyone. When something seems like a really good deal, like a car dealer offering a steep discount on a precious commodity... Get your ears pinned up and pay attention, youn are about to be scammed! Look closely at the details, and get EVERYTHING in writing and get prepare fo the worst. I hope you can figure it out quickly! Best of luck.

Some, not all, but some guys at dealerships (sales, I've worked in it) have the mentality that when they sell something (even using lies and hyperbole) they defeated the buyer. Their commission, to them, is "proof" they did everything "right"... If this is the case, the seller will start to blame you for buying it. If that happens see where the manager/owner stands and if they seem to be in step with their employee go HARD on all of them (record your conversations as well because media and youtube LOVE these kinds of stories w/ more than hearsay). edit: Don't be afraid of backlash or "banning" from other companies/people either. That will only come from Companies/people that think that sh*tty mentality is good business.

That's disheartening to be sold a bag of goods... so to speak. I don't think name dropping is a bad thing since they were outright lying to the buyer (you) just to move along f/a problem they created. Truck is still a BAD-ADD ride!!

Don’t change a thing. I keep coming back because I enjoy your content. Not because of one specific vehicle. Personally, I’m most interested in the Ferrari build, but really enjoyed the camping rig series and the model A and looking forward to the E36 progress, too. Keep doing what you want to do!

What I am most drawn to and inspired by is not a particular project of yours - it's the way you build these projects. No matter if its the Ford or the Ferrari, both are the perfect blend of creativity, lunacy and craftsmanship! (This is probably true for the vast majority of your viewers, btw, don't think otherwise). Whatever this new project you were talking about might be, I'm sure it will have great Style, too! You have my deepest respect and thank you for the awesome content! It's a joy to watch you work. Cheers, Matt

In the industry I'm in, people are also reluctant to shame bad business people/practices/techniques. And IMO it really should be done more often...as long as you can prove it. To save other people from being taken advantage of. Thus why I prefer to communicate by email and text and I keep copies of everything. Hope you get it sorted.

Have you guys run live data on the variable cam timing? Just to make sure ya know? Then lay your telemetries over the top of another engines telemetries that are perfect. This seems COMPLETELY timing related. Whether it's the phasers, vvt, ramping, i have no idea. Its just a thought. It really helps when chasing an issue like this to have another car around without issues. That way you can compare data and use process of elimination to zero in on the problem.

Glad some people understand that loving cars isn’t about some kind of scene loyalty where you can only appreciate one kind of vehicle. As long as your quality of content comes out I’ll be stoked regardless of the vehicle. Sucks about the engine. Glad you got the cams right. Is the assumption that it’s more cam related parts causing the minor timing problems? Wasn’t their a recall on cam phasers for F150s?

Maybe the prior "owner" swapped the pickup truck motor . Your Haltech is programmed for the Mustang firing order but the engine is the F150 firing order.

Stoked with content. Doesn't matter what it is or how little it is, you are churning out some epic projects and I'm just keen to follow along. Super disappointing about the engine, glad to hear you are on the way to rectifying it though. Guess we need a faux photo shoot deadline for the E36 aye? :D Keep up the good work!

Best builds on youtube ... Cant believe you don't have more subscribers. Only a matter of time! PS - I love seeing 2 builds at opposite ends of the process. It makes the content more interesting. I would keep going with that schedule. Watching builds this meticulous, it is sometimes refreshing to switch it up and watch the close to end product being refined

I know it might sound silly. But maybe you should try to flip tbe crankshaft 360 degrees. Make sno sense, but i had this once on an engine that threw a belt, it kinda ran but not really right. So i tried it and boom, ran perfectly fine after flipping it! Greetings from Switzerland
