Well, this pissed me off so much I actually made you a response video.In it I give you a link to the Ebay policy that protects the seller in cases like this. In it I point out that you ARE covered by "Ebay's Buying Practices Policy". Under THEIR heading on THEIR website: "Buying Behaviors We Don't Allow" go to "Misusing Returns" & it clearly says verbatim, the following IS NOT allowed: - "Not returning the item in the condition that it was sent to you (for example, returning a TV without the remote control)" THAT WOULD INCLUDE KEYBOARD WITH ALL KEYS PRIED OFF AND KEPT BY BUYER & UNIT CRACKED OPEN & PIECES INSIDE REMOVED. - "Returning an item that has been damaged after being delivered" - "Claiming an item isn't as described in the listing in order to circumvent a seller's return policy" In the 9 years of selling on Ebay, every SCAM negative I've had, I got removed, EVEN after Ebay agent told me "sorry nothing we can do" by having them LOOK AT THEIR POLICY.You freaking have to look up the policy for some of these phone agents! Show them the policy AND tell them you want to give them: 1) an unboxing video 2) photos of the damage 3) you will let them look at all your Ebay emails with the buyer.Then they always say: "let me transfer you to the TRUST & SAFETY department, they will enforce that policy, get the negative and DSRs removed. Then they do and you get it put right. Yeah, I know it feels like a waste of time Chad, but in this climate you got to cover your ass. A seller also has to remember sometimes life throws tragedy our way such as death or hospitalization....under that kind of stress, a seller can make honest mistakes & use up their allowed ratio of negs & bad DSR. You don't want that small ratio of Ebay allowed seller "screw ups" to be sucked up by a bogus negative like this! Fight the good fight Chad, it's only another 15 min-1 hour out of your life.Do it for us too so the f*%*cker can't scam the rest of us. Thank you!! :)

So here's a tip for all ebay (or other online sales) sellers… Document all of your incoming and out going shipments via VIDEO! I know it sounds like a pain and yes it's takes a few extra minutes but if you work video documentation into your work workflow (packing/shipping) you can stop these scams in their tracks… or at least win false claims/cases from scammer buyers. I'm in my 4th year as a full time ebay seller. In the first 6 months I learned ALL of the scammers tactics the hard way. It all boils down to "he said, she said" and without video, Ebay sides with buyers 99% of the time… Don't figure.. Sellers make all the money for Ebay but whatever. I have an external web cam attached to my overhead desk lamp and I use Quicktime to record EVERY package I ship. Most items I ship fit into a small Priority Mail box so can do 97% of my packing on my desktop. If it's a bigger item, I just use my smart phone instead. My process is simple. Show the item over all condition. Show that it's working/functioning as described in listing and then pack it up. This is all one continuous shot closing with a nice clear in focus close up of the buyer name/address and tracking number. I just save the video to an external HD where it stays for a month or two. When the false claims come in, I just upload the packing video to youtube, send a link the buyer and ebay. That's it… Case will usually go away within a day. Negative feedback gets removed (gotta call to make that happen) but this process has worked consistently for the past 3.5 years. I enjoy 100% positive feedback. I don't have to waste time going back and forth with buyers/ebay messages or hours on the phone with ebay. I just upload the video. Anyway, works for me :)

Just happened to me sold a brand new xbox one 2tb gears of war to a guy named howera5 on ebay. The guy claimed that the system didn't match description. He sent me a empty box back and got to keep all the money and the system. I have 260 positive feedback no issues. I have video footage of me opening the box on return shipping with the postman being empty. Ebay didn't want to hear anything I'm done with ebay smh.

This is yet another textbook example of why ebay needs to allow sellers to leave negative feedback for bad buyers. This guy will go on and on burning sellers until ebay finally gets wise and suspends him. Also, there is little chance of that negative being removed. Last year I sold a set of knobs for a Pioneer stereo receiver. The buyer negged me claiming he thought he was getting the entire receiver not just the knobs. Ebay looked at my photos/description (no receiver shown & sold in the parts category) but still upheld the bad feedback claiming that it was the buyer’s opinion. I spoke to a ebay CS manager and asked him if I purchased a steering wheel on eBay and didn’t receive the whole car that it went to can I leave negative feedback for the seller? The rep told me he would advise against it but I could in fact neg the seller. Incredible!

I just stumbled across this older video of yours Chad, I just had a very similar issue and eBay sided with the buyer. I sold a item and the item they returned was a completely used item not new like i shipped, called ebay and they kept transferring and finally i spoke to someone who literally told me they sided with the buyer because i haven't had any cases or issues and it was a decision made based on my perfect record, and pretty much based on sometimes scams happen and i needed to add it to the cost of doing business. I was shocked, But i did learn alot from speaking with the higher ups at eBay for multiple days so it was actually worth it because now i know exactly how to protect myself and what ebay actually looks at and for in cases. Thanks for replying Chad, Yea i was told by a eBay supervisor that the best way to protect yourself is use the photos in the listing for protection against tampered items, because they said they no longer accept outside photos for proof or evidence for your case, meaning they will only go by the photos in the listing and compare then to the photos you send in for your case. So i purchased this blue marker that you mark screws with and it rubs off if someone tampers with the screw with a tool/screwdriver. Its the same method a lot of electronic/tech companies use as well. Same as those stickers you are referring to but i decided to use the marker method because i didn't want to risk them somehow removing it and replaying it. But eBay made it super clear to me that whatever they see in photos the photos they will compare that wish the photos given and decide based off of that. But they also mentioned that things are about to get a lot better for us sellers in regards to returns and scams. They said the new update regarding free returns is all about protecting us sellers more by keeping all the data of buyers you often return items or open INAD cases. This supervisor specifically stated a zero tolerance will be infect when the new update is released, Not sure if i should take that with a grain of salt or what but i hope thats the case it would sure help us. By the way my name is Chad as well haha, i don't think we have formally been introduced. I am a huge fan ive been watching you for along time. I recently started my own channel and wow it is harder then i thought to get followers and subs/attention unless your a clothing seller teaching people how to make millions haha. Thanks bud

Well I would call them back for an explanation of why the requirement for the buyer to return the item in the same condition does not apply in this case and if it is not true at all, me and my fellow sellers would like to know. Is there a NEW TOS I missed? Oh, and please share the scammers id.

Ebay will tell you that there is no way they can tell if you didn't repack it and open it with a damaged one in there,. Ebay Sucks. Sellers always lose. If you have something broken and want a working one just buy it on ebay and swap it. It's terrible.

Ebay is a joke. Yes its the way to make money.but why don't sellers have any rights. They rip you off. then smear you name and walk away without a thought. Were is equality.you found the item,cleaned it photographed it.wrote a discription.paid fees.and waited for a buy,then label and ship. They click a button rip you off and get away with it. Ebay needs to change .this was total discrimination because your a seller.you deserve better

Hey golden finger picker, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I used to live in the states when I first learned about ebay, which was around 2004-2005. While the website sounded like an amazing place for deals, the first thing I heard about it was a horror story of a buyer receiving a box of rocks instead of the laptop that he paid god knows what for it. Then, I decided to try the website myself, and I bought an allegedly apple's headphones, which cost me $1 or so. I knew this couldn't be the original headphones, but I wanted to see how far can a seller lie or try to pretend he is selling the genuine ones. So I sent a message to that seller asking him why would the headphones cost so low when it's normally being sold at around $20 or so. Surprisingly, he replied with a short economic 101 answer lecturing me that Apple has a factory, employees, salaries, rents, and packaging to pay for, and he on the other hand has nothing costing him to charge so much for it. Of course when the headphones arrived it wasn't even worth the amount I paid for. I checked back his message, and I realized that he never said he sold genuine apple headphones. He just gave me a reason why Apple would charge more than he does! Smart? maybe, but it sure crapped all over ebay's image. After all these years, I thought maybe ebay has evolved to a mature website where both buyers and sellers are well protected and regulated to avoid scams and such. This time I'm interested in actually using ebay as a seller, but I'm also still worried about scams from buyers. That's why I'm here searching for sellers' stories about how they got scammed by buyers. What I don't understand is how can anyone feel safe selling his items on ebay when anyone can easily steal it by lying? Worse, buyers can even make me pay for them to receive the item they stole from right at their door step?? Once again, thank you for sharing your experience with us as it really helps us understand where we're going when using ebay. And I am terribly sorry for your loss, but I'm hoping you'd make up for it with a profit 100 times better than what you lost. Salah.

I have been scammed a few times and it seems no matter what you do to protect yourself Ebay will routinely side with the Buyer. It is clearly a matter of policy to do so. It is one of the many prices paid for using Ebay. It still makes me mad...

Been a top rated powerseller for many years, yes, this shit happens, tried arguing with ebay. Yes do call ebay , tell them you want them to remove negative feedback. Lately , I just tell problem buyers to please throw item away , I refunded you, forget about shipping it back. I have had these customers blocked right away, but still get messages from same guys asking me how to use item! Yes blocking them is not good enough, I have yelled at ebay because I WANT TO KNOW IF THEY HAVE BEEN BLOCKED BY OTHERS SELLERS! And if you only buy, it is impossible to have negative feedback. You cannot even leave neutral.

You can go ahead and block them and they can just simply use another account or use a guess account. I had the exact thing happen on a guest account after I blocked the first account. Ebay said tough.

Hey I feel bad for you Chad ! That's how I got my first and only (so far) negative feedback. I sold NIB garlic press and got return because there was a 0.05 something (mm or inch) gap when the buyer close the press. I never used garlic press when cooking, but my wife and other friends who used that device on daily basics says that it never close completely. Anyway I got that shipped back on my expenses, comes dirty and broken. I pictured and call EB. To my surprise they refund me all my money but unfortunately can't do anything to removed that negative feedback. It is what is it Chad, just keep moving forward. That's definitely the shit side of business on ebay. I have been hit a few times with things like this. The worst is when they just mail an empty box back to you. I really cant blame the sellers that have quit ebay.

Yea that happened to me when I sold a iphone5 on ebay I made the listing very clear the phone had a bad imei number it was black listed can not be connected to a carrier and so on. Well the lady bid on it 6 times within 1 hour of her receiving it she filed a return claim I don't remember what her claim was anymore I believe it was that she couldn't use it well you know what happened in paid to ship it to her and I was to pay for return shipping yea ebay helped themselves to the return shipping out of my bank account it cost more to return it than what I paid to ship it. I called my bank and reported a unauthorized withdraw from my bank account I got my money back for return shipping and ebay closed my account. I had a bad feeling the lady harvested parts out of the phone but had no proof. Later I opened a different ebay account just to shop from. Yesterday I had a man from another state want to buy a item I have from my Facebook post he wants me to except PayPal or a check in just can't do it there is no seller protection when it comes to being secure. I looked all over PayPal and the Internet to see if there is seller protection I could not find any. Also you may want to file a claim with PayPal instead of eBay you may have better protection.

Wow that is so aggravating but you're right about not letting it get you down or taking too much of your time. I just learned that recently it's not worth the headache or stress to keep fighting it even if your in the right. I hope that in the future law enforcement, small courts, and banks can organize to deal with these situations especially because e-commerce is the future for business and shopping.

ebay is making it almost impossible for the small seller of good used items, to make a profit. They have increased their seller fees again, have UNFAIR c;laims / return policy for buyers which allows MASSIVE BUYER FRAUD AND SCAMMING . Used items are the main target of these criminal buyers as they know ebay will always give a full refund on item and ship costs EVEN IF YOU LIST AS NO RETURNS SOLD AS IS ! Then ebay DOES NOT ALLOW you as a good seller to even GIVE ANY FEEDBACK TO STOP THE SCAMMERS Ebay MUST change it policies towards sellers which offer unique OOAK or used items or it will be nothing more than another online mega store with tons of offshore mass produced JUNK !

I completely understand your frustration. I had this happen to me once on Ebay with a guitar. Customer claimed it arrived damage. Claimed I did not package it well enough. This guitar was in a hard case meant for travel. My son in law took it with him around the world on military transport for years without a box and it survived, but my shipping it three states away in a box with a ton of bubble wrap did not hold up. They took it apart for parts I guess. Did not know guitar parts where such a hot commodity. Called Ebay and got the same results you did. I wanted to scream because I was selling this for my son in law. He was out over $400. I had to do as you are doing and move on. It still sucks.

this compares to a brick and mortar business with shoplifters. I always leave these guys a positive feedback. It starts out with SELLER BEWARE!!! I almost always look at feedback left for others when a guy makes an offer or starts asking questions. Just had a guy return a walkman saying it was not as described. Half of his feedbacks left for sellers read " had a problem with the item Seller was quick to respond with a refund" I wonder how often he gets to keep the item. He returned the walkman to me with no bubble wrap in a plastic bag envelope. It still worked perfectly. I was out the shipping both ways but ended up selling a month later without any problems. Remember to give that positive feedback ''SELLER BEWARE''

Your experience and the experience of others is why I never buy from private sellers unless it's a face-to-face transaction. I would guess that 1% of these types of videos is the fault of the seller, the other 99% are scams from the buyer. KZbin is full of buyer scams. People who are scammed should sue eBay and/or Paypal. These types of scams even occur in brick & mortar stores. People buy things, take out parts they want or need and return them as "parts missing". Avoid open or unsealed boxes unless you can do a parts inventory..

You can have videos, pictures, and evidence that the buyer swap, removed, or harvest your item and ebay will still side with the buyer. All they will say is " there is no telling who is telling the truth ". So the buyer wins 100% and you as the seller get a nasty defect strike on your performance. Since ebay introduced their new buyer protection program, they have encourage scammers and theft on a new level. We need to take ebay to a class lawsuit. Sorry for your lost. Hopefully it wasn't sold for a deal of a price.

I just had this happen too. Buyer waited 3 weeks before claiming the item was broken. Never even contacted me at all. Then waited two weeks to send it back. The return was broken, but it worked fine when I sent it. Sadly, there's just no way at all - I cannot think of any logical way to solve these issues. Everyone thinks they have some genius solution but it's not. Film you boxing the item? Well, you could be the scammer and film yourself boxing one item, but send a different / broken item. Copy the serial number? Well, you, as the seller, could have two items and send a broken one and claim the serial number was from the other item. There is no logical way around this issue. In my case, there were screws missing and broken and loose, but how can I prove they were not broken missing or loose when I sent it? Even if I have pics or video. The pics / vid could be old when the item was not broken, or could be from another item altogether. The only logical solution I can think of is if eBay was actually an intermediary and they examined each item themselves, but that's too convoluted and expensive. So, for the millionth time, THERE IS NO SOLUTION!

Two things: 1. I would call back. Every CS agent has their own opinion, and as stupid as it sounds, there seems to be NO standard way of handling things. You could call back, get a different agent, and get a totally different result, including the defect removed. But I also understand how you feel, by not wanting to get into it anymore. 2. I have that VIC car on your shelf. Picked it up at a yard sale, and have it in a storage unit, never have listed it. Hope to see what you get for yours.

i had a very similar story , it was something i sold for $270 , took me weeks to fight , paypal stepped up and gave me $175 back , i needed a notary public to sign it ... but yeah it was a hassle, to this day i remember the scammers name address by heart ...

I had a buyer who got into a car accident. Broke his taillight so he ordered a used one from me. As soon as he received mine, he said it arrived broken so I told him to return it for a refund. When it came back, sure enough it was broken however the reason it was broken was because he sent back the one he broke in the accident. How do I know? Because I mark all of my used items with invisible marker that appears only under a blacklight. There were no invisible marks on the one he returned so I complained to eBay about it and they asked how could they determine if I was lying or the buyer was lying so I told them I knew it wasn't mine because there were no marks. eBay's response was, how did they know whether or not I was lying about the marks? One more side note I would like to add. Did you know that while buyers can leave neutral or negative feedback, sellers can't?

Luckily I've headed off a few issues like this. I list everything on the high end with best offer. When I get an offer I check to see what feedback they have left for other people. I had 3 in the last 3 months that left nothing but bad feedback for sellers. I decline and immediately block them. It's about the only protection we have. Ebay will not back you on these scammers. All that about doing an investigation is just bullshit. You have no choice but to give them their money back. Something has to change.

I feel for you man. I have just recently been scammed in the similar way myself with a model bus that I sent to him in perfect condition. He claimed it was damaged in transit and that it arrived to him in pieces and claimed that I used one thin layer of bubblewrap. That was total bullshit because I always pack my items properly and I have NEVER had issues before in the last 11 years of using eBay here and there. I am not even a business seller, but eBay doesn't give a shit. Its like the seller is guilty until proven innocent and the buyer can rip off the seller AND leave them negative feedback. As well as steal their money back and keep the item. There is absolutely no protection for the seller from these wankers that abuse the buyer protection system and I just hope that this recent incident is just a one off. The thing is though is that the scammer's feedback is well over 2000 and has been a member since 2009. So I thought I was dealing with an upright honest buyer. How wrong was I?

This is why I am reluctant to sell items on eBay. eBay doesn't care whether you are a private seller or a seller in trade, they have systematically aided and abetted scammers do this to others.

I filed an issue with eBay some years ago and finally called them. A weary eBay employee said, the complaint process is jobbed out to the Philippines and they're just clicking through in favor of the buyer.

So sorry this happens to you and other sellers. I thinking of doing Ebay so I have been watching a lot of videos. The good and the bad. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm just curious and not sure if weight listed on his shipping details was taken into consideration or if the parts he took weighted enough to matter. I'm new so I don't totally understand how her person weights their items.

You are so right! They will not reverse an item not as described or even item as described. I had one recently give me a positive and then ding me on item as described, and then another for item not as described. July seems to the be the worse. I had not had a defect since last July.

Thanks for posting your story, people need to know about how they can get scammed on ebay. There is no way I am going to buy something as expensive as a cell phone on ebay and chance getting scammed.

This happened to me I sold a computer and the guy said it came smashed but I protected it very well with the bubble rap and foam etc... it doesn’t make sense that it came smashed and I had to refund him $270 it sucks

That's just wrong in so many ways! I had a very similar situation this past week with eBay customer service. I'm a top rated seller & have no problem issuing refunds ~ I offer a 30 day return policy for any reason. However, I expect the buyer to pay return shipping unless I have made an error or the item is damaged. I won't go into all the crazy details here, but the gist of it is that the buyer wanted to return a pair of pants because in their own words "These pants are quite uncomfortable, even though the correct size. Fabric stiff and heavy". They opened a case & marked the reason as being "item is defective or doesn't work", so I was expected to pay the shipping (I'm in the hassle free return program) & of course I will get a ding against be. After speaking with 3 eBay reps (one of whom was so rude I wrote a letter to corporate) the issue has still not been resolved & I have been told I need to wait until I receive the return before they can do anything about the shipping they have charged me for. Keep in mind the buyer has mailed the pants & there is a tracking number showing they have been mailed. I don't have an issue with refunding the purchase price of the pants, just don't feel I should have to pay the return shipping charges. As you said in the video, the issue is not the $, but the principle ... if anyone can just mark that they are returning an item because it is defective instead of the real reason (they don't like it, changed their mind, etc.), then that is not fair to sellers. Of course I'll continue to sell on eBay, but I do think they needs to work a little more on the seller protection end of things. OK .... back to listing & watching videos :) Namaste!

I've had some bad buyers before. It happens. I send everyone a return label. A lot of the time they don't return it. I am like if they really had an issue with it they would return it with the label i sent them. some people are just fishing for a refund. But I've had it were i bought items as well. Like I bought a bluetooth mouse from china. they told me i would have to ship it back when it didn't work. I asked about the return label and they were like you have to send it back at your cost and I was like not according to ebay rules. they offered to give me a discount and I was like why would i want to keep it with a discount when it doesn't work. I finally got my refund. I also bought an item that came damaged from another seller he tried to do the same thing making me pay for the return. well i had him pay for the return going by ebay rules. He was so unhappy that he blocked me as a buyer as I was planning on bidding on something else he had. Needless to say i didn't buy it. I bought a DJ laser light from the guy and it had glass lenses and somehow 2 of them were cracked in shipping. I could of taken it apart and replaced them as the company who made the light sells replacements on their web page for like 3 dollars each. so he ended up paying 26 dollars shipping to get it back when he could of just sent replacement parts to repair it. I am thinking he thought i was harvesting parts. I'm a seller as well so i wouldn't do that. Karma will bite you in the ass in time.

Before eBay's buyer protection program, myself (seller from USA) was going to be scammed by a buyer in Australia. Apparently the scam is common. Someone will buy your mint condition item, file a return as defective and send you back a poor condition one they previously had and send eBay pictures of their bad condition one and say that's what they got. Lucky for me, there was no protection at the time and I refused the return because what I sent was mint and they did not pay for insurance.

I feel for you ! Oh my! I got scammed from a buyer a couple years ago out of 863.00 the item was shipped to Germany and the buyer claimed they never received the item however the confirmation said it made it to Germany that is as far as the confirmation to other countries states. I didn't know that and since the confirmation does not allow you to see if it went to the address ( even though it did) eBay automatically took money from my pay pal and paid the buyer back. the next thing that sucked was that I had sold this item on consignment therefore I additionally had to pay the person who brought the item to me to sell their 80% an extra $690.00. That transaction cost me 1553.00 and shipping! since then I no longer sell stuff on consignment for anyone but my self. eBay always sides with the buyer. but if you require a restocking fee in your description if they request a refund and buyer pays return shipping it has helped deter scammers... You can always refund the restocking fee if you find the buyer is truthful and then they are happy and give you positive feed back.

my wife had a buyer that was supposed to come up and pick up a antique side table. it was over 6 months and almost going onto a year. my wife gave them some grief and told them they needed to get it. they made a case and tried to do us dirty. my wife returned some of the money but insisted we werent given it all back because we wete charging a storage fee. we kept about 300.00

I’ve had this same type of scam ... the buyer has your item lined up for sale buys it ... For some reason the item gets broken some how during shipping .. reason is his buyer probably backed out on the deal so he breaks the item and puts claim in and walks away ... Buyer holds no responsibility .. In your case he thought you would just say keep it because of shipping cost on you... common scam .. Surprised he didn’t just take a few parts that would not be missed or noticed ..

At least you got something back. I just had a scam buyer sent back an empty package and I'm expecting eBay to side with him and force a refund. Thankfully, I only lost $20 (spent only $1 on the item). But I'm still pretty upset about the defect it caused, GRRR...

That really sucks! You are a great guy, and operate with integrity. I understand returns, and being scammed are part of doing business. However, what I don't agree with is that eBay is turning the other cheek on good sellers. I feel if a seller is going to take a hit by a scammer, eBay should do everything in their power to help absorb the hit as well, and try to do whatever they can for the seller. They are loosing good sellers everyday I'm sure. By them not helping you as a seller, they are only hurting themselves. I am not bashing eBay, but it is too easy for them to just throw it on the seller. Keep being a great seller and person, and I believe things always work out for the guy with integrity. I hope you get over this situation well and learn from it. As a business you got to calculate your returns and rip offs. They happen just as if you have a brick and mortar shop you get thieves going in and steal your goods. Nothing you can do really. In my early stages of selling I went through these moments as well. Now selling on my webstore things still happen but at least I don't get penalised and downgraded by feedbacks. Once you sell on Amazon and you sell a lot through fba you will learn that return is as normal and usual as having your cup of tea or coffee. You have 0 control over it. You don't get asked if you accept the return or happy with the return reason it's just automatically returned and refunded. The buyer don't even have to give a reason just to make it simple. After some time I haven't even looked on what was reason for return or condition of returned item. It's not matter. You just want a constant loads of sales and returning happy buyers. That covers for the loss.

That's awful! This is why sellers have left Ebay. If this happens often then sellers should get together and complain. This sort of blatant rip off should not be tolerated. Sellers have rights too! Without sellers Ebay would have nothing for customers to buy. They better recognize.

Same thing just happened to me with a louis vuitton bag. Buyer claimed it was fake and wanted their money back but that they weren't gonna return it. Eventually they returned it with the lining and label ripped out. Ebay doesnt care about my complaint as Usual.

I know exactly what you mean by that “I just had a gut feeling about the buyer”! I called back on my case immediately because they were saying the same to me except my item was $530. I actually got the guy to admit in eBay emails he altered the “broken” item and the idiot even sent pictures.😂 He had a feedback of 54 at 100%. It truly all depends on who you talk to at ebay. Sad but true! Even if they rule in your favor, then there’s PayPal and after that credit card company. What I’ve learned is never sell anything over $100 or get insurance and even then it’s a hassle!

I recently did an as is listing on something and they left me a negative as well. They wanted a refund but I wouldn't budge. I just took the negative and kept the money. Really sucks you got screwed in this. Like others said, I'd call eBay back until I got a satisfactory answer.

You forgot the most important step of filming how you put it in the box until the step of the shot with shipping adres and postnumber sticker on the then closed box.Then you can show it as proof ((together with that return opening movie)that it was send in good order.Some other sellers seem to do it that way.

I was a buyer and had something similar happen to me. I had ordered some camera parts and a lightmeter from someone on ebay. Then the items arrived I saw the meter was cracked. I notified the seller, but said I was going to try to fix it, and I was still happy with the purchase. The seller DEMANDED THAT I RETURN EVERYTHING for a refund. I returned the items. Then the sorry bastard refused to refund me because the light meter was cracked and then gave ME negative feedback! This was the only time I ever got negative feedback.

This is why I think eBay should reinstate the ability for sellers to leave negative feedback. So we can warn the next seller about a buyer. What good is leaving a negative comment and leaving a positive feedback.

I've dealt with buyers like this before. As soon as you suspect they're less than honest with you CALL ebay (not email) and talk to a rep. They'll make a back end note about it. They've always taken my side, one time actually removing negative feedback from my profile (still 100%) because the guy was trying to strong-arm me into refunding him because of his own ignorance.

Sorry to hear that this kind of crap still goes on, I used to sell on ebay but no more, I have been scammed as a seller and buyer and yes it's a damned headache one which no one should have to put up with. Ebay needs to sort this out dude, it is your right. These scammers get away with too much and infact what has happened to the C64 is by no other definition "STEALING or THEFT" whether in part or whole. So for EBAY thanks for protecting the innocent, Soon your site will just be full of Scammers.

Every time these things happen if you don't like how eBay handles it file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. That's the only way we can get them to figure out a better way to do it.

You need to add some conditions for accepting returns and notify ebay as soon as the first negative email is received from the buyer. save all of the emails so eBay can go back and read the transmissions. But get a case # and file a complaint 1st.

I had a customer open a claim for a brand new $600 bike.. after sending pictures of him modifying it by his welds.. even said " i think i broke it. Its not rideable at this point anymore" a week after he sent me a message that said "just got the bike in perfect condition. Love it but going to modify it" left good feedback.. so i told ebay to look at the messages and he refused to return the bike with the return label i was forced by ebay to send him of the same weight and dimensions of what was sent.. he was telling ebay that the post office is charging 300 freaking dollars for a shipping label.. and i was like wtf is he returning.. and ebay said i needed to paypal him the overage for a postal label. Then they yanked the 600 dollars out of my account and let him keep the bike. Ebays great for small things, but big high priced items go on Amazon. They let the sellers decide if they want to accept the return or not after establishing a good reputation. Just be careful ya'll. Greed has taken control of minds.

+thomas t This is the type of case where a seller appeals and is often refunded by eBay. While the refund doesn't come from the scammer, the decision can be reversed. In this case, it hurts eBay, which is making HUGE amounts of money off everyone (15% off the top of every sale just for starters) and they're still doing very well.

I know this is an older video but I totally feel your pain I sold a chiropractic ultrasound machine like in 2013 to a scammer who basically did the same thing and eBay did the same thing seems they need to step up the seller protection a lot more still as I hear these stories all the time

This is why I sell on more than one platform. I can't afford to completely support an institution that allows for outright theft. I work for me and not other people. Ebay is starting to realize this, but we are still in a system that gives better treatment to thieves and not hard working people. You would think with all the technology that we have to prove the truth with and that Ebay is a technological thing that they would let technology help them more with people they only deal with electronically. This is probably one of their biggest flaws in their business models and that they are trying to mimic Amazon who also thinks that customers never lie, cheat, steal, harvest, or mislead.

This just happened to me. Ebay SUX they side with the buyer. I listed an item for parts, not working. EBAY just side with scammer buyers.The seller then broke the item and claimed it was not packed correctly and the item listed parts only not working was more broken than the "buyers expectations". I now dont sell any items on EBAY and use the free GUMTREE service. EBAY SUX man. EBAY Policy even allow them to plaster negative feedback even when you return the money and get harvested or receive your good back destroyed.
