korea definitely has a racism problem, just like every country in the world. in aisa the darker you are the uglier you are, hence the skin whitening market over their. again china is its own kind of fucked up and definitely have a racisim problem unique of their own(again like every country) and definitely has a very aggressive pov compared to korea but we should always avoid putting racism on a spectrum in genral, because any kind of racisim is inhumane

All the more reason to make sure you get a 2-channel dash cam - one that records video from the front and rear. In this case this scammer could have been recorded from the back trying to run you off the road. Not sure if the Chinese gov't would take that into consideration though.

Great story. I hired a motorcycle in Bejiing back in 2001. I drove it to the bird and flower markets with my girlfried on the back. We negotiated the back streets rather than go via the main roads as a local English lady who lived there said avoid the main roads as the police are constantly making enquiries to Western looking drivers. We travelled by motor cycle for 2 days with no problems whatsover, but we heard that the hotel where we hired the bike from was well connected to the authorities and their customers would not get any hassle as they were good for the economy. These days, I wouldn't bother hiring a car or bike as you say it's too much hassle. It is a shame that this approach is taken towards some Western visitors. Indeed it will stop many people visiting which would be a sad as China is an amazing place with incredible people.

+Trec93 It seems like a money making scheme that's all too common with governments all over the world. I am sure that making cash from the fines had more to do with passing the law than anything else.
@larkhill2119
@larkhill2119 8 жыл бұрын
+thedude1671 Ten years ago you could buy a driving licence in China easy. I have a friend that passed the test 4 years ago and she cannot drive at all. Have no idea how many people died in China due to road accidents, along with basic safety built in to modern cars and simple things like no seat belts. I drive fast and and only had a few less than 4 speeding fines. I look at it as take 1000 other offences into account for each one. I guess lack of attention may have something to do with people being fined all the time.
@rjlee3112
@rjlee3112 8 жыл бұрын
+Trec93 Well, the government is pretty detached from what the common folks life is like. The law sounds relatively fine in theory, but of course the real life is different and people will exploit everything if they can. Not necessarily a Chinese only issue. People need money and will try to make a buck however they can. Thats capitalism for you.
@Trec-u

@mattizie91
@mattizie91 6 жыл бұрын
Old junker is a prime target here. It's why everyone tries to buy the most expensive car they can. The law in China is retarded in this regard, because the responsibility is shared between the cars, so if a car goes into your lane and scratches your car, the judge will say something like 90% his fault, 10% your fault. Your car costs 10k RMB to fix, and his cost 190k. You pay 10% = 20k, and he pays 180k. But because he has better insurance, you end up paying more because of the excess.

Beaters rule! For years I drove a Datsun with a passenger door peeled by a sideswipe on the driver's side.You could see the window ratchet. I called it Clockwork Orange. Californians are notorious for getting in the way of a freeway onramp. I would blithely pull out slapping my door and pointing at the wreckage. I apparently had nothing to lose. They couldn't slow down fast enough. However I once had a blue nosed neighbor leave a note on my windshield telling me to get my ugly car off his street. Then I parked by a concrete ramp that went nowhere. Just an empty field. Left over from some teardown or something. If someone had pulled into it they would probably have been arrested. The cops came out, cited me for obstructing a driveway (no road to the ramp) and TOWED MY CAR. I called the cops to report it stolen and they told me to check the impound lot.You can't win really. At least when it gets bashed it isn't distressing. I know a guy who got his car thrashed often. He collected more on it than he paid for it.. He even bought it back from the junkyard after the insurance paid off.

Down nanjing road a couple asked me again the same to help them to take picture then asked if I want their help. I realize this a scam or way the be friendly and after invite you to go someplace with them and cheat you. Other one was in Nanjing City a boy came from nowhere with some papers and spoke that have a job opportunity, english teacher, and I just need to follow him to the office, I realize again is other scam, you follow him and do whatever they want, ask money, passport etc.

Exactly last year I helped a foreign couple to take them a pic just in front of the Starbucks near The Summer Palace. I didn't see what is wrong with this. In US and Canada if someone drives30 miless per hour on 60 miles per hour freeway and caused others to change lane dangerously, the one who drives slow will get a ticket. I was about to retire, so I talked over with my chinese friends here about moving to China. With my pension I should be comfortable there. The first thing they told me I will be scammed. The scam range from rent, driving,(just like one you told), and just about anything from daily activities. I am not going to China. Thanks for you video, it confirmed everything my friends told me. I lived in SKorea for three years and experienced nothing like what you have described in your videos. The driving is crowded but predictable and if someone offers help, they are actually offering help. Of course, I could read, write, speak the language, which is far easier than Mandarin or Cantonese, so I was always aware of where I was and what was going on around me. The Koreans loved to bargain, too. Whenever I shopped, I would hold back and listen to the Korean-to-Korean prices then, make my purchasing move. Of course, the Korean merchant would quote a foreigner price to me. When I queried in Korean why my price was so much higher than the Korean before me, they never got angry at being tripped up. The merchants always laughed and gave me good prices which I rewarded by becoming a regular customer and bringing other Americans to their businesses. I have visited China but with guided tour groups...much more predictable if not as exciting. Love your videos which are full of information. They are travelogues!

This is outrageous. Another outcome of perverse incentives! Sounds like you need your own dash cam. I suppose it's not as perverse as the life-time-care lawsuits if you injure or supposedly injure someone. Like the boy who tried to save his friend from drowning but failed, and got sued for it. Or the cars and trucks rolling over pedestrians several times to make sure they're dead so that they're not sued.

When somebody is driving aggressively around you, you don't PASS them! You let them go away. If they are driving as aggressively as you say, they'll be gone in no time. Passing anybody in the emergency lane is an aggressive move and passing an aggressive driver in the emergency lane is even more dangerous. Being baited doesn't make what you did right.

Use IR Lights to block out the license plate number from cameras.Just keep the cameras pinhole size and make sure every angle is covered.You can do the same thing with a cap and a nine volt battery so they don't recognize who you are and a switch to turn it off so police can't use an IR detector to find out if your using them and once they pass turn it back on.There are lights that block what you want from cameras, but are invisible to the naked eye and you don't have to worry about blinding anyone because they don't even know you have them.

I've watched some of your older videos, and I've seen your enthusiasm and thrill in the beginning. Now, I can't comprehend how you still live there. Actually you can talk to the police at the station and they might cancel your ticket. I had two tickets cancelled before just by talking to them. If you dispute it the police might get angry and screw you up even if you are in the right to do so which they can. However if you talk to them and say some nice things to them they might just let it go. That is how things work in China

in Russia, many many people use dash cams because organized crime found a great loophole / scam to run on auto insurance. it works pretty well as a defense against scammers, but I think it speaks to the failure of the govt that average people have to take counter measures like dash cams to protect themselves. groups have occasionally tried this scam in the US, but it doesn't really fly over here...

I work in an area with a lot of people from China and had never had any problems with them. Sometimes the work I do requires I block off an area due to hazards. Recently, there has been an influx of young adults from China, and I've had to stop a number of them from going through my taped off work area. I couldn't understand why they would even want to go through the area when there were other, shorter, faster, safer ways around. I thought they were kind of off their rocker to tell you the truth. But it's starting to make sense now!

I've been here nearly 8 years and love it. What most of the be-moaners on ere don't seem to realise is that this is not their country, their nations rules don't apply here. Yes there are man things about China I don't like but there are many more things about China I love. The people, from all walks of life and social circles, have never been anything but friendly and polite. They are always happy to help. Yes there is a pollution problem in the big cities but with so many people in such a small area what more can you expect? I have lived all over China and have had a great time and made many great Chinese friends everywhere I have gone. If you want a peaceful (and by that I mean non-violent not quiet) place to live come to China. Leave our Western theories about how a society should behave at home and just relax into the society here.

Driving in China is nuts. A few years back I took Taxi from Guangzhou to Dongguan involving major motorways, I felt like my life was going to end at any minute, everyone drives like they learnt how to on Need For Speed video games. Huge trucks overloaded taking up whatever lanes they wanted including the emergency lane, 100kph then a bump in the road like a huge speed bump forcing people to slow. They didn't seem to have any road rules they don't know how to properly build roads and vehicles are held together with gaffertape and string.

Yes, Chinese people have a great business sense; I´ve learned during my visits (long ago) that giving way or stepping back in traffic is kind of "losing face" so they try to avoid it. I had very interesting times in Shanghai, being picked up by a company driver and watching how he made his way through roads and highways. It was a kind of roller-coaster ride combined with near death experience and, believe me, I´m not an anxious person.

I should also preface that this is common in most APAC cultures with some exceptions. China is just one of the worst and again it speaks of the culture in a very negative way. I will also admit and concede that scams are everywhere, but they generally aren't considered acceptable within the culture.

I know nothing of Chinese law or procedure but, if this were in the UK, you could try refusing to pay the fine IF that means that the case goes to court and the police have to prove their case. Then they probably would have to call the guy who took the webcam. He/she might not want to show their face in court, or maybe the police can't be bothered to prosecute. In the UK, challenging parking fines this way often results in a no-show by the prosecution - they just don't want to spend the time and resources. And, if it does go to court, the scammer turns up, video them...shame them.

I WOULD NOT CALL IT A SCAM. In any case, the bad driver of the Buick would not have hit your car or so. He was only intimidating other drivers, who can be intimidated. In my opinion, this is the very good law. This will stop bad drivers breaking the laws. Moreover, there should be another law against the drivers that park their cars wrongly. Sometimes, they park out of their parking spot. These sort of the laws will worry only the bad drivers who do not mind breaking the laws and finally breaking the laws become their habit.
