I've had scammers rage while I redeemed gift cards in the past, but never while on a video chat. Now we can see the look of terror on their faces while we redeem. About 10 years ago this woman at my work came to my desk in secret with 5 $100 target gift cards, and said she needed to redeem them to “Agent Walker from the FBI” or get arrested within hours. I had the good fortune of stringing along a scammer a couple of years ago. He/they approached me by email. Supposedly a family friend was robbed in Spain of everything and needed money to get back to the US. Turned out our friend's email account was broken into and it was used to try to scam her contacts. I communicated with the scammer a few times pretending to believe their BS story. When I grew tired of it, I asked the scammer: Just to be sure, before I send money, what is my favorite soccer team? Never got a reply back. ( I don't have a favorite soccer team. ) These days people can use AI to imitate someone's voice to try to trick you. My wife and I agreed to a secret word. If either of us requests urgent financial assistance by phone, the other person will request the secret word.
