I don't answer my phone if the caller isn't in my address book and I'm not expecting a callback. Especially if it's not the normal phone calling hours. Also don't give out any personal information, even your name because most of the callers have no idea who they're calling or where they are calling. If they tell you you owe money or have won a prize tell them to send the information to you via the address on file and hang up. Don't confirm your address or phone number. If they're legit they would already have that info on file 😊

The best thing I did on the homestead was raising sheep.i use a hot wire to keep them where I want them. I even let them mow our 3 acre yard around the house. My big mistake was fencing. I used a lot of 4 foot tall welded wire for several thousand feet. For a buck a foot more I could have used something a cow couldn't destroy. Also run water lines everywhere so you don't need to haul water and break ice. Happy New Year to everybody.

Yeah - I've been reporting a Mrs. [name of the month] that made tons of people thousands of dollars every month. They are usually on Christian channels - so I'm sure they will infiltrate onto Sarah and Kevin's channel eventually, if they haven't already - since they always praise God for their good fortunate. Sometimes the story is from a former homeless person - where Jesus introduced them to this Mrs. so-and-so. It is always followed by tons of the same questions like: how do I get to meet this Mrs. so and so - or, yes - I just made tens of dollars using Mrs so-and so.

Great idea that I will try. The butchers around here quoted me $18.00 a pound for fat that I would render myself. Won't pay such a ridiculous price. Have you ever considered getting a couple of sheep to help with the mowing? Or perhaps goats. I don’t know if sheep or goats can be put with chickens but they can be moved from area to area to get the mowing done and with sheep you could butcher one a year for lamb chops (yummy) or leg of lamb. Thank you for all you do for us amateurs and newbies, I have learned so much from you both and appreciate your subtle witness of your love for our Lord. God bless your family.

a thought for the summer is to fence the ends of the long driveway for the cow to eat along the drive to save on mowing it. also is to have a mower with a catcher on it to only mow a small section each day to use as food for the animals, like the driveway would be to only travel on one side down and back for a load and next day the other side. can place the clippings into the mott as a pile for the chickens to scratch as a compost pile.

Funny story about chickens (Silkies in particular). My daughter called me in hysterics one day, hardly able to breathe she was laughing so hard. She owned Silkies and Brahamas and was confident that the little Silkie rooster would be unable to breed the big Brahma hens. Until one day she stepped out her side door and saw her Silky Rooster stalking a trio of big hens. as soon as he saw them wander near a cement block. He ran over to that block and jumped on it and then from there to the nearest hen. She thought this was a fluke until she saw him do it again. Moral of the story...don't depend on size to keep your breeds pure. :D

Good video! Planning infrastructure is of huge importance. I would suggest growing some things in pots for a year if you’re new to gardening. Our farm has huge old shade trees and that makes it a challenge to find garden and raised bed space that has full sun. It really makes a difference for tomatoes. Some crops do fine with partial sun. So consider this factor when considering where you’re planting different vegetables and where you’re placing your beds.

I enjoy your channel. It's so unfortunate regarding the scammers. It happens on FB also. I just had a generic named person claim his farm was 200 miles from me (he claimed another state about 200 miles from another person). He wanted Venmo/Ca$hApp, which I said no. They he agreed to PayPal to his "son" of a different name as long as it was Friends & Family, which I won't do because I don't know him. Finally, I said I'd just come pick up the chickens -- he disappeared. It's nice that you bring up keeping things easy and practical with the farm. This goes for any size (I have a small suburban yard), especially the mowing! My tiny flock is "clearing the land" for me so that next summer I can do some landscaping. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

I was wondering about maintaining the chicken mote. I like the idea and I am in an area with a large deer population. So I did 2 things. I have corner gates on the outside, swinging on the long run and hooks on the corner post (both sides of the corners), so it is a straight run down the mote; and rounded corners on the inside (using 2 large posts and a light gate, set at a 45 degree angle), to allow my Zero Turn mower in and able to make the corners. At opposite corners I have a larger gate and corner gate to allow my tractor access. I used railroad ties for the hinged side of these gates. I also use a lawn sweeper to collect the dried grass and chicken poop for composting. I thought it was just because of my MS that I have to over plan, but maybe it is not a bad thing. Thank you for all of the information you guys give us. Without seeing how you do, we would not be able to apply this information to our situations.
