Since you're from Nigeria can I ask personally how is it there? I know I can't understand the daily struggles but the idea of 2 million people and a majority of them without jobs sounds horrendous. I wanted to ask if there's a way for people to make money outside of scamming or should other countries try to make factories there to provide jobs. And if so how so it doesn't displace or become a 2nd colonization. I'm just genuinely curious because after so much displacement and what was done I'm not sure how other countries can help to fix it without causing harm or more backlash.
@benogidan Жыл бұрын
@@BlueKinTsukiko so the projected unemployment rate in Nigeria for 2023 is about 37% and some sources have estimated this to be more. For me to try and comment on each of the problems of my country would be a great dis-service because there are so many of them. I would say one of the biggest is the political class and corruption, it is very hard to have wealth distributed to the masses when the people that are voted in and responsible for the flow of wealth implement policies which are only designed to keep them in power for as long as possible.
@Herr_Damit Жыл бұрын
@@benogidan 37% is crazy. It's so hard to come up with a good solution apart from "more checks and balances". I really feel for the African people, it's an upward struggle all the time. I appreciate your compassion for the lack of opportunities that attract scammers, but I can't say I share it. What has become clear to me over my 60+ years is that scamming - like shoplifting rings, porch pirates, and other forms of theft - is a profession to them. They're bright, able people without a conscience, and robbing people is their **career**: they devote time, ingenuity, and planning to it. They use sales techniques, intimidation techniques, psychological techniques; they stay up to date on technological and financial changes (crypto and NFTs: I will never get over that these are actual business ventures); they are flexible and innovative and completely parasitic.

I think it is worth remembering that we are all a product of our environments. People in poor places where crime is common are not going to see crime as some unforgivable sin, but rather as a way to make ends meet. Everyone they know does it, so why shouldn't they? I look at a scammer from a third world country or some sort of poor neighborhood considerably nicer than I do one in a rich neighborhood. They are still criminals, but for where they live, it is basically like doing weed. Sure, it is illegal, but it is the kind of illegality the people around them pretty much accept as a part of life.

The reason this has grown to such a staggering degree has many aspects, but Tech Corporations are not interested in producing safer ways for the customers because it's a big cost to them, besides it creates more businesses in security, so in their head they are doing a good thing by doing nothing. The more you allow such behavior to grow, like a disease it continues to spread, morality slides into no man's land, and you have a free for all. They tried with me on your Chanel and also Living Tradition Homestead. Tried to report this but couldn't get anywhere 😫

Nice Stardew reference. You should totally work with Jim Browning for getting these guys' real names.

I appreciate that you took the time and trouble to track down the scammer and talk to him, although you were a lot nicer and more compassionate than I would have been I’m afraid. Maybe hearing your Senegal story will help me with that. I received one of his messages on your channel and I have received others on other channels. I don’t hold much hope that these scammers will be deterred since the underlying cause (as you covered) isn’t likely to change any time soon. But you made a valiant effort!

The reason there is soo many scammers in poor contries is that regular/simple jobs pay starvation wages less then 1,15$ per hour of labor, if the scammer gets someone from Usa he can make the equivalent of 70 hours of labor in a few minutes.

Watching your videos, reminds me so much of myself, but even more so, who I hope to be one day. I appreciate your thoughts and your embrace of the grey areas of life

I get your compassion for these people. It's good to have that compassion from a place of safety. When I think of the scams that happen in America, and the scams that happen overseas it's rarely the safe and comfortable who end up being the rube.
