"Olivia Pope for all her talk of White Hats and doing good, she just- gets whatever she wants! And sometimes you're just collateral damage." And that's exactly how the series ends. Olivia and company all get off scott-free. While Rosen, the last truly good character in the show, gets killed and Jake, the only character who admits he's a bad person, is the one who goes to jail for all of them. And it's all treated like a happy ending. What kind of message of a "white hat" is that?
@bb11111166 жыл бұрын
Edward Gil; I stopped watching Scandal when it got so absurd where the good guys are torturers and where Olivia becomes the regular mistress of the President. Unlike what the video says, I didn’t want Olivia and her crew to keep getting worse in doing bad.
@ayanomar14082 жыл бұрын
lowkeye that is how it ends in the real world tho, the reall bad people who think they are the “good ones making hard choices” get to walk away scot free and maybe one person goes down for it

@@bb1111116I get everything you're saying minus, Olivia and Fitz at a real relationship. I'm biased as hell, but him and Mellie hadn't had a happy marriage in years, she was a rare exception I can get behind. They fall in love without meaning to and Fitz was faithful for years while Mellie didn't even let him touch her and didn't tell him the reason why for years.
@delalunede Жыл бұрын
@@ashtonbrown8549its still cheating and Fitz treat Mellie terribly. Cheating point is now so light as the series manage to make it look unproblematic and mellie being okay with it. But everytime mellie don’t want to protect them or get back at them because she has to protect her position and her “husband” position if Fitz gonna leave her, they act like mellie is the bad person when the problem really come from them.
@ashtonbrown8549 Жыл бұрын
@@delalunede No I get what your saying, like I said I'm baised as hell because I love Oliva and Fitz's relationship. That being said he could be really mean to Mellie sometimes. I just go back and forth on Mellie, sometimes I feel for her other times I really hate her. She definitely should have told Fitz why she didn't really want to sleep with him, because 10 years without is a long time. Not saying its right, but it kind of makes sense he drifted from his vows.

@arelis45534 жыл бұрын
I am so surprised there are no more videos from scandal! Please do a series on the women of scandal and their journeys. In my eyes Mellie went from sideline character to one of my favorite character in the show!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤
@Paul940966 жыл бұрын
Yasssss, thank you screen prism!!! Since episode 1 Scandal has been one of my favorite tv shows of ALL TIME. Everything from the OUT OF THIS WORLD performances (stand outs include Olivia, Mellie, Cyrus, Papa Pope, Sally Langston & Huck), to the Shakespearean dialogue (Mellie and Sally Langston had some of the greatest monologues in tv history imo), to the over the top plot, the gorgeous costume design, the stunning production design, the beautiful men (Fitz is just everything) etc really went into making this a prime time drama like no other, What a phenomenal show. And as a writer myself, every single episode was such a treat because every line of dialogue was dripping with the drama and metaphorical symbolism of Shakespearean script. I also LOVED the depth of the show using the ripped form the headlines storytelling technique to comment on our society today while challenging our ideals of what a hero looks and acts like especially in their darkest moments, how we as the audience respond to it and as such what that says about us as a socity and how far we're willing to go for those we love. Any show that plays in the grey area for me is an automatic win. Its why shows like Breaking Bad and Game of thrones works so well. The lines between good and bad blurred so closely, it forces you as the audience to reevaluate your definition of good vs bad. who does wear the white hat? So to conclude, fucking fantastic show. If you've never seen it and are into fast paced, stylistic political dramas then look no further than this master piece. Great analysis ladies!!! Also, the fact that it was the first tv show to star and black woman in 40 years alone was an accomplishment in and of itself.

I miss watching *SCANDAL* each week. Strangely, one of my favorite things was watching the show while tweeting with people from all corners of the political divide. There were racist jerks with the Mango Menace's face all over their profile pictures, tree-hugging liberals who cry over every word you say because "it's not appropriate now!" and everyone in between. Folks who spent all day being horrible to each other because they disagree politically, but when *Scandal* came on, we would all be together talking about it and praising Shonda Rhimes and Kerry Washington.

i find it interesting that this video didn't at all touch on abby whelan ... i feel like abby was the only gladiator in the early seasons who had a moral compass and she was the only person who would call olivia out for her shit, and unlike liv, she sacrificed her personal life and benefits for others. she had been single for years after she divorced her abusive husband of four years, chip putney, and she had serious trust issues and ptsd relating to being in a relationship because of chip abusing her. but she gave up the first healthy relationship she had known since her college years, or maybe ever, w david in order to protect her friends. and again in season 6, she was being blackmailed and threatened with false charges of colluding with north korea and other crimes by peus and ponytail bitch, but she literally said she didn't care because she was willing to risk her own life and safety to get cyrus out of prison for a crime she knows he didn't commit. and the only reason she gives up on trying to break off her connection with peus and ponytail bitch is because they physically attacked leo bergen. so even then she gave it up in order to protect someone, not because she wanted personal gain or anything like that. the only time i could see abby playing into that personal benefit > morals thing is in 407 when olivia offers to take abby's story of abuse public to destroy chip's career and abby turns her down because she doesn't want to just be another monica lewinsky type whose entire life gets tacked onto one bad thing that happened to her, which i think is fair. but even then, the reason she doesn't want to be one of those women is because she's seen it and she knows that ultimately that those campaigns of activism are ineffective.

One thing that this show get wrong is that, in order for a woman be assertive she has to act like a man, this is a lie, men are assertive in their way, women are assertive being feminine, calm but at the same time not letinng people taking advantage of us.

I don’t understand how this show stands, it’s all drama no substance. Everything is such a hot mess
@Paul940966 жыл бұрын
Then it must have been too sophisticated for you. I get not liking t, or having issues with it, sure, but no substance????? You must not have seen more than few episodes. the dialogue alone is dripping with a Shakespearean richness only prestige dramas and Aaron sorkin scripts have achieved. Excellent show imo.
@ventusxzephyr136 жыл бұрын
It more than likely was, I did binge through 6 seasons however. The writing for certain parts was amazing, the only parts I did not like was when Olivia was with president Grant. He was just so annoying, and okay he and Olivia could've had a relationship. But it go so childish and ridiculous with how possessive he was. The actor did his job well.

Second or third season, because everyone was talking about the show, I watched a few episodes, but had to stop because the show was so evil. It never occurred to me Pope was ever seen as a white hat! I applaud the success of Shonda Rhimes and the cast, but I just can’t invite that kind of storytelling into my life on a regular basis. On some level it seems weird and sad to me that anyone does.
