Thanks for good and nuanced description of Scandinavian Lutheranism that even a scandinavian learned something from. I often hear American Lutherans talk about scandinavian lutheranism and then go on to talk about swedish lutheranism as if scandinavian lutheranism developed the same way in Denmark and Norway.

Christ is risen! I really liked this video. Could you Pastor Sullivan or someone here recommend some documentary or something similar about the Lutheran Reformation in Sweden, Denmark or Norway? Thank you very much.

Hello ATP, The Lutheran Churches in Scandinavia have gone through some cultural changes, as I am sure you do not need to be told by me, can they still be considered traditional trinitarian or even Christian? I hesitate to question one's own sense of Christianity, but for instance some Church of Sweden clergy have given very open-ended explanations of their own faith in god and I feel that might extend to the deity of Christ... Have they gone the way of unitarianism or universalism?, but still hold onto their historical professions of faith for sake of tradition?

I know some clergy in the state churches of Denmark and Norway who are quite conservative, but sadly, they are both extremely low church and a dying minority within the state churches. Overall there is no future I can see for the state churches in Scandinavia given that the liberals and outright apostates are now the vast majority of the bishops there. What is worse, usually the only conservative alternative is the pietists, with the only exception I know of is the mission province in Sweden.

I prefer schnitzel and sauerkraut to lutefisk, but its all a matter of taste. 😁

I would drop both the Schntizel and lutefisk for a weisswurst in the morning.

Yup. I believe that's what's recommended in the Book of Concord!

Scandinavian lutherism is dead. I grew up Lutheran in Denmark but converted to Catholic.

Not dead, but severely wounded. There are conservative high church and low church movements that still carry true Lutheran tradition. A large chunk of my church (Sweden) is very liberal or have reformed influences that changes the view on the sacraments for example. One of the ways to change the church like this have been the way to elect the govering bodies in the church.
